Great idea with the stretch wrap if you are building the boxes yourself. I'm out of luck though, I bought a dozen small ready made wooden boxes to store CATAN game & expansion pieces in. I'm going to have to try something else for the felt I think. Thanks for the tip which I will use on my next building project.
I’ve gotten a few good tips and ideas from watching your videos , I know this is an old one but hopefully you see this comment - thanks and keep them coming. I’m in the process of buying a sliding table saw Felder and Martin are the contenders Felder 940 or Martin c60 . If you have any experience with either of them or maybe let me know which might be the better of the two in your opinion. Thanks again
Hi David. Before I purchased the Martin T60C, I had a Felder CF741SP. The XRoll sliding table on the Felder is very smooth and IMO, second to none. It is easier to push than the Martin but it is lighter and doesn't have the felt pad to wipe the ways. I looked at the Felder 900 and Kappa series before purchasing the Martin and the thing that swung me Martin's way was the handwheel control rip fence and the overhead/computer controls. If dado capability is important to you, the Felder may be a better choice. If you do a lot of panel cutting, the Felder control location is awkward unless you opt for the remote controls at the end of the sliding table. I would suggest looking at the series I did on sliding table purchasing considerations if you haven't done so already. Steve
I will be applying felt to wood lamp bases and I'm wondering if the felt's self adhesion will be strong enough long term for such a project? Have you ever added glue as well or do you think the self adhesive is adequate alone?
Hi William. Prefinishing does make the glue come off more easily but more importantly, it keeps it out of the pores. A quick cleanup application of more finish and you can't see evidence there was any squeeze out. Steve
Hi, I hope you could help with some tips. I have watched several of your Y.T. Videos & found them very helpful. However I am at a standstill with this problem: I want to attach "FELT" material to a flat piece of plywood. I want the "POOL TABLE" top type of look/effect. Do you have some tips you could offer as to the best way to attach the felt to the plywood? I already bought the "Black Felt Material" weeks ago. It doesn't have any type of adhesive backing or anything, just regular felt material. I assumed some type of glue would work best? The surface is going to be 1/2 of a "DRONE FIELD TAKEOFF" station I am building. Each 1/2 is 24' x 30". With the take-off section a smooth/slick painted surface, and the other 1/2 the felt section, to be used for parts,batteries,etc... I thought of using 1.5" x 1/2" size for the trim, that would make each side a very shallow box I guess? Thanks! LEBIII
Lee Barret Hi Lee. It sounds like a contact adhesive such as 3M Super 77 might be in order. I have used this before and it is a good adhesive. If the felt is fairly stiff, I think this would work fairly well. If your felt is more like cloth, I think it will work but you will need to take much more care as contact adhesive is stuck as soon as it makes contact and the material flexibility is not working in your favor. I used this method to line the bottom of a jewelry box with velour fabric but really wasn't totally satisfied with the results. You may want to look for some video tips on installing pool table felt for some other ideas. Hope this helps. Steve
I agree. Most fabrics stretch, which is part of the problem. If you could stretch it evenly and I think that is possible by using one of the cutting mats with grid lines, I won't go into details. I have found the materials with a backing ,adhesive or not, work better. Yes, I have used the 3m adhesive as well as contact cement(not advised) and fabric with peel off backing (the easiest) The plastic covering is a great idea.
I dont think it was very good .What types of felts are there and what glue do you use ? None of this was addressed .Not much information at all really.
I mentioned several times in the video that adhesive felt was used. I just didn't see any value to showing me pulling the adhesive backing off the felt and sticking it to plywood.
