Matteo, I appreciate your realistic outlook on the new camera. I look forward to see your comparison between this new cam and the Ursa 12k. I really love the 12k and hope that this new full frame 6k has some of that same magic.
You hit all points I’ve been making. I’m a working professional doing actual work and most of the critiques I hear are confusing. Just get what works for your workflow.
My biggest concern right now is that there is no clean 16:9 HDMI out only the incredible cropped HD version. This makes it very impractical to use for live streaming
Grande Matteo sempre un bel salotto e sempre un piacere ragionare con te invece di sentire sempre le solite sparate da RU-vidr / Respekt da un italiano a Berlino 👊
I might be weird, but what I care about by FAR the most in a camera is color science. I own a BMPCC4K - is the BMCC6K sensor an improvement over that in terms of color? I couldn’t care less about internal NDs or body shape.
I totally agree. I too own the Komodo which I love. However, for me to even start shooting with it, I must first. 1- Start the Komodo, that can take up to :45s 2- I have to black shade another 2 to 3 mnts With the BM or the Panasonics it's whole deferent ball game. In the end, I think it all comes down to the quality of the image and the ease of use.... PERIOD...
I wonder how hard it is to manufacture a global shutter and how much extra cost that would add to such a camera, I also would love to see either a pro model with internal ND but seeing that the sensor is so large they could either install a Electronic ND or make some lens adapter with a drop in filter preferably an electronic ND as well.
The footage looks great and for me 36fps is ideal. As a owner of Lumix and Blackmagic cameras this is awesome, also I just want to try it with the Kipon Baveyes and my Mamiya set.
How do you think the S35 crop mode compares to using the Pocket 4K with a speedbooster? Considering that's the same effective resolution and roughly the same sensor size, would you get better detail from the new camera with its bigger photosites?
Hi Matteo, I missed the live session but I was wondering, what are the specs on your editing machine to handle processing this footage and your other BMD cameras?
I know everyone wants a Blackmagic FX6, hell even I do. But this camera is not that. This is a full frame Hollywood crash cam, that can match to Arri, Red and high end Sony without a trouble, will be Netflix approved, has timecode for multicam but, if you'd like you can also afford it! Doesn't mean it's the tool you need.
Thank you for sharing! I will say about the box design: I’m not rlly upset about it, but I understand that it would be nice to have a form of attachment for an external battery, bc BM knows good and well their cameras eat up power. Constantly changing and charging batteries is antithetical to the “run and gun” idea of the pocket cams and this cam. Still on the fence about this cam but we’ll see!
You change batteries every 1 hour or so. Much more run and gun friendly than having to use heavy vmount batteries and having to rig a monitor all the times
I had BM cameras and just got FX3 - its not magical but its really good. The technology inside is pretty amazing and enable me to have A LOT lighter setup and a better time as a single operator especially with a broken back and when travelling far - every kg makes a huge difference. I like BM and I like Sony. If there was not so much competition we would never have seen the cameras we have now.
I tried everything to make my ZVE1 (same fx3 sensor) look great. Always failed. In terms of image quality, dynamic range, roll-off, codec choice there is just no comparison. It’s a great camera for people that needs light setup and auto focus, but it has nothing to do with Blackmagic image quality. It always looks super digital. At night it manages lights very poorly and if you have some yellow light or mix color lights in the footage is a complete mess. IBIS is also terrible. Not gonna even talk about user interface, false colors, monitor etc. But yeah if you film a lot of events or weddings is probably a better choice.
@@matteobertoli weird maybe you havent used correct CST to rec709 workflow? I did not see MASSIVE difference shooting P6K or FX3 in the desert even. They both have about the same DR, sony has maybe a tad more pronounced log curve since its already baked in but when you convert BM to 709 its not magical - needs quite a bit of massaging in post. Unless you like a bit more washed out - desaturated look then yeah maybe 🤷🏻♂️
@@CINENIMUSi did everything correctly, but it still looks digital and the roll-off is nowhere near the Pocket camera. But I am not the only one saying this. I have many friends with a FX3 because they need it for the kind of work they do and every single one always tell me how much they miss Blackmagic image. Anyway, glad it works for you.
Sonys cameras (apart from Venice) are more of a convenience than a magical image. BM is far better at capturing a great look and it’s way easier to make it look good. But when shooting 3 camera interviews as a solo DP with maybe a Gaffer and director on top, autofocus becomes very very handy. Can’t deny that. But that are very specific use cases when in reality you can work with manual focus pretty much all the time. Also at like t1.4 it’s really hard to mf without an AC. Scenarios in which the Sonys shine, but all at the expense of the superior image. Just imagine that a $2500 camera beats out a $4500 or even $6000 one is insane to me. Spent that money in lenses and it even widens the gap
@@philippscheithauer in the right hands that image can be matched. You would know if you worked with so many brands as I did. Colour grading in itself is a skill that most think they posses but they do not. You can always learn colour grading (if you have taste and technical ability). But you cannot pull focus at f/1.4 while running solo. Or have a battery that actually lasts. Or be able to use small gimbal. Or have clean iso (when exposed correctly) at 12800. Or have a locked off hand held shot without a tripod. These things I mentioned above - they are not something anyone can argue about. They are facts no my opinion. And the “magical” colour of BM is just more pleasing starting point. In reality 13 stops DR is 13 stops they all the same just the log curve on Sony is a tad more pronounced but when you know that you can work around it. Literally any current camera on the market that shoots 10bit log can be matched to anything else.
Lol these are my thoughts exactly! I moved to the Canon R5C from the BMPCC 6K for my personal camera and to be honest I kind of miss my BM camera. Also I shot a lot of comercial stuff and my work only has blackmagic cameras and every time I walk on set I get asked; why not shoot Sony, everyone else shoots Sony… that is so annoying.
16:00 Rolling shutter from my point of voice... So, firstly, I'm getting this camera👍 The image among other things is incredible for the price and all gear is a compromise! I personally WOULD like better rolling shutter (I'm 3yr+ with P4K and LOVE BMD), I believe the rolling shutter on my P4K is better than the BMCC6K and was a little disappointed to see that. My reason is not academic, it's because I shoot hand held most of the time - even with longer lenses. When it comes to stabilising in post (when required), sometimes you lose the shot due to jello. That's all. It's real. It's practical and sometimes frustrating. Also, faster rolling shutter means faster sensor read out which means better HFR. 19:00 Pro-Res. If it was deleted from my menu 2 years ago I wouldn't even know! I've never filmed in it. Why would you? It's all baked in and is tougher on your computer!? Love your channel Matteo!
Most BMD users who want a box style camera are looking for something that offers the physical ergonomics of the URSA with the dual native ISO range of the PCC line. I don't think it's too much to ask for really.
Would like to hear Your thoughts on new BMCC 6K vs Panasonic 5siix in terms of image. A lot of people say that S5iix with BRAW is really good alternative Blackmagic cameras, because of good colors, image.
The release of the G9 ii, has me hopeful that the next camera Panasonic release might be the one to purchase. Because from the reviews I've seen, the G9 ii has better auto focus then the S5 ii/x.
This camera is great, amazing even. That open gate and 6:5 anamorphic. Want something with faster readout speed then get the 12k ursa olpf. Lol you can even buy both for less than many red cameras.
Thanks for sharing your opinions. Its funny you mentioned every possible camera I was looking at and you also mentioned starting with the 5d mark ii which is what I have. Been waiting for a while to upgrade to a new camera system because renting is better for bigger jobs but its more convenient to have a good camera without paying an arm and a leg.
Hello Mateo, thank you for your good content. I had Sony, Canon, Fuji and after having a Blackmagic Pocket 6K it was never the same to record with any camera, they seem boring to me and I only want to record with the pocket. I just changed my camera B, it was a Fuji XT4 and now I have an XH2 and I really love the camera. I think I should try it and abandon any future attempts with Sony. I even mix them very well, it is my hybrid camera and I use it as a B camera in video
It would be cool if the Ursa 12k could get an update to record proxy as well. Looking forward to see if Canon will release a small body cinema camera with Nd's & improved auto focus. It's rumored that the R5 mark ii will have Nd's, so that should get passed on to their other cameras as well. Hoping that it can record Braw external.
Great Video! So nice to see professional DP share his thought on this camera. Not everybody needs IBIS and autofocus to do their job. I was wondering Matteo. Have you heard of the Sigma fp (1700$ Internal 12-bit Full Frame 4K RAW vide )? And If so, what is your opinion?
@@matteobertoli I think they have fixed all those problems with firmware updates. It seems like a very good value for money camera and very unique also
great analysis, i am still a Sony user abs it is true about all limitations not to mention how digital the final image is embedded/baked with any slog. i firstly was inspired by BM interface then the color science and it has very high potential of being used in professional key point being; long as footage is being exposed right.
The biggest issue with a slow rolling shutter (for me) was camera tracking in post. If you do a lot of compositing with your content then it’s a BIG problem.
so excited with the camera BM has to offer! been to using different cameras, still looking back to BM since most of the manufacturer today is about marketing , AF .but the colors looks meh
People who complain about the shape of the BMPCC, regardless of what these cameras are capable of, are obsessed with how their rigs look! To be honest, long ago, i used to think the same way.
The footage I've seen so far from it is just something "else". It's amazing. I'm not out here shooting f'n cheetahs so I'm not gonna whine about rolling shutter.
My thoughts exactly. It seems the video/film world is amazingly entitled right now, wanting as much features crammed into a camera as possible. People have been comparing it to the Komodo, FX3, FX6, etc. Cameras that all costs more and in the case of the Komodo and FX3, cameras that you need additional accessories but for whatever reason when it comes to Blackmagic that’s looked at as a bad thing. I’m incredibly excited for this camera. Things like the built in NDs being taken away sucks but I understand because of the new mount and the short distance it has, at this point, internal NDs aren’t possible. And it’s not like people don’t have NDs anyway. I just hate this wave of “this is it blackmagic?” As if all those people aren’t already invested in their own camera ecosystems. RU-vid has made gear acquisition a hobby, you can find someone “switching systems” every couple months or so. For someone like me this new camera can take my images to the next level without breaking the bank except for memory and batteries, but that’s like any other camera.
Do you prefer a very gorgeous beautiful woman with nasty attitudes and behavior or a semi beautiful woman that would treat you like a King with smile on your face? The BMCC 6K Fullframe is like the semi beautiful woman that put smile on your face while you are viewing the beautiful gorgeous footages. I don’t care what anyone says I am buying it to try it, if I am satisfied with the footage then I will keep it. Take my money blackmagic!
