I used to really enjoy watching your videos but now it’s hard to make it through your videos since you constantly bash Star Wars. I understand if you don’t like but don’t spread hate you’re just making it worse.
When you tell people how to NOT write a story, it's good to have new StarWars at hand. I mean in those 3 movies there's literally every mistake you could possibly make from Mary Sue to Deus ex Machina.
They had great new characters that went nowhere. They had incredible actors and they wasted their talent. They had no story. This was a complete- absolute waste. I don't consider these movies to be cannon.
Every small piece of this trilogy was amazing, but it was assembled into an abomination by a bunch of different people who had no cohesive plan. The best musicians in the world will sound like trash if the composers and conductors have no clue what they are doing.
@@japzone Ben was even a failure. He went in circles for two films. RoS did better by him then the other two, but also showed how they wasted Adam Driver for two films.
I still don't understand why they made Finn a sanitation worker instead of a spy or something more interesting. I also feel Captain Phasma could have been a great villain who was tragically wasted.
In fairness, I think TRoS has a strong chance of getting a billion. HOWEVER, with awards season coming, and Joker possibly being a frontrunner, I wouldn't be surprised if Joker gets a boost to 1.15 billion dollars. In that case, mabye Joker gets more money than TRoS, and that woud be hilarious.
There's NO way it grosses anywhere near $100 million next week. I'm calling a 60-70% drop for sure. I wonder what the budget was for this movie - marketing and production combined. Haha, they ain't gonna make much profit on this as they thought.
@@amanms1999 Wow, are you serious? That's insane! This movie better hope to get to a billion. Man, I'm very pleased about this. Not for the fans getting shitty movies - they deserve GOOD star wars films - but the fact a lot of them are strong enough to not be giving them easy money. Disney DESERVES this. Godd, they think they own the world. Well guess what? The public OWNS you! You are nothing without our money. Go to hell, Disney! And god I hate the fact they have to own Avatar now, as well. Fuck them!
Considering it’s the final in not just the trilogy but the saga, it’s only competition is CATS and Jumanji, and it’s the holidays, it’s underperformed.
@@heydeadpoolhere968 the prequel and sequal plots, thats what this story ignored, every thing that Luke and Vader did, the defeat of palpatine it was all for nothing cause of this movie, so yea in a way it did ignore the previous movies, dont talk if u dont know what people are saying.
Kennedy also stabbed Lucas in the back by "agreeing" to use his treatment for the three films, and then tossing it and giving everyone free reign to do whatever they wanted with the story, all willy-nilly. One of the reasons this trilogy has been so problematic is the sheer lack of a shared vision; they've just been making it up as they go, which for a franchise like Star Wars is absolutely idiotic when it has one of the most passionate and knowledgeable fanbases of any film property. Fans know these movies like the back of their hands, and so many have dove neck-deep into the extended universe. You just CANNOT ignore the rules that the first three films established, like these films have, when so many other stories in the universe take such care to NOT break those rules.
There is a tremendous amount of lore --- and that's canonical lore ---- that was unwisely ignored and avoided by Disney's SW films. It's not fan service to use that lore. It's officially abandoning the fanbase in order to court new people into the fandom that simply wasn't there.
I still can't believe how Disney messed this up. All they needed was consistency throughout 3 movies. It's not even about being cheesy or repetitive anymore. The movies don't make sense if you watch them as a whole.
@@elenavanderwoodsen9783 I know but personally I felt it, cuase her whole character is inconsistent in what she can do like: Fly's the falcon epically, uses a mid trick almost instantly, and beats A TRAINED LS USER WHILE USING THE FORCE PROBABLY THE FIRST TIME IN THE WHOLE GODDAMN MOVIE... Need I say more?
I have spoken with my wallet by watching The Rise of Skywalker at a friends house after they sailed the high seas. No money will flow from my wallet to this studio until things change. Though I like The Mandolorian still not paying for that either.
@@evertonporter7887 I went to see this movie wanting to at least like it, but at most I have Luke Warm feels about some bits of it, but as a whole it is a HUGE failure in vision for the franchise and Saga and I do think it needs to fail enough that Disney will never go into the trilogy format again without a clear creative vision for the journey. Basic outlines are good. How is a billion dollar franchise skipping on skills learned in screenwriting 101.
I’d really like to see Dave Filoni take over he’s first of all a Star Wars fan but he also knows not to give Star Wars fans everything. He did a fantastic job with the clone wars.
Would not having the three mains on screen again for a movie be nostalgia by default even if the plot was wholly original? Not having them together again on screen is the largest missed opportunity in cinematic history.
how can anyone botch the starwars franchise ??? it was a money making machine handed to them on a silver plater and they still managed to alienate the entire fan base and the new fans dont rly give a shit... cant make a decent movie or game ??? rly how creatively bankrupt do u have to be to fail so bad Kennedy and co.?
In one hundred years time they will remember and talk about Lucas and what he’s acheived....Kathleen, JJ Abrams and Johnson will be long, long forgotten.
"its important to get a woman in there" why? the same way you should not leave someone out because she is a woman you should not include someone just because she is a woman.
Bad as the prequels were they still felt like Star Wars, these sequel movies just feel like fan-films, modern film makers putting their own incompetent spin on it. It all reminds me quite a bit of the DCEU, go back and watch the early Star Wars films and Donner Superman films and see how amazing they were, world class writing, directing and production, they almost made it look easy. Then watch the modern interpretations, they try so hard to live up to the originals, much higher budgets, ad campaigns and hype yet they're nowhere near as good.
This movie is underperforming and will be lucky to hit a billion. TROS should be doing Endgame numbers. It is promoted as the last in the saga. So these numbers should have been much better.
@@tunderdiamant8651 Not after TLJ, no, but if the trilogy had been decently planned out and executed then it definitely had the potential to do Infinity War and Endgame numbers in it's 2nd and 3rd entries. It had the hype, and then completely squandered it
Now that the trilogy is complete, I'm ok saying that the story ends for me at episode six. I enjoyed Force Awakens but it cant survive the other two films being the disappointments that they were to me. So it goes in the "nah im good" box with last jedi and rise of skywalker. Hopefully Disney actually learned something from this massive mishandling.
@@emanuelsosa8 but you can't deny that Jumanji is a smaller franchise in comparison to Star Wars. On paper the fight shouldn't be a thing, yet Jumanji is a decent movie and Star Wars' mismanagement put them on equal footing.
Disney should have made stand alone movies like Rogue One and Solo while a they crafted an arc for the sequel trilogy. Concatenating a bunch of different director's visions was destined to fail--Star Wars is too rich in lore for such a lack of planning.
Toulouse5 The ending of the Skywalker saga should’ve opened to say higher than this. The fact that we’re even questioning whether it could get to a billion is just terrible.
Sauron Merciful Yeah that’s fair but what to you think the cause of that was? TLJ obviously. Otherwise this trilogy would have continued to be prosperous in terms of box office numbers.
I like first six movies, it was consistent in story and world building. It has made a universe with endless potential, but clearly mouse house got no idea what to do with the universe. The mouse trilogy is a mess in plot and in universe world building.
Well the impressive world building doesn't make a good movie. THe prequels are very bad by story telling, which is the importent thing. TLJ and even TFA are better in that regard.
@@n0zenzur Disagree about the story-telling. The outcome of the prequels was always known and the key reason for their existence was to show audiences how Anakin became Darth Vader. The prequels did what they needed to do by moving the young Anakin through stages to deliver the monster in the mask, also explaining the downfall of the republic along the way. What is the reason for being of the sequels? To move the story onwards not just chronologically but thematically. But Disney delivered soft reboots, TFA in particular, and many commentators bemoaned that at the end of TLJ, the story was no further forward with no setup for Episode 9. That then played out with all the course correction in the final movie. Prequels had bad dialogue and acting with weird choices of focus (trade talks nonsense), but the elements of the story were in there. The sequels have no over-arching story, even the 'theme' of 'let the past die' from TLJ was reset.
I thought the prequels sucked. Episode 1 & 3 were ok, but writing was a big issue. Don't forget George Lucas hated SW fans by the end, loved KK & picked her to take over.
Rubbish, most Star Wars fans like both the original and prequels. The Disney trilogy is just complete mess. Finn just shouts “Rey” constantly throughout the trilogy and does nothing else.
@@ashishvenkateshgad47 I know, and it's funny how some people says that prequels are trash and the new trilogy is gold. The new trilogy is a dumspter into the fire.
they should have done some cinematic world building before launching a new trilogy....the story the trilogy was trying to tell should have been planned out, not made up from movie to movie.
I liked all of the disney films (probaly my second favourite trilogy) and even i will agree that not planing it out was a really bad move, they should have at least had a rough plan to follow and not having one created a lot of issues. Maybe some more world building would have also worked out better as well but not having a plan was a stupid idea.
It's too late. Episodes 7,8 and 9 were all that mattered to the droves of fans that have been waiting since the 80's for the end of the Skywalker saga. Those stories have been flushed down the toilet...any new content is just...Whatever
My biggest question is: "Who has been waiting for this saga to 'end' this whole time?" Return of the Jedi was an obvious end, and the prequels by design did not leave anything hanging. Marketing this movie as the end of the saga has always felt disingenuous to me because the saga pretty definitively ended 36 years ago.
@@snuffles504 George Lucas always spoke about episodes 7,8 and 9 rolling around in his imagination.. Not to mention the popular expanded universe novels throughout the 90's which followed the further adventures of Luke, Han and Leia following ROTJ.
@@sandiegosnakes There will always be more stories to be told in such as expansive universe, but Return of the Jedi didn't leave any plot points that needed to be finished. It completed the story that A New Hope set out to tell.
The last movie was just not what the Skywalker saga was meant to be. There should be an individual that understands what star wars is and follow it, Kathleen Kennedy is apparently not that person. A damn shame 😞
Walter Cabral There is. In fact there is a whole team of them at Lucasfilm. The trashing of canon and the lore was a deliberate decision from those in charge.
I agree with your Star Wars / DC comparison. There are goods and bads on both sides, but the lack of an overarching story or cohesive plan create difficult situations for both studios.
Yeah but Warner Bros is in a better position with their dc properties than Disney is with star wars. They don't necessarily have to do a shared universe at all. They can always do stand alone stories that sometimes connect but not all the time. Or they can simply reboot the characters like they're doing with Batman. Whereas with star wars, Disney is limited by what they can do if they mess that up. They can't exactly remake the original trilogy because that would only blow up in their faces. I mean they could but they'd probably get even more backlash if they did.
The message is clear, Kathleen Kennedy has to go! Moreover, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau need to get more space, more power to impose their view of the Star Wars universe.
When Chewy screamed out in agony it wasn’t just for Leia. It was for the fans he knows deserve better than Disney Star Wars and the fans who are oblivious to what has happened to the franchise. The real Skywalker Saga ended on Endor. This new trilogy should have been all new characters.
It shows unbelievable incompetence from Disney not to have a solid game plan going into this when they spent the amount they did acquiring the franchise
No I don’t think box office and awards are the final judgement. Some movies like Blade Runner or Wizard of Oz don’t get either and are seen as classics
such a sad ending for the iconic characters of Star Wars, their bloodline completed killed and wiped off and their Skywalker legacy fraudulently usurped by the granddaughter of their mortal enemy
It made half of what Avengers Endgame did on opening weekend. Half. For the last film in a Star Wars trilogy that's meant to end the 9 film 'skywalker saga', that's pretty bad.
Just to put things in perspective, Avengers Endgame had the biggest opening of all times and the only Star Wars movies that had bigger openings are the 2 films in this trilogy. Is it a perfect movie, far from it. Is it the complete trainwreck that people paint it to be, not hardly
@@MrLimbei123 in your opinion. I've had others tell me the exact opposite. All film is subjective so I won't argue the point. I also won't spend time trying to convince people that the film is one thing or another as I'm seeing so many people do with this movie
Before Disney got Star Wars, there was The Clone Wars series. And there was NOTHING "a mess" about that (other than the episode sequence). Most of us making noise about this are fans of the EU. Disney destroyed that. We are the ones who started this fandom shyt...and this the MF thanks we get? SW has always been more than just the movies for us.
If you would have told me in 1983 that after getting 3 prequel movies that told the story of Vader, the emperor and the fall of the Republic, and after 2 movies in the final trilogy wouldn't have the biggest opening of all time I would have laughed at you.
They could totally have started from scratch with some imagination, creativity and talent. All qualities Disney seems to be lacking. They also wouldn't have crapped all over the original films that way.
Ghost Wolf Really? Box office revenue for the US/Canada was 11.1B in 2018; in China it was 9.2B (83% the size of the US/Canada Box office, and growing) Between 2017 and 2019 there were 5 movies that opened in China to better box office than the 175.5M TROS just did in the US! During that's same time, there were 7 in the US.
The Force Awakens I thought with the hunt for Luke Skywalker.....and then finding him at the end was genius!!!! But the last jedi destroyed luke and made it horrible and bitter and depressing...….They could have made luke really take Rey under his wing and built up these two characters for many movies.....but they didnt....such a lost oppurtunity
Agree-JJ had great stuff set up but since Johnson changed it so much he was in a tough spot trying to finish it up. You could see JJ saying “Ok guys-he killed Luke so I can’t use him in my big finale.... he killed Snoke my big bad guy.... And we are making Kylo Ren turn good... so what the heck am I supposed to do??!!!....” The suits come in- “We have it!! We bring back... THE EMPEROR!!! Then... We make Rey... THE MOST POWERFUL JEDI EVER to defeat him!! Yes!!! The fans will LOVE it!!” (I actually enjoyed the movie anyway but I think I’m in the minority!)
The way Luke was treated broke Star Wars. He is Star Wars and he represented Lucas vision, he represented all that is good and noble, these idiots deliberately went out of their way to destroy him. Why though?
The latest season of always sunny has an episode where thundergun express is ruined and they hate it. The movie bombs until the franchise is fixed. This is what’s happening to Star Wars. Always sunny called it.
One hundred seventy-five million dollars is still a lot of money. Granted, it's not as high as the other original trilogy, but it's still a lot more money most films could make during their entire box office run.
I firmly believe how follow up movies do is largely a reflection of how the prior entry was received by audiences. I was annoyed by how many people were hating on stupid things about the new era in Star Wars, but I also have to admit that The Last Jedi was pretty bad overall as a movie. The fact that 'The Rise of Skywalker' was so weak (for a Star Wars movie) can be laid at the feet of the disaster that was The Last Jedi.
Can you explain the whole "attracting a diverse crowd" thing? Are you talking about globally? Or just in the USA? Because if it's just in the USA, isnt 56% caucasian REALLY GOOD considering that the population is mostly caucasian?
It is only USA however for some reason people grace included think the audience should be more diverse than the usa itself maybe because rural America doesnt turn up to the movies not sure tbh
“I don’t care if George Lucas wins. I need Kathleen Kennedy to lose.” Jk. Lol But seriously, I feel like a lot of fans feel like that. They’re still angry with the prequels but they hate Kathleen and the new trilogy more.
At this point the prequels are good and cheesy, if we compare them with the new trilogy is like the prequels are gold and those new three are pure bull crap burning out.
Manuel David Rendon Acevedo I feel the same way. I know the films aren’t perfect but I personally like this trilogy and the prequels have a special place in my heart because I grew up with them. (The original trilogy are classics.) And it’s fine if people don’t like SW and the movies, but ppl take it to such extremes. If you don’t like them, just don’t watch them. What’s the point of all of this internet craziness and attacking all of the actors?! :/
Did George Lucas really mess up Star Wars? As far as I'm concerned, the prequels, however flawed they are, still fits along with the OT without undermining it.
You can’t compare the Prequels to the Sequels. George had a clear plan from the start, we see this in theme, character, music and cinematography all through the prequels. And sure the final product wasn’t great, held back by poor dialogue, acting, flat story at times among others, but there was a clear story: *Anakins fall to the Dark Side and the fall of the Republic.* Whereas the sequels had no idea what they were doing; the mysteries set up in TFA (Rey’s parentage, Snoke, Luke’s exile) were tossed out the window in TLJ, then TROS counters by bringing back Palpatine which undercuts ROTJ by its self, but add the context of the Prequels, and 9 undercuts the whole saga by bringing back the Sith. Not to mention the story of the ST is *a small ragtag Rebellion against the Empire.* 🤔 think we’ve seen that before. Not to mention the Prequels pushed movie making technology to the next level, you can bash the special effects all you want but they were pioneering. And of course the Original Trilogy, it really speaks for itself. What legacy are the Sequels going to leave in that respect? Also the music, I feel John Williams knew how bad the new films are so put less effort into the soundtracks. There are very few memorable pieces in the whole trilogy. Well this turned into an essay, lol.
This whole trilogy is a dumpster fire. They had so much potential and it was absolutely wasted by a critical lack of long term planning before Episode 7 came out.
This week I'm watching Little Women with my little sister, we decided not to watch Star Wars after those reviews, our favourite character was Ben Solo so..... yeah, hard pass
I'm with you though I was a big fan of Luke and then I found Ben the most interesting new character to me and with that spoiler ending reveal I decided not to see it.
@@intrepid2010 Frozen is at 1.1 Billion still going strong due its immense popularity worldwide. SW opened with $175 million receiving terrible reviews. You not worried? Edit: TLJ grossed 1.3 billion. It's a 99% certainty Rise of Skywalker won't surpass TLJ yet you sure seem confident....
People are only watching for the spectacle aspect of it, not the story. Some movie goers don't even know what a Mary Sue is. They just think it's "awwwwwe" when Rey does what she does.
