For all the rookies out there thinking about power. This techniques probably isn't more powerful then the poorer way BUT,it's faster and and helps protects you in a fight.

Joham Cherisme when you get power from this punch it comes from driving with your back leg. It's very close to a wing Chun upper cut.

@@THESKITKRU Yea, the punch is "driven " off the hip as opposed to swinging wide and slapping it ,which sadly is what alot of people do with a shovel hook

I must say that I very much enjoy your videos. Working as a striking coach myself, I've sometimes found myself out of inspiration or felt a lack of a good way to teach certain techniques. You provide a lot of good tips, principes and pointers which have helped me find that love for striking again. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, keep up the good work bro! :)

One more thing, although it is related to kick boxing, if you are doing the wrong shot in the body, as the man said, and showed, in combination for example left jab, right body shot, opponent often tries to hit you with right leg kick after your jab (or simultaneously with your jab), and if you leave that opening between the elbow and the body, he will slip his shin in your ribs. Yet again JT Van V did phenomenal tutorial video. Often I look at a martial arts training videos, and this guy is doing the best ones. I salute you from Serbia!

3Kings617 umh you should actually go to a gym and train there, you should at least know your basics like: your stance, how to move forwards, backwards and sideways, your basic jab and straight. without your basics your punches would be floppy, weak and easy to dodge. this video is actually more for those who are on boxing or did boxing and trying to improve at home, i not trying to say you should stop watching it but i just try to inform you it is better to go to a actual boxing gym.

Great tips! Never considered the 1st one and nobody really told me. But I used to spar a guy who would look down and strike up and the other way around. This is a great way to fool smbdy and I adobted this trick from him. Expecially when sparring a less experienced guy -just a quick look at the guts and bam -headshot. It's like faking it, but better :P

Soon as you got to the bit about elbow position I realized I've been doing exactly what you warned against. I think part of the cause for this bad habit is the desire to throw punches as hard as possible. Better to throw with 75% power with good technique than load up for a haymaker that won't land anyway. Thanks for the tips, keep em coming.
@PrecisionBoxing

Mdougherty8054 yes land the shot first, if you know the guy is slow and open then you can wind up a bit more.

The other thing is that at my gym they teach us to slightly squat when throwing shots at the body, personally I find that I have too much to think about when I do this and there isn't as much power when I do this, what do you think?
@PrecisionBoxing
@PrecisionBoxing 8 лет назад
+TheMaster47x yes its a trade off to a certain extent.
@PrecisionBoxing
@PrecisionBoxing 8 лет назад
+TheMaster47x squatting on the set up shot before you throw the body shot will give you loads of power, squat in advance.
@TheMaster47x
@TheMaster47x 8 лет назад

great attention to detail again, thanks. a quick question if you've got time to answer it?? my gym has just got a new 30kg maize bag, I`ve been using it for 10 rounds of drills etc.instead of just the heavy bag and mitts. so far (in my opinion) it definately gets your slipping and footwork going. what`s your opinion of them? any routines you would recommend for training on them? cheers fella.

great video, thanks. i was wondering how you generate power with your lead hand, i have tried to use some method as the other hand, however the rotation of the waist seems akward when i try it.
@PrecisionBoxing
@PrecisionBoxing 9 лет назад
Alastair Baird lead hand power for a straight comes from driving off the back foot. For the hook its shoulder/waist rotation. You have to improve these aspects
@allstair4212
@allstair4212 9 лет назад
JT Van V thanks for the reply. so just to confirm, body shots on the lead hand should be more of a jab or a hook driving off the back foot, rather than an uppercut type of body shot as shown in the video for the rear hand?
@PrecisionBoxing
@PrecisionBoxing 9 лет назад
Alastair Baird no, body shots off the lead hand are rotation of shoulders and hips with the hand driving forward. dont think about the back foot.
@Uzi-nh5sr
@Uzi-nh5sr 9 лет назад
Hey JT Van V, quick question. I can bang to the body with decent power but I find it difficult to find my range when it comes to body shots. Sometimes I just jab, then get them used to seeing a jab, then feint it and go to the body and it does work but then I end up smothering my own work by stepping in too close. Any ways or training tips to avoiding that? Like I either end up over-reaching and being very open or stepping in TOO close and not being able to follow up the body shot with any combinations. Thanks!
@PrecisionBoxing
@PrecisionBoxing 9 лет назад
Yes, the key is to develop power in close, not try to get the perfect range. You have to develop your inside game
