POV boxing one round of sparring with an MMA fighter. 5’10 69kg vs 6’4 67kg Many more to come, still experimenting with other angles/editing and lengths so let me know what you’d like to see!
The short dude knew exactly what he was doing. Waiting for those openings and keeping distant. Even coming in more agressive near the end when he knew you'd be slower and worn out a little more. Sparing bigger people is tough especially if there's kicks involved it's like getting hit by a tree trunk 😂
@@realcartop thats absolutely what you should be doing, keeping distance until you find openings to close the distance and get to your preferred range (close) with the least resistance and damage while moving through his preferred range (mid).
@@realcartop when I said keeping distance I mean it makes the larger guy push in giving the shorter guy an opportunity to slip and counter. I was also talking from my perspective as someone who does Muay Thai against bigger opponents you don't want to be be taking too many kicks from them. It hurts very quickly 🤣
I always felt like sparring shorter opponents was exhausting because of having to constantly keep away. Then I started clinching more and it became much easier.
@@POVboxing I'm a short fighter myself xD My weakness is when people accurately jab me in the face, this really stops me from getting closer When he's getting close you might want to move to the side and DO NOT let him get you in the corner or on the ropes Either learn to keep your distance using your reach or get close first
It’s actually better to fight in a small ring when training imo because you have to do everything better since you have less space to work in compared to a full size ring that you will be fighting in
@@POVboxing awesome brother 👏 as a viewer, btw are you Mouth breathing ? If you are, I suggest some nostril breathing, it’s good for your lungs and heart 👍 teaches your body to function with less oxygen, therefore improving efficiency of the heart
I’m gonna be in that guy’s POV in March. Signed up for Golden Gloves at 165lbs and I’m 5’9. Guarantee they’re all gonna be taller than me. Update: Well guys, the tournament just ended for me. I made it to the semi finals and won a bronze medal. So far I’ve only uploaded my first and second fight to my channel. I’m about to upload the third. The funny thing is, the one I lost wasn’t even to a bigger guy. Same height and same build AND he has the same name as me too. I’m just glad I made it far in my first tournament. Current record is 2-1
@@nobeanieguru4128 yes but I’m boxing there is an average height for each weight class. For Example If you’re heavy and short you’ll fight someone much taller than you
Shorter fighters punch upwards. Taller fighters punch straight or downward. Upwards punches are more dangerous. As a tall guy I always remembered and respected this. Underestimate the short guy and you'll be laid out
The punching upwards makes the shot less hard its just smaller bodies are easier to control technique i sparred with a tall really good boxer 6ft4 all through covid and i noticed even with years of experience he needed to focus a lot more on just the movement of his legs.
This was fucking awesome. Please please please post more of these. I can’t explain it but it really felt like I was in the ring and my adrenaline immediately shot up. I haven’t been in the ring in so long 🥹🥲
That guy isnt just short, hes a short king. He knew that he was doing and he waited until you lowered your guard. Being short also kinds of gives you an advantage, since you can move way faster and be able to close the distance slowly. Great video, I definitely learned alot.
Violent? Maybe if you never watched a boxing fight. Those are the lightes punches I've ever seen. (I get it, it's a light spar) + they have sparring gloves and headgear, you will not really feel anything at that point.
When the shorter guy masters his head movement and becomes harder to hit he’s gonna be an absolute MONSTER deal with!!!! He just needs to learn to get his head of center line and he’s a killer.
For everyone asking, I'm the short guy💀. I'm an amateur MMA fighter, I compete at 61kg (135lbs), I'm 5'10, making me relatively tall for the weight class. All my fights are on RU-vid if you're interested, my names Max Mordente.
Damn. I had to quit everything boxing related due to medical reasons. This kind of videos gives me urges. Sparring with more or less equal opponent in a good spirit can be so much fun.
Excellent head movement and dodging from the little guy. For the record I suck at sparring and I'm usually put off joining in due to the fact. I get really cross and lose it when I get hit!
Thanks! Do some sparring drills where you don’t throw any punches and just defend until you can get passed the frustration of getting hit, over aggression will get you kod or worse you’ll hurt a sparring partner
Damn man you're tall af for 67kg. I'm 6'1 and sit about 80 to 83 kg. What's your wingspan btw? Also great spar, never really seen much like this before.
@@vex0854 Be nimble and jab. Shorter frame so you'll probably be able to slip punches easier and do good head movement and jab. Kinda like usyk if you've ever seen him and his fights. Idk though I'm no pro and a newbie myself so I'm just going off what I've seen.
What are you looking out for against someone who is shorter than you? Or I suppose what's gonna be the game plan of a short stop. Is it more body blows? Are they more quick on their feet? is it an endurance thing?
It depends on what’s working for them, generally I want them to stay outside my range so I’m watching out for them to try slip and get closer. When they do this I’m looking for a counter for them to walk into. Basically I don’t want them to get under a punch and pop up closer to me without having to fight for it
I think you really want a good jab and straight your fluid with at the end of the day it depends on the person but you need a good jab footwork is the key
That short guy is literally at menace when it comes to brawling. He had you gassed out and he was throwing upward punches which are pretty dangerous punches to get hit by in a boxing match especially by the shorter opponent. Good thing this is just sparring.
first thing a boxing coach should teach boxers is to breath thru nose, many reasons why especially too keep the poker face going and not letting opponents know that you are tired or in pain
@@POVboxing I ain't no pro but if you can't move or jab out the way don't be afraid to hold and reset until you develop a inside game, do not let him set his feet to throw combos as you being the taller man.
I think perhaps frequent gauging of the distance with the left hand (like at 1:11) would have been helpful here (think Larry Holmes). That may have made it harder for the shorter guy to maintain the distance and evade the jab.
For me personally being shorter is better in boxing since you can see the oppoents open parts which you can strike its just that your arms are gonna be shorter and so I have to get close and I cant throw jabs from afar
Same it forces me to use footwork and feints to close the distance. Double or triple jabbing helps and faking the jab. I’m a Muay Thai practitioner but I use a lot of boxing in my sparring(can’t kick everyone in the face lol) so I have more tools to use when I’m out of punching range I can still use a front kick or an inside low kick to take the role of my jab
@@nibbax7772 Im 5’5 and have been going to a UFC gym for a year. Sure, being of shorter stature sucks for most lineups, but as you spar and train more and more, you’ll learn how to use your “disadvantage” into a weapon! So don’t let hight stop you from joining any combat sport! Once you condition yourself, from then on it’s all about the mindset. A battle of wit and reflex. If you always challenge yourself you’ll end up being better than what you were ever before! If you change your mind and start your journey, then I wish you the luck! 👊
@@POVboxing hahah that’s crazy we had a giant dude clearly on steroids who was about 6,3 he only had a 69 inch reach the coach’s would shout “ fully extend your shots” untill the measured his reach lol
For me it's always easier when I spar shorter opponents even if they have more experience, because there is no distance where they can reach me and I can't reach them back at the same time. And you always know, that he has to go in so you can pick defensive style, catch on attacks etc. If you're a short guy unfortunately you have to be aggressive and attack and risk because you're outplayed by the reach already.
@@evgeniyushkov7103 I think it works more in mid- weight. My friend won a competition in such weight just because he strikes harder than tall thin guys in his weight. But in heavy+ class any blow is dangerous. The only advantage of short guy is his speed because of short levers. But in my experience this rarely gives an advantage against opponents with the same skill level (and their range advantage does).
I think you would benefit from using long uppercut from the lead hand or what they call the "shovel hook" for shorter fighters. It will get past the high guard much better and will do more damage than a jab.
I would throw less jabs if you aren't gonna dedicate. It was a HUGE mistake for me, I threw so many jabs and never got off any combos, when what I needed to do was surprise my opponent with my range and spring into action while they were stunned.
I’m 5 5 and yea pretty much a lot of fakes and sturdy jabs but I think I can say for most short fighters depending on who we are sparring we tend to be more aggressive or might just be me mb if I’m offending anyone love the sparring thx u
@@POVboxing Yeah it could be interesting, but i find a short in-fighter more practical because in-fighters generate alot of power from their short, muscular legs. They are closer to the ground so they can generate even more power, are more agile & have more balance. A tall person that does not have the mass will simply not be as effective as an in-fighter, most of the times
In my opinion I would use a a jab and hold it in front of his face and also you can mark the distance, after that you may try to use check hook or leap hook. 80%work on this kind of fighting style
