For the longest I was doing the shoulder width stance and wondering why it wasn’t really workin for me. Switched up recently and it has made ALL the difference. Then I stumble across ur video which gave me even more confirmation on why it’s working for me. Thank u for the quality content coach! 🔥💪

I'm from Europe and I was taught to a) stand shoulder wide and b) that both my feet have to face forwards. I never felt comfortable this way and I always found myself "correcting" my stance every now and then since it was kinda unnatural for me. Now I see this... Thanks Coach! I wish I had the possibility to train with you. I recently discovered this channel and it's like all your stuff is gold. Even things I thought I knew might have been correct in one or another way... but the details man... the details... Keep it coming my man! Guys, don't share his videos. We need to keep this for us! Just kidding LOL... this dude deserves so much more attention...

I’m not a beginner, I’m a pretty good amateur boxer but still I like to watch these types of videos, because sometimes my trainers don’t even notice these mistakes. I usually find small mistakes in my stance and fundamentals because of this video - thanks!

You have to learn to walk before you can run, right? Love your philosophy. Lay your foundation, and take it slow. Understand the basics and master that first before you go on to the next step. Thanks for the video, Coach!

Great video coach. I’ve always boxed from a wide stance but recently been told to try box little bit more narrow. They said it’s easier to throw combinations. But it just doesn’t feel natural to me. I personally think it was me possibly taking too big of steps when moving so my balance was a bit off. I’m working on taking smaller steps but from a wide stance. Been boxing for a few years now but I’m trying to come back to the fundamentals.

@BiH1207
@BiH1207 5 лет назад
Rayoza its a comfort thing related to how your body is shaped. A longer guy, a smaller guy, a taller guy, a shorter guy, etc. not all of them will feel comfortable in a stance like that. You hope that they would and try to. But its not always gonna work out. And then a lot will come back to someones hip flexibility/strength

most good boxers show different looks at different times. guys with a default wider stance, who can throw more then one good punch while backing up or off an angle change, usually don't hold the wide stance through those actions. It can also be of benefit to suck the back heel in a bit when you're dropping your weight and pulling across your body.... like throwing a quick level changes with punches, but not covering a lot of space initially.

A lot of people are put off on putting in work on the basics because they think it's easy. It's important to be aware while doing the basics and always thinking about it instead of mindlessly doing reps. Students of the game know this and it shows in the gym.

I noticed watching on youtube yesterday Larry Holmes had a really narrow stance as he moved and he wasn`t slipping shots well, somebody mentioned Fury uses a narrow stance so that he can move quicker they were comparing it to Wilder`s stance which is far too wide but affords him more power.

@@dmandiola77 Right... a wider stance. Like Coach Anthony said, traditionally that isn't what you're taught when you first walk into a gym. HOwever, alot of the newer generation boxers have adopted a wider stance and of course Floyd has a wider stance as well. Some would say that is isn't "good the correct form"-- however, for some-- it has proven to be very effective.

I gave the video a like as always and I get your point about the wide stance. I just think the stance width should change depending on what you do. For upper body movement, balance and power obviously your wider stance is better however for moving away cutting somebody off or footwork let's just say that shoulder width stance with the feet I believe is more beneficial. Thanks for another great video

I don't see any boxers from 1900-1960 having a wide stance. Plus if you stand wide, your hips will be working overtime. Straighter legs - less tired hips. Then of course, when you get on the inside, you need to stand wider for that stability and balance. But long/mid distance - hell no
