This video was an absolute headache to wrap up and finish. i hope everyone enjoys it. Be sure to hit the Like button that'll really get the video out there and spread the message. I am very surprised there is not really any videos out their to my knowledge discussing this topic. Typos at 13:12 I mean to say WBO International title. Inter-Continental Title is where its at. I would also like to add on , in a very rare sight. An Al Haymon fighter will be crossing the Politically dividing lines of TV network and promotion to fight, Shawn Porter will fight Terence Crawford. This announcement was made while I had already wrapped up and uploaded the video.
how would you compare pacquiao and mayweather in Pound for Pound rankings? Just curious to hear your insights... If you ever notice me, I just want you to know that I'm a new fan! Your vids are too good!!
@@King5003 if you knew why there was a bmf title, then you would not have made a comment. Dana said way before the fight was made it would be as a joke, one time thing. Ufc has 2 belts. 1. World undisputed champion. 2. Intern. Now let's watch the vid and see how many boxing has 🤡
It's said that even Patterson's trainer, Cus D'Amato, wanted that fight to die in talks. If anything, he wasn't wrong for suspecting that Liston had the mob in his corner.
And this only covers the four main boxing sanctioning bodies. He has not covered sanctioning bodies like IBO, WBU, IBC, and many other smaller sanctioning bodies.
Do remember that even the Pride which is MMA had ties to the Yakuza and Pride's downfall is even tied to the fall of Yakuza's power overall. It is fascinating how many Sports organizations has some ties to crime in their respective countries.
Yup. Not to mention Irish gangsters getting involved in European boxing, I remember there was a shooting at a weigh in event a few years back. It was shocking.
@@drinfernodds at a boxing or mma event NO, less surprising would a soccer match; those sports are famous for extra-curricular violence. At least, they are here =/
the WBC Title look the sexiest out of all of the titles but i agree with you i like the IBF it seems the one with the least amount of BS and the least restriction to become a champion without having to be the most marketable but rewards fighters for being great
I know Sonny Liston had a shady past but he was a product of his environment. Even so he earned the right to get a shot fair and square and I have a new level of respect for Floyd Patterson understanding that. Floyd was very on code for giving Liston a deserved shot and did not let his "positive" image put another black man down. RIP to both Heavyweight legends.
Its boxing not a job interview. Patterson's thinking was fair and just. Especially for that era, you expect them to have a bachelors and doctors degree or something??
16:08 Back in the day (2015) when i first got into boxing i was confused with how many weight classes there were, the in between weightclasses were the most confusing as how i saw it they had three names. Junior middleweight, Light middleweight, and Super welterweight. That was very unnecessary.
Hands down the best channel for boxing and boxing history. The editing, the writing, the attention to the small details are what sets this channel apart from others. I had no idea about foreign belts and their importance. Hopefully there are more videos in 2022.
Thank you so much for making this video. I think only hardcore boxing fans will understand the significance of having this available to us. The time this must have taken…….thank you for your time, energy and efforts on this. NOW……. can you do one on all the stupid weight classes???
My favorite belt is the IBF for sure. I KNOW that if a fighter has that belt is a legit champion, even if It is the only belt under his name. Oh and btw whats up with the "diamond" wbc belt??? Where does that one come from and whats the story behind It??? Awesome video Hancho always dropping bangers!!! 👊🔥
@TheNewfieDogGuy tbh he is not a bad champ, fight his mandatories and does his stuff is that he happens to be the weakest of the champs at 168 and never tried to unify, but it’s cool since Canelo is taking that belt for sure
WBC did "Diamond Belt" because it wanted a way out from stripping popular fighters that make everybody money...So, it's a mechanism for selective enforcement(e.g. "special consideration") of WBC by-laws, because the WBC prefers it's brand be, and then remain, associated with the, perceived, "best" fighter in a respective weight division.
it feels like an age since ive seen one of your vids....Absolutely top notch as always. I think its fair to say that you are one of the factors making boxing more accessible to more people.... More More More !
Rarely do I hit the "like" button, just because I don't want a lot of random videos on my "Favorites" list... but damn! if you're a boxing fan, you MUST like this video. Best ever explanation of all belt organizations. Thanks for everything, Hancho, you're the man.
Yo Hancho, I'm impressed by your knowledge of Aussie soccer bro, but your knowledge of boxing history... that's pretty f*ckin cool. Power and blessings from Melbourne Australia
the ibf belt is the best, and the most beautiful, and its my goal. i dont know how i will do. but, someday i will leave from Argentina, to miami, and tries to become a professional boxer and looking for the ibf belt. if its possible. i will comment that here. nice video
Floyd Patterson seems to be a footnote in a lot of videos about that era of boxing..but he seemed like a legit great guy who fought hard and either KOed or Got KOed in his 64 fights.
As far as I know, the major Belts are WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. The IBO is a minor belt in the west but a major belt in Europe. The Ring Magazine (Lineal Title) on the other hand is not a wolrd sanctioned belt but an honorary belt.
You got it right except that The Ring Magazine Title is separate to the Lineal Title. Ring Magazine may say that their champions are the Lineal champions and usually they are right, but sometimes they $#@! up and do not award the "Man who beat the man" as this video explains. Lineal champion is an honorary title like Ring Magazine but it carries more weight as politics can't interfere with it and strip champions and you can't win it unless you beat the previous guy or have dominated your division after the previous guy retired.
Hancho out here doing god's work for real boxing fans. Literally 2 months ago i was talkimg about why there are so many belts and divisions. So this was right on time
This video grows my respect for teofimo Lopez dude is only 23 but had the hard route to greatness and beat arguably the best fighter of his generation to become a badass
Floyd ought to be recognized as man of the year. By giving Sonny his chance. While it’s late, that’s such a great attitude to have. Wish it was more common generally.
Keep it up Hancho, your videos are always worth the watch, 10 mins, 30 mins, hell you could do a full doc with 90 or 120 mins and you would still get the views.
Very informative video on the boxing organizations. A lot of fans do not know about the regulations and politics behind the scenes, and this was very to the point.
thanks fam. Had to be a frikkin headache but the knowledge is on point. That IBF belt looks cold blooded. One of those European jawns that was in the Saunders photo looks really cool too, like a bunch of medallions strung together. Hopefully I will have a successful kickboxing career and get some cool belts too. Hancho for President!
Well done. Most casuals don't know the difference, so they allow fighters like Tank Davis, and other PBC fighters to skate, instead of holding them and their representation accountable, for not fighting the real champions within their division.
Who do u think was the last great champ if it wasnt Iron Mike (since Mike put all for titles together in 4 different fights, IBF* WBA* WBC* The Ring* ?) Nobody since Mike has beat all the champs to be undisputed.
@@pierrecalderone Joe Calzaghe was undisputed at light heavyweight. Josh Taylor is undisputed now, and Terence Crawford was undisputed at 140. The last great champion of boxing was probably Bernard Hopkins who held a piece of the middleweight title for more than a decade, and won the middleweight tournament in 2001, defeating Felix Trinidad in the process. Undisputed, along with the Ring Magazine distinction.
Long story short⬇️ -WBO works mostly with Top rank and frank warren belt as they have a nice relationship since the 90s -WBA to many belts (super)(regular) hopefully clean it up would go as far as to say corrupt and greedy however PBC affiliated -IBF doesn’t play games no BS only thing is for champions they cannot rehydrate past 10lbs the fight limit the day after to keep fighters from rehydrating to much, however my favorite and easy fast way to a title if u keep winning -WBC know as the We Back Clenelo belt for giving franchise belts and more nice to the cash cow fighters including putting BS rules for sanction fees just look at the lightweight division with Lopez, jojo diaz and devin Haney all champions in the same weight class also very overrated just for a green belt
New to the channel. Although a pacifist by nature I've appreciated athletic prowess. Ground and pound isn't my thing but prize fighting has always exhilarated me. A random recommendation to your channel lead me to it and its been a soothing experience, putting me in the zone, relaxed while simultaneously stimulated. This upload in particular has gifted me with clarity regarding titles in boxing and the history lesson has been a bonus. As an Aussie, the reference to qualification for the World Cup resonated. Google bless you.
Thanks I love the IBF because they give fighters and fans a fair shake, like the charity on the WBC but they have to stop making corruption so obvious example valdez vs robison Concicao. Like the fight they sanction don't like obvious favoritism.
Having a belt for everyone is one thing. What's worse is that the ones who own the legit belts tend to hold them hostage for as long as possible and almost never try to unify their division.
Heck yeah bro, that was by far the best video explaining the confusion with all of the belts . And this video explains it the beta BY FAR.... I learned A LOT about all of the belts. I had no idea about any of this. Thank you. It was very entertaining and interesting
Always rated the IBF got it's issues and i know constant stripping/vacating is annoying but it's a better alternative to the rest. Love me a B side fighter.
I think it's important to note that The Ring (magazine) belt is owned by Golden Boy and De La Hoya. So there's an element of conflict of interest in some sense. For me, the only place to have a fair and legitimate outlook on rankings would be the Transitional Boxing Rankings as it's a fully independent ranking system adjudicate by boxing journalists and experts.
Ring Magazine went bankrupt and was about to end up like KO Magazine and not exist anymore. Golden Boy did buy a stake or bought it out but part of the agreement, Ring Magazine operates as business as usual without any influence.
Lots of facts, lots of opinions. The WBA actually lists their criteria on their website and it does differ from what was said in this video. But for the .out part this was the best walkthrough I've seen of this belt mess
A big reason a lot follow MMA today is because it’s easier to follow at the highest level than boxing is. Everyone in mma knows the ufc champ is without a doubt the true world champion. Boxing such a beautiful sport but can be very difficult to follow
@@BoxingLegends2024MMA also has people training all over the world, UFC is just mostly the elite group of MMA fighters kinda like the Belt orgs in that sense. Except it’s still way more clear where things stand, who the champ is. Where the contenders are at and overall matchmaking is a lot better. There was a vid about undefeated records in boxing vs UFC and basically in Boxing 1/3 of the top per weight class is undefeated whereas in the UFC it’s less than 1/20. Reasoning being that contenders actually fight eachother to earn a title shot rather than waiting for the people ahead of you to lose
It was AT ONE TIME as you describe, when Steve Farhood and Tim Ryan were publishing the magazine. Now, Oscar De La Hoya owns it...So, just a TAD of conflict-of-interest.
