@dominicportelli1100 She absolutely did. It fit with her own self-deprecating humor (I think he knew the kind of jokes Joan made; he was playing more than insulting her) and she cheerfully replied, "Never!"
But after all these 40 odd years, I never noticed he lisps. I noticed it in a video he did recently and thought it was because he got his teeth fixed, but no. He's always lisped. That alone bothers me, cos it's so easy to correct. I wonder why he never did?
He is intelligent, but that's not what carries the interviews. I csn name 100 intelligent people who are a boring interview and as many great interviews who are dim. What makes his interviews is he's blunt.
+Antonio Caban In those days it was perfectly possible for British working class youth to be living independently in their mid teens in council homes, bedsits, squats. So he'd been an 'adult' for a long time at 22. Today people can be 29 and still living like kids.
As it was for Bowie a decade before! And still so a decade after this! I'm a fan of both and carry the torch, unfortunately not as much as an audience.
Off the charts brave. Bowie never had the massive profile this guy had and was mostly an alternative star. George took this image and his music right into the mainstream.
Jessica Davis yeah I started stealing my mom's car when I was 11 and was cruising around town with friend's all the time. Then when we turned 14 we where old enough to start picking up chicks and it was on. You can't even ask a 11 year old to toast bread now a days.
@@edwardsanchez3708 I remember some boys carried stiletto knives to school lol, if kids tried that today they would have been thrown out of school. It's illegal today also in most countries I think overall to carry a stiletto.
What I liked so much about this interview was that Joan had a genuinely engaging quality about her...she spoke with a sincere interest to know the person...not the persona.
Boy G. was, is and will always be gorgeous! He was innovative, creative and oh so fashionable. We will never see the likes of him again. He looks good now too!
V.Vega - NO , you're a fruity fruit loop! If you're a man and you find a hook nose ,over painted up man attractive then prepare to bend over and let rover take over! Lol!
I just saw them last night. I was a young adult in the 80s and knew their music, but really didn't know him. He is a wise, warm, intelligent, compassionate, witty, accepting, and vulnerable person. He and his entourage embody diversity and acceptance without having to scream it or shove it at people. A beautiful human being. Hopefully going to do a Vegas residency.
Say what you want about him but he was super articulate, mature and quick-witted compared to this era's 22 year olds - who are the intellectual equivalent of that era's 14 year olds.
Great interview....and to see a very young Jerry Seinfeld sitting there unnoticed was a shock. Joan opened many doors with her one-of-a-kind style of interviewing. She is missed.
@@ThomasJr He was treated as more of novelty act, though, compared to The Police who were treated as more legit by DJ's and music critics of the '80s. YET, Culture Club made better music than The Police. Name the top 6 songs by each to prove it to yourself. "Every breath you take" was bland, creepy pap, for example.
@@ThomasJr Good. I think their best also include: Time (Clock of the heart) Miss me Blind Church of the Poison Mind It's a miracle I'll Tumble 4 Ya Black Money Mister Man.
His communicative abilities are amazing. He really LISTENED before he spoke and let her lead the conversation while simultaneously owning the room. Amazing.
It's so crazy watching the celebrities you've grown up watching/listening to on old episodes of late night. Boy George, Jerry Seinfeld, and Joan Rivers in the same room. *mind blown
So advanced for a 20 something… he knew that time was short he had to make a mark and a living as a creator, the rest of us were out getting drunk with no direction… George was a very clever and erudite person 😊
A talented , intelligent, well spoken man , Basically self educated , yet still underrated , Outclassed anybody who dared to engage him in a clash to match wits , A natural center stage act , at quite a young age , The amount of radio play he got in the early to mid eighties was one of the main reasons he and his band made it .They paraded in and weren't afraid and they stayed , all you can say is ,, Well played ..
I feel like Joan is the only one I know that really let him in....I've seen other interview who just drilled him on what he was wearing not just talking about what he was wearing
i agree! ive been watching other interviews with him and the ones with joan are the only ones ive truly seen him genuinely laugh and let her in. all the other interviewers are judgmental and give backhanded compliments. i always admired the way he handled it though!
Had to find this interview because I just found all my cassettes. I recorded all his interviews, appearances, and hit charts back then when I was a teenager. This was one of my recordings!
Remember how in the 80s we waited forever in front of the TV to press record for our favorites to come on and of course it never was the first guest? Like on Carson before someone big they'd first always have on an 8 year old who had an IQ of 180 or some 80 year old granny who holds the world record for arm wrestling. 😤
Wow I was only 24, and we thought he was talented but well, we didn’t know what to think at the time in those days!! He was very different, but now it’s very normal! He was very polite, we all were polite to our elders back in the day! 👍For the eighties!!!!
I always admired this guy despite the fact that when I first saw him I was terrified and intrigued by what he stood for. In many ways, he's the ultimate pop star.
Oh My God. I LOVE this post!!! I could watch it everyday. To see this moment in history with Joan and Jerry and george all there.. some of my favorite people. I love George. he is so down to earth and so funny. This was a pleasure to watch.:)
The part where she asks him if he is seeing anyone special he can't say he's in a relationship with Jon Moss as he was in those days. He wanted to be open about it but that would have been bad for business. I always feel a bit sorry for him he had to keep that a secret.
Boy George, one of my personal heroes, blocked me on twitter after a night of defending him to a random troll... I was heartbroken, but I learned NEVER engage with trolls, and sometimes your heroes shoot you down with friendly fire.
I'm sure he did that to minimize the negativity only; not toward you personally. He is a strong, intelligent man and quite capable of defending himself if he thinks it's worth his while. Most of the time it isn't.
Hard to predict what he will block people for.... but he doesn't like that kind of debate on his timeline.... better to un-tag him if you want to engage in that kind of thing (although I realise you've said you don't want to engage with trolls any more)!
