She’s still with her husband after 10 years. They have a daughter together. Joan was a comedic genius but many of her jokes didn’t age well and were just silly/nasty.

Nielsen admitted in the past being an alcoholic, not a drug addict as alleged by Rivers. So while one of the two took the words literally, the other failed otherwise.

I love how Joan took no BS from her from the very second Brigette brought up about being mean to her 20 years back and just ripped into her. And then told her to get off the show and when Brigette mentioned drugs, Joan tore into her again. The whole thing is amazing. Especially when Joan laughs at “This is great!” and “You want me to get off your show?” “No, not really coz this is great television!“ 😂😂😂
How pompous it is when you are an Denmark native and start talking in Danish to look like you are better than the person next to you? Brigitte just didn't get it. She wasn't being attacked. She never was. She was the attacker.
Brigitte made a point about Joan‘s arrogance of belittling her husband for not fluently speaking english and talking to him like a little kid. Brigitte fluently speaks Danish, English, German& Italian and she also has an understanding of French. Her husband and her met in Switzerland so chances are they were probably able to talk at least in one of those. Joan was making fun of both Nielsen & her husband‘s comprehension skills and smartness, partially at least because they were no native English speakers. Saying something in German was her way of saying „see how that feels?“
This is the kind of shit tv was made for. RIP Joan. Im sure youd be very happy to see that shes still happily married to the same man, and is now free from the addiction of alcohol.
OMG! Brigitte was totally off. You have to admire Joan she didn't let herself be run over but she had the humility to try again. As a professional and a person she tried. Communication was just off. Brigitte is too in the defensive and to be honest doesn't seem to understand comedy or basic joke. It's even sad, really. Such a big woman doesn't include in the package big brains. The queen of humor interviews a lemon! Ahah

I loved Joan, but she kinda went in on Bridgette first. I think it’s rude to tell a guest on your show that they were on drugs. I think that’s when the whole interview went left.
You think wrong. Its Joan she is known to be so open and honest and go for everything. If you want to hide stuff don't show up. More people should be like her. We need this in society. Not hypocrites. There's already too much of those every were: TV, celebrity, politics.... The interview started to go wrong as soon as Brigite walked in. The way she went for it, talking over Joan. Specially when she prased Joan but then can't handle a single thing about her. Also... showing that she holds a 25 years old grunge on Joan. She went to a well known strait shooter comedy talk show but was not open to any of it. What a disappointing she turn out to be. I don't envy her brains! Lack of humor. Lack of understanding. And the way she went for the "husband" as if he was a puppy to play with... lol. I feel sorry for her. She must be not well adjusted every were she goes. And her marriage lasted what... less than a year?
@@sitcomsTV like I said, I loved Joan and I’m well aware of her blunt honesty, and that’s what I liked about her. But there are some things that some people don’t feel like airing for the world. And it wasn’t WHAT Joan said, it was HOW she said it that probably put Bridgette on the defense. I feel Joan coulda approached it more kinder, and not said it like she did.
I like Joan Rivers 😂 she is the talk show host that we need. Always asking blunt questions and so entertaining 😂 I like both of them for how different they are and idk they both seem cool to hang out with. This is why my friends don’t like each other bc I friend all types 😂

That's Joan though. You don't go on her show unless you can take the jokes. She was interrupted so couldn't get to the punch line which would have probably been self deprecating.

Joan Rivers was society’s litmus test to tell you which celebrities could have a laugh - at their own expense (the smart stars) and the self serious a-holes (like dear Brigitte here, and if she wasn’t on drugs, I’m actually more concerned).
Nielsen seemed to want to keep things positive, but Rivers went from boorish to outright cruel very quickly. That Brigitte came back for another segment is amazing, but she was trying to salvage the interview when Joan began to mock her husband and make faces and gestures to draw laughter from the audience. Instead of trying to match wits with Joan, Nielsen should have just ended it there and left.
Nielsen was immediately boiling up an old story that went on her ego. She couldn't handle the comedy also back then. Joan was known for roasting people and herself. A-list celebs loved her for being included.

Joan is cool, but this whole so called interview should not be done by her. Theres too much shouting and attacking, and that's not what Birgitte would be used to. She was a highly paid global model that spoke 5 languages as most Danes tend to. Also a host can never try and outshine the guest and thats just not what she would get in Europe at all. I mean she was a woman with loads of marriages behind her, first she was with Kasper Winding one of the biggest music guys of Denmark in the 80s. He even did theme songs to tv shows. Had the biggest song of the 80s. And she had several hits in the 80s. Everybody needs a Body was one, later she did Body Next to Body with Falco, that was a hit too in 87 i think. She was basically the danish Sam Fox at rhe time. Glamour model tuened Popstar. And the drug thing was weird as she was known for loving the wine too much but i feel mixing it up with sleeping pills , or pick me ups and so on. She didnt have a rep for doing coke and all that. I think she was more like Anna Nichole Smith where her daily stuff just took overhand. But she also had her own talkshow and it was done more low key as the American style has never worked in Denmark. Irs too loud and seems too joke based. Thats why Letterman. Leno.Fallon and DeGeneres didnt really work and all ended up around 5 in the morning before being pulled off. US talk shows seems to be the worst thing any DK tv Station can put on according to themselves. They have the worst viewing figures of anything broadcast. Letterman got 4 years maybe almost 5 and thats the longest of any talkshow from the states. I used to watch Letterman and Leno when they where around 23.00 but not when they started to put them at 4-5 in the morning. But Birgitte was on talk shows all over Europe back in the day, UK will never forget when she did Fantasy Football League with Skinner and Baddiel. She was wasted, couldn't even remember what a Snegl was called. A danish pastry that ended up with a weird name she just came up with on the spot. But shes very nervous when she does talkshows in other countries as she gets weird about it. Dont know why, as shes been bumming around the world since early 80s and should be used to it by the 90s. But she never seemed confident on cam really. Which is dead weird. I mean she made music vids and films all over the place. Red Sonja btw was fun. I think Stallone saw that and wanted to meet her.
The way Brigitte was touching the "husband" - who remained nameless (whoa!) was so off. Really, very off. I'm guessing the marriage was short lived. I also wished best for the "husband" ! :) who really sound sweet.
Brigitte just didn’t get it. Joan wouldn’t have come off as “mean” if Brigitte knew how to play along. And good for Joan to know how to make even an extremely uncomfortable interview funny. She was the greatest.
