The fact that Yayan Ruhian a.k.a. Mad Dog from The Raid movies is in this movie made me so excited for the action scenes. He deserves so many big action roles and Hollywood better not waste his talent. He's 55 years old and can still kick ass like a beast!
Yeah, I had no idea he was in it, but that makes it an instant watch for me. The man is an absolute badass and seriously needs more love from Hollywood.
As soon as his face popped up in this review. I knew I had to watch it. I dont care. Cut the review, I dont want spoilers. I want to see mad dog train mad pup to kill people.
Just came from the movie theater and did not watch this review before then. Had no idea Yayan was in this movie, but when I saw him on screen, I knew this was gonna be a good action movie. Was not disappointed.
@@briansmith7870 ah that explains it. I thought I remembered archer sounded a bit more suave and less jittery than Bob. But you're right just watched a clip and its identical.
Shawn's all "I don't think you should use that notebook." Flips hair behind ears. "Shawn's, It's just a notebook, what could happen." Eric steals it, kills Mr. Feeney. Your comment took me on a journey during lunch break. Thank you.
Having the joke about how he can’t understand what that guy was saying so his dialogue was just gibberish was really fun and the fact they committed to it for the whole movie was great.
Funny enough, one of the actors from The Raid, Yayan Ruhian a.k.a. Mad Dog was in this movie too. So I'm guessing the filmmaker worked closed with him to choreographed the fight scenes
I absolutely loved Boy Kills World. Watched it yesterday with my best friend who I consider a brother. We both really enjoyed how the film doesn't take itself too seriously. The Action always felt intentional, the gore has us cringing just enough. Something that surprised us both was the ending. The fact that it turned out to focus on the sibling relationship really warmed our hearts. And the fact that its filmed entirely in our country and city, Cape Town, South Africa, is just the cherry on the cake. We even know some of the people who played some of the smaller roles. There are certain parts of the plot that i do have some critics for. However, the experience as a whole was amazing.
@westin556 Archer: C’mon boy, you know you want to kill world. Bob: No boy, don’t kill world. You should love world instead. Archer: PHRASING. Bob: Gene…
I was thinking the title reminds me of Kill Bill more than boy meets world. Funnily Pennywise’s actor in this movie’s real name is BILL. His family is so talented from Stellan Skarsgård in the recent 2 Dune movies to Alexander Skårsgard in Infinity Pool, Godzilla Vs Kong & other stuff. Bill is starting to make a name for himself as well, away from the awful IT movies, with John Wick Chapter 4, that one scene in deadpool 2, the crow & now this. He’s also starting to get the Chris Hemmsworth treatment when they’d make sure to make every one of his movies especially the trailers & advertisements to focus specific on his torso. Now Bill is having the same treatment with this & The Crow highly emphasizing his torso
@@packedentertainment2866 Respectfully, this sounds like a bit of mental gymnastics. Boy Meets World to Boy Kills World makes more sense than thinking of Kill Bill 😂
@@savonlofton BKW vs KB, both start with the same 2 letters in front of the first 2 words but switched. The actor’s name is Bill. So not really much of a stretch. Plus the action from the trailers along with the outfits just gave me kill bill vibes. Along with Bill Skårsgard being deaf & mute, reminding me of when The Bride was shot while pregnant & every time anyone said her name it was bleeped) meaning only they can hear her name & we only hear the bleep until the second movie similar to him having the inner monologue that only he can hear along with the viewers. All of that just made me think of Kill Bill even more when reading the title. It never even crossed my head to think of boy meets world
As a person who has an inner monologue, it is really hard to imagine not having one. I imagine those without probably don't handle being alone as well. But they probably fall asleep easier.
I imagine that those are the same people who feel the need to comment of their random observations or don't really "have a filter." They think it, they speak it.
Mine is there sometimes but its almost silent. You are right about the sleeping and loneliness, but that other commenter is wrong about the filter, i have more of a filter than most people. I dont think monologue has anything to do with that
The boy character being acted by and "voiced" by two different actors reminded my of Sweet Tooth from the Twisted Metal streaming series on Peacock. It is acted by sumo wrestler Samoa Joe and voiced by Will Arnett. I loved how the two actors built a character that would be almost uncastable in present Hollywood. Im looking forward to seeing how they meld the two performances into one character.
I don't watch any movie anymore before I take in a Jeremy review . You've saved me countless hours of wasted time with your reviews . Been a fan for years !
I am on your side on this one, watching a review to see general opinion is ok but being totally dependent on it to decide what to watch is not great idea since you never know you might like something that reviewers and audience hate.
Bills Skarsgård Shonen anime voice gave me LIFE!!! Oh btw the shaman was the villain from both of the raid films. Absolutely awesome to see him in an American film. He deserves more credit as an actor and martial artist. Truly great!
Watching mainly because of Yayan Ruhian and Andrew Koji. Was happy to hear Yayan nailed his role so that was enough for me. On a side note I think it would be cool if you reviewed the movie Dancing Village: The Curse Begins, which also came out today.
Dude I just wanna say thank you. Like honestly. I have been watching you since I was in middle school, and I am about to graduate college now and I have been watching your vids every step of the way. Thank you for making videos, I hope to keep watching after I graduate.
Boy Kills World ruled. It was action porn with the correct amount of self awareness. Nice twist at the end. I see it becoming a cult film for folks that know honestly. I was solidly impressed with it.
When I hear Bobs Burger voice, regardless if it's Archer or Arbys, I always refer back to Bobs Burgers. How does this guy keep getting work using the same voice for everything? It's like hearing Homer Simpson over and over. Great vids!!
Hey Jeremy! Glad you had the time to take care of your dad during the pandemic times. I’ve been a watcher since the hilarious red wedding reaction. I am thankful for your content. It makes me smile. Keep going as long as you can stand the challenge of Hollywood content lol. They don’t make it easy when they produce garbage on such a grand scale. I love the films that surprise us more than the formula driven movies. I have discovered a lot of good movies from your reviews. Thanks
Completely agree with Jeremy here, don't let reviews like ign suede you when the reviewer's not the target audience. 10/10, would buy on blu-ray for me and a friend 👏👍
I thought it was an anime style The Raid + Archer= absurdly Good movie, the comedy from the lip reading, to voice work or random weapons cheese grater or carrot, made for a fun Ride and the run time was perfect
Civil War was boring as hell, Abigail was ok, Challengers was fine. Omen movies are poop (that's me thoguh) watching monkey man tonight. Don't think this is a good month for movies at all. In fact, it's possible no good movies are happening until the end of July
Idk y but archers voice goes so well with bills character might be one of my favorite movies rn. Soo happy we’ve been blessed with some good films recently like this one and civil war and kingdom of the apes coming soon. It’s been hard with all the garbage that has recently been being put out
That ending emotionally hit me hard. For those who grew up having a sister you will understand. Even if the sister wasn’t into video games when they got older they were when they were young and they played the games with you like sonic 2 or Mario.
Watched this from mystery movie release a few days ago! I honestly had more fun with it than I did watching Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which I watched a few hours before. My SO didn't like the shaky cam so much, whereas I liked it from the ride it gave you. Worth a shot, Jeremy is right on all points.
I was able to see this at TIFF last year, before they cast H. Jon Benjamin as the inner monologue. It was more of a generic sounding tough guy inner monologue originally. I'm looking forward to re-watching it to see how Benjamin's voice enhances/changes the character.
Maybe I'm dumb but I didn't see the ending coming until quite late in the movie when the helmet comes off and even then I wasn't super sure what was going on. I loved this movie. So much action; it was exciting and well filmed. The emotional ending did get me and I loved it.
@@t.b.y.a.visceral8615I mean I wouldn’t expect anyone to buy a game off his review but it’s still interesting to get his take. Plus he knows stories, rdr2 is all about the story
Your description of this reminds me of Level up, similar in that it uses tropes and cliches but its energy and violence give it enough character and fun to enjoy it.
In this, he suffered his injuries when he was young. No stranger to video games. So now, throughout his fighting he'll blurt out things like "fatality" or "player one/two" which will be a nod to all those fighting games he grew up with. But the fighting sequences are legit- complex and lengthy
You remain the top of your game. I loved this review. It really makes me want to see this movie and I know from your review, I am going to love it. In my mind you remain the greatest living movie reviewer. Thank you for continuing to make great movie reviews for the world. I need to get together with my son to watch your channel. Enjoy Life!
Quick question Jeremy, any plans to incorporate streaming into your ranking categories? You have buy on blueray, as an example, but have you thought to do, stream on free trial, or would pay to stream as updated options to the rankings?
I was crossing my fingers for this one, because I think its the best thing we can use as a measuring stick of how good The Last Ronin could be. Obviously TLR is a darker tone, but the people behind this and the energy/fights are there. Very optimistic now.
i saw this movie at TIFF last fall and they actually had Bill Skarsgard narrating which was... interesting. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it felt too much like Deadpool. Interesting they changed that from festival to official release. Liked this thing and was really impressed by the action even if the comedy was a little cringe at points.
I loved this movie and I can’t wait till it comes out on streaming (and if anyone I know wants to go see it then I’ll probably go with them to see it again) I was a little bit surprised to find that most of the scenes in the movie were in the trailer, which made the movie feel a bit quick but I still had so much fun. I think it’s really sad that they didn’t advertise it very well though, because there’s almost no one talking about it.
This movies absolutely genius. It has the same type of energy and comedy as monty python and the holy grail. How did it bomb at the box office. This movie was great.
I wanted to see Boy Kills World but my local theater didn’t show it, my next closest theater didn’t show it, and the next only showed for a week. I wasn’t aware this was supposed to be a limited engagement release.
That’s bizarre I live a pretty decently small city that doesn’t get or keep a lot of movies in our theaters but this one has been stuck since it’s release.
@@Link-dh3vg I agree. I’ve never seen anything like it for what I thought was a wide release. Two of the three theaters I mentioned are part of a large chain (Cinemark) and the other is a small chain within California only, I think.
Same here! I desperately tried to view it in theaters, but they only played it once a day at like 2:30 pm when I was at work. I tried and tried to watch it. I even had someone cover for me at work, but then they called out and I had to show up. Instead, I watched "Unsung Hero", which was surprisingly good, but I wished I'd have saw Boy Kills World in theatres instead.
On the subject of movies that have two endings. JJ, I highly recommend watching the Korean thriller, Call from 2020. I'd actually be super interested in your take on the film. If you liked Frequency with Dennis Quaid and that other guy who sucks, you'll love this one.
Man this was a helluva ride. Felt like peak Matthew Vaughn with the fight scenes. Didn't think I'd see an unofficial sequel fight scene to a fight in the raid
learned about people not having an inner monologue during covid times blew my mind. It's really weird to think that even the way other humans think on a very basic level can be so different. No wonder we have such trouble understanding another person.
I saw a few previews and the poster for this movie, and didn’t think much of it at first… The instant I saw Mad Dog on the poster, I knew I had to see this movie.
i rarely love action focused movies... but this shit right here... insane. loved it almost more than john wick. john wick felt more focused on how many people can this seasoned assassin kill before the movie ends. the boy in this movie felt like an untrained assassin who is just winging it
No bullshit, there are those people, the red flag would be the also suffer from word vomit! Where they say what is EXACTLY on their mind at that moment in time, no filter! We all know these people, in Bill Skar\sgård case though, since he’s deaf/mute, he can’t do that , hence why he chose and has Archer in his head speaking for him! Otherwise, I’m sure he’s be the wisecracking smartass with quick quibs like Deadpool or Spider-Man! Lol
So far we have buy on Blu-ray for 2024 are Boy Kills World, Dune part 2, Abigail, First Omen, and Late Night with the Devil. These are all a must watch IMO.
Sadly, the only one out of those that has delivered solid box office numbers is Dune 2. With so many strong low to mid-budget movies underperforming or straight up bombing, it does seem like theaters are increasingly becoming the place for big budget franchise movies and not much else.
I want to see it, but I wanted to see it in my Dolby Cinema, but it wasn’t in it, so didn’t go. Dammit. I will for sure get the 4K Blu ray. Love your reviews, Brother! Fully trusted, like Dan Merle.
Sharlto Copley is such an awesome actor who has a nose for films that are absolutely awesome action spectacles. God it bums me out the director of Hardcore Henry hasn't done any new first person action films in a while. Speaking of which anyone who loves Hardcore Henry should look up the music video 'False Alarm' that he directed. It's stellar.
I hope that the director of this film is an avid watcher of Jeremy's videos. It's then and only then that he will truly appreciate how much praise this rather calm video amounted to 🤌🏼
