I grew up a Scout...Mom was a Den Mother...there was always a sense of pride in that. It faded pretty hard when they chose not to conquer the pedophile problem...now, it's gone completely and the scar is embarrassment.

Honestly, my time in the BSA, I can't blame girls for wanting to be involved in this organization, albeit this is from my perspective. I knew one Girl Scout troop, we had sort of a brother/sister relation as, well, some members in both were brother and sister. "camping" for them is hotels, day trips, tours and amusement parks. when we went camping, some would tag along and they had fun (even in the dirt, mud and dust). But this just feels like a slap in the face to the Girl Scouts of America

So, in that sense changing the name seems less dumb... but still most people are going to react the way I did, because most people probably don't know that.
