I feel like if you were born and raised in the 90's-2010's this movie will really hit you hard. It was literally almost like watching my life. And the fact that they used the same cast for so long makes it hit even harder. Bravo.
Joseph James. Exactly..I’m a year older than him so it was almost like watching myself grow up. When I saw the dragon ball z blanket and he was watching it as a kid I’m like that’s me lol
This movie is incredible and to see its value you have to do more than just watch it. Those who dont think its great just havent felt identified.with the movie. You have to interpret it and compare it to your own life. The movie doesnt have a certain plot but its simplicity is what makes it perfect.
I was hooked by the wonderful Family of the Year song "HERO" months before I got to see the film "BOYHOOD" in January 2015. I have three sons & a daughter & very much appreciated the film & the patience shown by the director & cast. IMHO it fully deserved the BAFTA Best Film & Director award & I am surprised by the negative comments on here, but I doubt if Richard Linklater is perturbed by them.
The thing is this is a sad movie reflecting childhood of a boy who has to live with single mom and because of that, PLEASE dont say "crap" or "pseudo-intelectual", if you has to grow up in that situation, are you gonna have a better OR more prospect future? it only about reality (90% of it)
very real movie, very depressing, is there something bright one can take away from this movie? I think no, I guess realization that you should appreciate your family
burningknight7 That's a really fucked up question to tell. Then what about a different director and producer ? Lol even different weather ? :D That's a typical stupid "what if" question that is just a waste of time to even think about it. But here's an answer: NO! It would be DIFFERENT. Lol.
I don't think there was one interview that I watched regarding this movie and haven't cried at least once through. I honestly think the movie AS a movie is boring but I think maybe I think that because I'm so hypnotized by Ellar and the physical and intelectual changes he had made through the years that I literaly can't pay attention to the plot and the text so I can't and won't say this movie is bad, only that it's not as relevant to me as Ellar. But he is only two years younger than me, and we belong to the same generation and shared allot of the same expiriances in different parts of the world without even knowing the other exists so I do feel a special connection with him, I strangely feel like I "found" him somehow. There's something there and I don't know what it is. I'm just very attached to him and above all feel very proud and blessed to have something like that happen for the first time in history in my generation. I mean it's sort of a miracle in a way don't you think? A huge gift. Huge.
Lewis Cranston I hate loud movies. And you've obviously haven't read my full comment so please do and understand that I love this movie. And while you're at it, cheack out my channel and see the video clips I'm making, you'll see what movies I love and you'll see that you've just tried to convince someone who's already convinced. I said this movie was a miracle so, I can't think that it's boring can't I?
FYNFB first of all it was a poor choice of words, what I meant was I was having a difficult time with the unclear nerative of the plot itself. One thing led to the other on the emotional level, not the structural level. This project is overwhealmingly moving, and it runs so deep that sometimes the surface itself, scene and dialog wise, can seem a bit flat in comparesmant to how it makes you feel, because when I watched it for the first time, and Ellar grew up in front of me, I didn't remember the previous scene I watched, I remembered him being one year younger in said scene. And I was hypnotized by the subtle changes in his face and his voice and his body so the ongoing scene sequance of the specific year wasn't as intersting to me AS A SCENE TO ITSELF as Ellar's physiological and emotional transformation. That was a first. Second-I said it was boring to me and he somehow, not based on anything I said, asumed that I didn't like the movie because it was quiet. I hope I was more clear now.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but a lot of people tell me it's boring, plain and nothing extraordinary ever happens in the movie. I don't even know why I would watch a movie about somebody growing up? Haven't we all been through this and seen it all happen to other people? It looks to me that the whole purpose of making this movie was to shoot it for 12 years regardless of whether it was necessary or not. Correct me if I'm wrong.
byay I think he is awesome. Also, as evidenced by this interview, he is super smart. Some critics complain about his acting but I thought he was the perfect choice.
Honestly, the movie was alright. I didn't love the movie. It wasn't bad, but I just wasn't satisfied at all at the end of it. I think the whole project wasn't worth doing, but that could probably be said even if it turned out to be a wonderful movie. Twelve years is a lot of time and money to invest, and you never know how it's gonna turn out. I was expecting a more emotional ending to a twelve year journey, but the ending was kinda boring. I didn't feel an attachment to any of the characters, and for a movie called "Boyhood", they focused a little too much on his older years in my book. Instead of focusing on his childhood, they put more time into his older teenage years.
