Georgetown, Ohio was platted in 1819 and took its name from Georgetown, Kentucky. The town has a very interesting history including the fact that it is the boyhood home of Ulysses S. Grant.

I just moved to Georgetown Ohio in September or October! I honestly like this town. My parents and I moved here from New Richmond, Ohio. Lived there for 24 years. I miss it but Georgetown isn’t too bad I guess lol. Still trying to get used to it. My favorite part about this town is the church with a picture of Jesus and the cross on the wall outside across from UDF to the left coming into Georgetown from Hammersville. Basically by the Police Station.

I'm from southeastern Wood county, & have been an Ohio history nut for almost 60yrs. I find very few "trivial" or obscure facts& bits of information that I'd consider to be insignificant, To me, the further I dig, the more treasures I find.

There was a video on RU-vid of the Georgetown, Ohio Sesquicentennial parade, I believe from 1968. I travelled from Kalamazoo,Michigan to the celebration at 5 years old or so, with my parents and several family friends who had connections in Georgetown. Sadly that video has been taken down!! I had saved it in my "favorites" because, not only did I see the float that our friends had put together, but I think I saw my mother, father and myself standing on the curb watching the parade! (Can't be sure, as it showed us from behind, but my dad was 6'4", my mother 5'2", and I was about 5 y.o, , so it was easy to see those distinguishing differences in height, and a young, dark haired boy in tow. The float I speak of was pulled by horses, and had a moonshine still on board, and the riders were all playing instruments and singing. Country and bluegrass music was always a part of our gatherings back then. I was beginning to play the guitar myself at that age, and actually remember being in a small corner bar, drinking Faygo Red Pop, and entertaining the folks who were in attendance. It seems like the bar had a backyard "beer garden" setting as well, but that could be a different memory. If anyone has any photos of that event, or can direct me to the old 8mm film that was shot that would be awesome!! We had some great times growing up in the 60s and 70s, and this is a memory that really stands out for me. Please help!!

Born and raised in Georgetown. Any fellow buckeyes that remember when the court house burned down ? Red fox inn town tavern?

I lived out on state route 68 on the Kincheloe farm right past smoky hollow road..Was raised there and went to Mount Orab high school.Went to grade school in Newhope..I think i was 16 or 17 when the court house burned..Cheryl Fossyl was a friend who was murdered because she said she would testify in a shooting case in Argies or Archies bar by the court house cant remember the exact name..Did you know any of the Gallimores? They lived close to the laundry mat..I dont even know if its still there or not..My oldest sons dad is Eddie.Would be nice to hear back from you being you are from there..You can catch me on FB..shirl perry..My maiden name is Amburgey..TY

@@shirl0955 Argy's is where they placed the Grant statue. I lived in Gtown during those years and knew and partied with most of the players involved the the drama at that time. The whole courthouse burning and Fossyl murder centered around Argy's bar. Argy was quite a character. All the respectables hated her and all the rebels loved her, but she wasn't the main character in this event. To keep this brief, one night a good friend of mine, Monroe, was shot in Argys and died. One of the Bradford boys went to trial in the courthouse sometime later and a plot was hatched at the bar to burn the judge's robe in his chamber, not meaning to destroy the courthouse, but that it did. The rest is only info that I learned from people that were close to those involved. Cheryl was a young wild child and hung around Argy's. She knew about the courthouse plan and those involved, which led to her gruesome death.

@@incognito6535 Hey Incog Nito, I was born in the Brown County hospital in Georgetown in 1957. Lived in Felicity until the 80's. I used to hang out at Argys quite a bit around the time of the courthouse fire, too bad the courthouse lost a bit of its charm after the fire damage.Was their another big fire some years later across the street that burned a lot of store fronts as well. I remember Cheryl Fossyl and used to party with her hanging around the dairy Isle in Bethel, good times.It was disturbing to hear of her death.Has anyone ever charged and punished for this crime? Rest in peace Cheryl Fossyl...

My ex back in the day had a few to many... and ended up starting the other fire across the street. . He stood outside and was just watching it all go down drunk as a skunk. I miss thoes days though.. back when all 3 bars were open .. So many memories. . So many friends are gone now.. Xoxo

@@shirl0955 Please see my post above! After the parade i spoke of, we all got together at some old farm outside of town, for dinner, music and "adult beverages". I have no idea where the place was, I just remember that the still on the aforementioned float was really brewing whiskey, so the adults all had a good ol' time!!
