@@brianbadonde9251 because he got a few things off in MY hood yet I still respect the guy and proud of him for not getting sucked into gangs and bettering himself? Sure... if you say so..🙄
This man is a person who gives off Good Vibes. He's not trying to act all hard and glorify where he is from he is just taking you on a trip down memory lane while being humble.. hope nothing but the best for this man and his future
Great video! Thank you. I'm a middle-aged white guy from upper middle-class San Diego. Watching you describe your neighborhood as well as your childhood has been so cool. I really appreciate the respect you show for your history. For better or worse, most people tend to associate with people "like them" and it's a shame. You have educated me on things I would not likely have ever learned on my own. Keep up the great work.
Lol my husband is Mexican, when we first started dating I was shocked at how hard and long he’d work everyday and then come not tired at all! He gets up at 4:00 am and gets back as late as 10 pm , most days he gets back at 7:00 and then he wants to go out and he NEVER COMPLAINS! He’s never once complained about working he loves to work! He owns his own business putting rebarb in high rise buildings. So he isn’t sitting behind a desk. Yeah I cuffed him real quick!!
I really appreciate you guys making this video, i grew up in Boyle heights, Ramona gardens. Im deployed to Iraq right now and watching this video made me happy, gave me that nostalgic feeling, im proud of where i come from. Can't want to get home. Thanks again homies 🙏
@@meat. Although It may seem shitty to some, It's my home, I can say that I'm not a product of my environment, but I'll always be proud of it and I won't lose sight of where I come from.
I grew up with David, he’s talking to my uncle at the beginning (the dude on the street next to his house walking the dog). My uncle recently passed away in that house. Crazy to see this video, brought back some pretty crazy memories.
You never care for him stop it REST IN PEACE MI IDOLO HES A Legacy. nobody's take that away from him nobody care for him nobody even understand what happen ur aunt she killed him and now you commenting on this she kick him out the house when he had a will you just turn. Consuelo house into a college rental shmmm bad people like you shouldn't call him ur uncle cuz u was not there to help him
This man is very well spoken, and you can tell he is well educated and knowledgeable about the history of his neighborhood and VALUES it. I felt like I was watching an educational film. Respect to him
Melissa born and raised in Boyle Heights ... I dropped out from Hollenbeck J. H. S but eventually got back on track. I am proud to say I have an education ( A. A, B. A and working on my M. A) and proud to say I'm from Los Angels. Stay positive Melissa , stay safe and stay on track . Many blessings from Texas 💜💜💜🙏
This is my fave one so far, this dude is great! Not just yelling a whole load of incoherent bravado/noise into the camera lol but top notch, clear, easy to watch and entertaining information being eloquently translated! Really enjoyed this, would love to see another one, if possible :)
@@eddycarpenter8989 i am mexican, i was born in the u.s minutes from where my family is from which is tijuana but i know the culture and spanish is definetly my first language i dont speak english as much i also lived in México first before moving to San Diego so i know México and my parents culture because i was never in the streets..but all the cholos from u.s who proclaim themselves mexican are just a joke to me. They dont know anything about México or have never even been there lol
Anybody that was born and raised in east la as that’s what I call it I don’t call it BH ANYWAY EVERYONE IN EAST LOS KNOWS THEIR EAST LA HISTORY LIKE HOMEBOY HERE WHICH I GIVE LOTS OF RESPECT FOR BEING VERY PROFESSIONAL AND EDUCATIVE. But live even two years itself and east LA AND YOU WILL BE BOMBARDED WITH COLTURE WISDOM STREET SMARTS AND RESPECT FOR YOURSELF AND OTHERS ME AS A 6 year old I used to go to Sheridan elementary and ditch to the arcades donut shops walk all the way to Garfield hs Roosevelt’s hs hollenbeck ms what I’m trying to say everyone in east la roams all over the city that u learn real quick about everyone every place every hood. I LIVED IN STATE ST SHERIDAN ALSO ON BREED ST NEXT TO BANK OF AMERICA AND BACK THE BIG BUY NOW A WALGREENS INFRONT OF SHERIDAN ELEMENTARY MAN THISE WERE THE DAYS
His assessment of the projects infrastructure being very similar to the inside of the jails being a reason why people from the hood feel comfortable in the pen is spot on 👌 ....dude is very wise, intelligent, and knowledgeable....best hood vlog I've seen by far!
Yeah, I understand completely. I was born in Chula Vista and even though I didn't grow up there, I grew up in a border town and I knew not to go into the park whenever I was notified and could also read the "writings on the wall" to understand what was going on. Living in a border town means lots of drug trafficking and gangs but I never actually saw any of that but at one point I had a bodyguard with me when I attended middle school and I could sense people watching out for me because I never caused trouble so nobody bothered me. My dad was also born in sinaloa, where the drug cartel and el chapo was born but that's a different story altogether that has shaped the person I was growing up. But regardless, I plan on making the move to downtown L.A. in the near future because it is the most affordable place in California you can have but regardless, I am grateful for this video because if you don't have California blood running through you and understand how things work in the hoods and all that, you could get into a lot of trouble. I know how to navigate California and sense where I'm supposed to go and not go. It's basically all about respect. Gangs are basically tight knit people trying to survive and taking care of their families. You don't question anything that they're doing and mind your own business. You are responsible for yourself and only yourself. If you do eventually end up going to the wrong neighborhood accidentally, a gang member will politely tell you that you are in the wrong place and leave and you should do it fast with quiet, no questions asked. If you hesitate or start asking questions, you could or not get killed, depending on who you're talking to. It's a very easy concept to understand. Just follow the rules of the hood and there won't be any problems. If you start something, rest assured, you won't be the one finishing it.
*I love the story about the guys dad stealing a soda when he was kid and the store owner giving him another, then telling him not to worry about it... THAT'S how you get a loyal customer for life!*
I'm an Irish girl from Canada and I'm so interested in this. I think the world is taking notice of the the Chicano culture, especially in L.A. with more movies coming out there is more of an audience for it. This documentary showed more and answered so many of my questions than anything else that I watched... ever. Great job on this project!
Thanks you should come visit it is considered a bad neighborhood but it’s full of great people and full of culture and history. I used to bring all my Marine buddies who were from all over the country home to my house for weekend and show them around.
Born and raised in Inglewood and South Central but there's just something about East L.A. and Boyle Heights that's unsurpassed! It has to be the balance of deep culture.. I'm a 44yr old trokero now and I love when I have deliveries anywhere in East L.A and Boyle Heights... It's great to view material and narrated by someone who knows what they're talking about. I was also a tagger back then and never met Chaka personally but yes he is a legend. I remember getting chased and jumped in the panic zone off the 10fwy back in 1990 by some gangsters who caught us tagging and called us scribblers!😂.... Damn good video bro
The guy who is doing the tour is really nice to listen to. IDK why, I think its his voice and mannerisms. He is so calm and knows what he is talking about. Its nice to hear him recall so many fond memories of his childhood.
Cheeto Residue it’s not that far from Rosemead literally just go down Cesar Chavez till u get to Rosemead and then it’s all asians I just moved here it’s lame nun but straight asians im one of the only Hispanics around here
@T A - you wouldn't understand but Mexican/Americans would hardly given the right to higher education so the walkouts began in several schools. Students demanded better education, civil rights, and mostly the decease of racism. If I recall correctly. I was a baby. But I remember my sisters. My parents being scared for their participation and mind you we are white. We saw no color just friends of different shades.
I lived on Mott and Eagle for 20 years and man this brought so many good and bad memories! I wasn't from a gang but I used to get down with vatos from Evergreen and White Fence all damn the time! Got some good stories growing up in Boyle Heights. Thanks for this upload bro! 👍
HoodVlogs this the best one I've ever seen and the Homie is so down to earth! This one is DEFINITELY A platum hit!!!!! Keep up the good work 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥(I have to make this point...all of your videos are the truth but this one is my favorite one.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was born and raised in Lincoln Heights (still live here). I'm always driving through Boyle Heights too and enjoyed learning about the history.
Much respect to you. I grew up in city terrace and I ways drive through Boyle heights whenever I visit the area. Pretty cool stuff. Keep it up brother!!✊
Such a great episode. All the info and history sucked us right in. Great work on a compelling piece. I watched this with my wife and son, and we were all like, wow! we just learned a lot about an area of LA we didn't really know much about!
Awesome interview... Something like this I could watch all day everyday and this is the type of video u want to pass on for others to see... Great job!
Always great learning more about Boyle Heights. My grandfather moved here from Mexico in 1910. The Italians were here also at one time. Lan Franco street is named after a famous Italian American also and gangster Mickey Cohen grew up in boyle heights too. Look into the neighborhood connection with the olympic auditorium because in the 1930s and 40s boyle heights had a lot of fighters boxing out of it. Thanks for this video and I look forward to more.
@K Will true....but that doesn't change my point. compared to the east coast, the whole of California has Mexican history.....obviously there are differences, just like there are between Orlando Puerto Ricans and New York Puerto Ricans, or Orlando Puerto Ricans and Miami Cubans, but they're all Carribean latinos just like in California theyre all Mexican. you probably see all the differences because you are used to all the Mexicans being the dominant latino group, but on the East Coast Mexicans are few and far between compared to Puerto Ricans/Dominicans/Cubans
Billy The Kid I was born and raised in southern Cali all over LA and SB county now I’m a truck driver and deliver all over Texas and Houston is a big city but it’s no where near as big as SoCal hood wise
I agree South Houston, more of the South East (Greater East End/Third Ward/Fifth Ward) pretty ghetto , but I think South West Houston ( Sharps Town/ China Town / Belleair) is the worst part of Houston.
@@TheJoe89jan My man. I was born and raised on the East Coast in Boston and live in Houston now. I'm not Hispanic, but if you live long enough you'll realize theres real n%%%as everywhere. I've been to Cali..my wife is Mexican and raised in L.A. Real recognize real, never sleep on someone elses hood. People work and survive the best way they can wherever it is.
DAMN MY BOY THIS SHIT GOT ME HOOKED THE FIRST MINUTES ITS FIRME REMEMBERING WHERE WE ALL STARTED FROM THUMBS UP MANDATORY!! MUCH LOVE PERRO KEEP DOING YOUR THING👍🤜👌👊
He lived in the house infront of me on 8th street. My dad and him hung out and I live infront of the liquor store where they had his wanted sign and the street was shocked when they found out who he was

I grew up in Boyle Heights and my grandma lived in Romona Gardens. I also went to school in Romona Gardens. I crossed the bridge everyday walking to school. I felt almost as if we shared the same experiences, places, sights, sounds. You showed what is to me, Home. Thank you for this great doc. I'll be watching more. 💗
This guy gaved really good knowledge speach for the neighborhood he really new what he was saying ..💯💯 He knows every part of the history of the neighborhoods you can see he grew up in the 80s. IM FROM THE 90S....
Great video!!! The landmarks are beautiful. Please make another. As a guy from the Bay Area I would have never known anything from these beautiful neighborhoods.
I grew up in Boyle heights and now live in Colorado. Lots of great memories from my crazy youngster days. I went to hollenbeck junior high and Roosevelt high.
I really enjoyed this video. About Boyle Heights in less than 30 minutes than I've ever did in the 13 years I've been living in LA. A big thank you to Ronin, he is very intellectual, articulate, and very knowledgeable on his hood of Boyle Heights. Thank you so much.
Video very well done, so informative. This man spoke very nicely, no cursing, and that's much appreciated. Like his braids, super cool...he should make more videos and he should get paid for doing this. He seems like a super nice dude!!
