I was wondering what is so addictive about this channel, for me it seems to be how empathetic and devoid of judgement Peter comes across. Faced with some people who are being ignored, judged and written off, Peter appears to be open to learning about their struggles when even their own governments can't/won't. Incredible journalism from a real human perspective.

I started my teaching career in East New York on Shepherd Ave between Blake and Dumont, about 10 minutes for Cypress. Was an education for me for sure. A lot of obstacles those kids face, but also a tremendous amount of resilience and talent amongst them. Honestly, the talent shows always blew me away. My first year I idiotically left my purse with my Iphone and about $60 in cash on a bench in the Shepherd Ave subway station. When I realized what I had done, I came back to the station and asked the attendant if anyone had turned in a purse, and there it was waiting for me. A lot of good people living in very tough conditions.

Your approach to interviewing people as an open minded student really shows when people open up and share their message compared to any other time they've seen someone behind the camera with an agenda, an angle for self gain instead of trying to connect people of all walks of life and share the message of peace and hope

Nobody in a wheelchair, no homeless people anywhere in this video. It's like they have someone come clean up the place before they shoot the video. Women on a bench, all made up, no wrinkles in their clothes, full make up, lookin' good. Brothers spitting philosophical, using words like 'frivolous'. No gunshots, no sirens, no nothing in this video.

Living in the Projects is a gift and a curse. It's affordable housing for people that need it. It was a close nit community. The village raised the kids. I'm a 80's baby. Summer time projects was one of the funniest places to be. We played outside all day and made up games. We were very creative and innovative. Fights happened but we were good the next day. On the downside was the violence and oppression. The strong minded and strong willed will find a way out. It's meant to help you get on your feet and get out of there. I'm not from New York. But this is "Projects" across the US.

I was born in East New York/ Bushwick area. We lived in a 3 family brownstone which my grandparents owned we are very traditional Italians, even had a goomba living with us who I thought was my uncle. The first floor tenants were a black couple who ran a barber shop out of the store front in the same building. My parents left me with these wonderful people all the time, a barbershop with old black men who put up with a blond pigtailed brat..me. My grandfather discovered the barber stabbed to death one morning. The violence of the neighborhood was just like now. We moved to Rockville Centre within a month and my grandparents sold. @@BIGPIE3333 I think that opinion is more or less delusional or misinformed. Better housing would involve a better credit score, having a job paying a certain amount for at least 6 months and also having the capital to complete a move after having traveled to another place and secured a new job. Many of them dont even have a car or $1000 dollars in the bank. I dont think you know anything about the people who live in projects and I wonder how many times you have just driven to some new state and started a new life. When I see people talking about crime now, I keep thinking that none of them can really be from new york cause they don't seem to know what it was like to live in NYC in the 90s

@@OXHAMMERSTONE_NYC true, the kids today have a way out, and have more resources than we did back then. You couldn't even walk the streets alone to school or take the city bus with out risk of being robbed or jumped. So many of us had to click up. Now its more quite and kids have RU-vid and all sorts of social apps to help them make it out and learn new trades skills etc. -Then again with the new gang structures etc I don't really know how it is now, I'm not there feeling the vibes.

@@OXHAMMERSTONE_NYC exactly. Homicides in the 70s/80s/90s would hit 1550-2000+ annually.

Thanks for sharing. I grew up in Cypress Hills, East NY Brooklyn. I still go back to visit some family here and there. We didn't grow up in the projects so I don't know exactly where this is, but it has to be just minutes from where I grew up. It was a rough upbringing.

Mitchell straight-up said so many things I align with, damn! We need more genuine people who care not for their image in other's eyes, but move true to one-self, strong with integrity. The more people on this level, the better the society. So many of our youth are in need of proper guidance and I know for a damn fact that's not going to come from social media or public schooling. We need real people, real leaders, to be role models and do what is right. Actions speak louder than words, and all these politician's words shallow as hell. Bless up to all those enduring the trials of life, keeping positive, and spreading the love. We need that energy now more than ever!

Thanks to rap culture I think people in the hood care about image more than reality. Go to hoods here in Florida and you see a lot of nice cars parked outside dirty not taken care of houses for example

I love that social media was brought up near the end. People are finally starting to really understand how bad social media is for people, mostly youth. It's so dangerous to have instant uncensored access to the world at such a young age. When I was younger my parents could easily protect me from things that I didn't need to know at that age. I was able to be a kid... It's just not the same anymore.

We grew up in different worlds I guess.. I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, and easily found out about the grittier side of life. There was plenty of access to multiple media even then, albeit a slower process. Porn mags, niche zines, true crime books, heavy metal/punk music, etc etc.

Devils advocate: How does teaching a kid to live in a sheltered version of the world help them to function in the real world? Wouldn't it be better for them to see things how things really are while they are at the most receptive age for your guidance?
