It's time for our babies to get split from their moms and some will leave for a life in another homestead. So far Two of our young boys have left and two to go, Girls for now aren't such a worry but we would like to reduce the amount of animals as our land is limited. Make sure you subscribe to follow our daily lives in this farm!
Hey to everyone!!
We are two young adults, Despina 22 and Deivids 23 renovating an old farm house from 1817 in Latvia.
Everything in and out of our house has been done by ourselves with no hired help.
DIY is going to apply to nearly everything in our house. Our budget is tight and that has made us appreciate every “ugly” part of this house and turn it into something new and beautiful.
We give new life to things that others would throw away!
In this journey we are not alone! We are starting up our little Farmily:
5 Goats & 6 Goat Babies
3 Sheep & 3 Sheep Babies
4 chickens
1 Rooster
and 3 Geese
Oh yeah and our cat Ivi
Despite our daily problems we are two young people full of joy and happiness, ready to start a new crazy chapter in our life. It wouldn’t be fair to keep this fun just for us!
That’s why we want YOU to also be part of our Farmily!!

You could sell some of the girls too if you intend to keep only a small herd. They will want to breed every season as is their nature. You are doing your very best and looking after them so well but it will become overwhelming to breed all of them once a year.

Plus, they don't have the room for that many. You can't get so attached to all your animals or you won't be able to get rid of them. I think they should sell all the babies and keep with the 3 mommy's. Same with the sheep. To much cost in feed (pellets) and everything is so expensive right now.

Here in our goat farm we do not keep intact males! We rent or borrow a buck! We then know exactly when they get bred and do not have to deal with those stinky boys!! Any males on our place is a wether! Life is much easier. It you want to keep the boys put up a substantial fence! I hope you don't have issues feeding fresh cut grass to your goats, it can cause unhealthy fermentation in their digestive system. It needs to dry out first.

A much more solid pen for the males .. with the electric fencing at the top and bottom on there side .. would work .. and maybe keep them at the far end of the field. Not so close to the girls ... Now when u move the baby male 🐐🐐🐐 kids the little house is going to be very crowded... Ino it's hard but have u looking for a selling market .. they pay U. By Pound .. goats 🐐🐐 here are high right now and there mostly for breeding .. there almost $5. A lb ... Ur little ones look really healthy .. and it's always good to rotate .. just some options for U .. sheep are looking like they need to be sheered here soon ... There's another money maker u can sell there wool ..... and yes sheep will eat and just keep moving lol never lift there head 😂 always know ur doing what's best for U and them . U take great care and pride in what u do and we love to watch as u do .. if no one has told U. U BOTH ARE ENOUGH 💕 ur amazing and are doing a great job . Now a question: what do you do with all the goats? Except that they eat a lot, aren't they milked and don't you use them as a source of meat? So what are they good for? Okay, they're fun to look at, but they don't really do anything, other than bare the grass. And consider: the more of them you have, the faster they will eat the meadow bare. My grandma had 2 goats that were milked every day and in the spring there were little kids that all ended up in the pan. That may sound brutal, but that's the circle of life. I know that once you give an animal a name, you won't eat it anymore...I couldn't either. But keeping a herd of goats will eventually get you into trouble... lack of feed, lack of space, disease... at least the sheep still give wool.

But they are milking the goats. Despina said at the end of the video and they have another video in which they show how they started to milk Marshmallow (the first goat that gave birth).

@@minime7375 Oh! That thing about milking the goats i didn't hear. But I tought this was only a test with milking Marshmallow. It's a damn tiring job milking so many goats and it takes quite a bit of time too. Besides, they would have shown us that in another video for sure. And what do you do with all that milk? Goat's milk isn't for everyone... making cheese?

You’re making good decisions to sell some of your animals. You don’t have the acreage, shelter, or reliable fencing to keep them, sorry to say. Plus, they are an expense of time, money, and energy; and they take up a lot of your RU-vid content. I’d like to see you make some of the home improvements you had talked about a few videos ago, plus shelter for your tractors, car, and so on. But, I understand, life is a journey, and some things are experimental, some things are just for fun.

This would be sad for me too but I think that farm animals aren't really meant to be like pets, like a cat or dog. Sorry if anyone disagrees. I would get too attached also. I'm not a farmer but If they're not going to be bred or used in any other way, maybe a couple of girls is fine to keep so no problems there with too many animals on a small place. That is a lot of work for just two people. If you get more animals, you'll end up with the same issue. I wish you good luck with this one.

Hi Dessy and David, decision making about stock is not easy. You know its better for them and you know they have gone to a good home. Milking is the next stage, always wear the same jacket,smell and sight. I tried to milk my aunts goat,she wouldn't give me the milk. I put my aunts scarf and cardigan and she let me milk her. It was so 😁 funny. The grass is greening up so fast,I'm looking forward to spending a few months at home as I've missed clouds and rain. The agricultural shows are a great place to get or sell stock. Also a great place to show off your animals too. Stay safe,thanks for the update,have a good day.

Your farm is part home and part business, it is hard being the driven business person when it comes to managing the animals. However, you do it all with kindness and consideration. It is not good for anyone producing and holding more mouths than your land can feed, so choices must be made. Remember in situations like these, the choice you make is always the right one at the time, do not look back, keep moving forward. Above all, keep fit and healthy for everyone's sake.

Farm animals can be an issue trying to keep genders separated. All farms and ranchers have this problem. You have to do what you have to do. You've put a lot of time and effort into fencing, so sorry.

It was so funny when Deivid was talking over by the boys. The male goat was just staring at him as he was talking. It was so funny. So sad to see Charlie boy leave but you have to do what you have to do when you have certain animals. You have plenty left Dessy that love you. Y’all are so good to your animals.

Goats are powerful animals. I remember at our local zoo they had an animal enclosure designed where children could get closer to some farm animals. In the goat enclosure there was a male goat, he had a hardwood rail about 20 cm by 5cm thick at head height. Being bored the goat used to head butt this rail and he had broken it!

I like tuning into what you two are doing it's all was interesting. Well the two lonely boys would like to have fun two with the babies. unless the naughty boys will hurt the baby boys. You got to spoil the big boys just to get them to behave. Despina the music is so amazing like a silent film, what talent. You could have breading sheep and sell babies with some wool that any one can use. It's sad but it's better to sell them to let other families enjoy the babies. sheep are so much work it's better just to stick with goats.

Yes male goat is a buck. Sheep male is ram. Sheep need woven wired fence as they cant feel the zapps of electric.

You might want to see the YT channel the Hollar homestead, he makes a cage on wheels that he pulls. It’s made out of angle iron and cattle panels. That might be a solution to keep the bucks in. It’s also on Justin Rhodes YT channel.

I see others are also interested in a goat “gym” to help them get rid of all that energy. I’m thinking multiple-sized boxes, connected to look like a miniature hill. And maybe add an old slide to come down from the boxes.

I have seen that some people put a kind of apron on the males which hets in the way of them trying to mate - you might want to look into this 👍🏻

I have used the ram apron on my young rams and it does work, but it is really not a permanent solution. Where the apron attaches around the animal will cause wear and rub eventually and the apron needs to be removed so that the area can heal up. It is much better to just have a smaller SOLID pen for the rams. You may end up feeding the rams hay, but it works better than constant escapes.

If possible it is really best to have a SOLID fence with electric on the inside to keep them off of the regular fencing. Another solution is to use young rams and bucks and then sell them after each season. Hoppity will be a fine companion for the male goat. He won't be picked on (other than maybe at first) after a while they will be fast friends just like the two boys are now.

I like how you are vegetarian and support meat industry (sort of) by breeding and selling the animals... Also really "do and be dif" way to deal with their "misbihaving" is just get rid of them..they are animals, they are living beings with own integrity and nature, they are not here to entertain you or show you affection or "obey" you in any way... and you should take care of them when you decided you need so many

I don't understand why you have to put them in side just because it's raining?? I thought they'd survive fine in the rain??? Not a complaint just wandered. I've never kept Goats so was just wandering are they supposed to be kept in our of these rain till a certain age.

They hadn't finished the fence and they didn't want to work with electricity while it was raining. The animals would be outside if the fence was working.
