I played with a girl years ago and she showed me a method for caving by placing torches on only one side of the caves. Left mean “left the base” and right meant “the right way back” I still use this method today.

@@michellem1465 me too! i always put torches in moderation like some on left or right depending wich way to go back, but when i found a Big Cave i always put 5 torches or so around the enterance to the tunnel i made from that cave so i dont get lost when i want to go back and dig straight up

Well I had two stacks of coal(as well as full iron armour and a diamond) but an enderman killed me and I couldn't find my stuff so I decided that trying to get more was a waste of time and stuck to the 17 that I immediately stole from the village I was in.
i'm a female, and i have used my fair share of torches in my day, but not that many. my brother who plays minecraft is also very non-adventurous and tries to actually avoid risky behavior. so, moral of the story: no need to start a gender war over minecraft.
A tip when exploring is to only make torches on the left hand side to make a trail leading to the way you came in. Also dig upwards to the surface every now and then and build landmark monuments to mark the site from a distance. That way you don't get lost.

Honestly, as a girl, I wish this was true. I mean, sometimes I use the stair technique instead of digging straight down, but I always tend to forget to bring any source of light whatsoever. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I end up having to go all the way back to my house after finding a cave and realizing that I forgot to bring any torches.

My problem is that I forget to empty my inventory before I go mining, so so I end up taking an inventory full of cobblestone, saplings, and a practically dead wooden pickaxe instead of wood, water, and the normal things you would bring to a mining session. I'm pretty sure there have been times where I have literally forgotten to bring any pickaxes whatsoever.

@@plungin8157 a joke that only applies 5 years back when the game wasn't as widespread. It's common knowledge that for some reason girls play less videogames than boys. So if the game was smaller, it means less girls were playing it, son the demographic might match. But not in the present day. So this joke is inapropiate for the time. I'm a girl and I dig down as well. Staircasing fills up my inventory with too much unnecessary stuff. I carry around like 20 torches and absolutely no wood or coal , I just use full brightness.
I'm a guy but I get easily scared (hence why I play on Peaceful) I've been on and off Minecraft and very inexperienced, at least the newer versions, and the mobs sort of terrify me. Since I have anxiety, worrying about losing my stuff to mobs kind of makes me panic and I rely a lot on coordinates to reach back home. This is just a matter of people who get scared easily or people who don't
Can confirm, the Keep Inventory inventory option has relieved a lot of stress and discouragement i felt while playing. The wonderful thing about minecraft is that it gives these options for all types of players.

Hmm yes. Sexism presented as a joke. In my opinion, the best way to carry/place torches is to take a stack with you, but also take 16 or 32 logs, depending how long you want to go caving for. When you need more torches, craft a stack of sticks at a time. Carry a stack of coal at all time. This saves inventory space in the end for more resources. Play at full brightness and place torches on one side every 15 or so blocks so you can find your way back out. Edit: What the hell is with these replies? The main topic of this text is what I think the ideal way to use/make torches, yet people are bashing each other.
Some girls don't do that but I've seen so many people absolutely fill up there caves with torches and it's weird, I play with full brightness and like 7 pickaxes and a water bucket, no more no less

I taught my 21 years old sister how to play Minecraft and none of what you had in the video applied to her. In fact she played better than I did in some cases.
Imo the way those memes usually work, at least the funny ones, is it has girls doing something completely normal, then the boys doing something super ridiculous and acting like the girls are the weird ones. I use torches, I admit, because I don't like that the caves are dark, and too to prevent mobs to spawn; *in the beginning.* But when you already have many resources like glowstone or slabs, or can handle with mobs in the caves, you can forget about the torches. PD: I don't put torches so closer, I leave like 9 blocks between each torch.
I use torches to navigate. As I explore caves, all torches go on the left wall of the path I take. When it is time to go home I just travel with the torches to my right side and I'll eventually get back to the entrance. Sometimes there are weird places, but it always works out in the end. So far...
I bring like 2 picks, a stack of torches and 32-54 logs, so i can make more torches/picks if i need to (flint&steal too, to get rid of unwanted items/block if i need space)

I only bring wood with me so I can craft torches inside caves, if I bring that much already crafted torches I'd have no space for other blocks that I've mined, and not enough wood for when my picks broke. It happened once and I had to throw away a lot of redstone to make way for my diamonds...bad times.
I like to not waste materials, and take challenges at the same time. Craft an endless supply of stone swords but no shields cuz shields weren’t around when I first played survival. Infact, all worlds were finite.
if you remember the days of blocking attacks with a sword and surviving fall damage simply by blocking with a sword while falling, you're an oldcrafter.
