In this video we work on the functionality to display and keep track of the race and lap times and test them through debug code. We also create and use a macro to convert the float value used in our race to a timer-style format in text format.

You can use one Append and just add pins to it unless there is a reason not to that I'm unaware of. It works fine in the log.

Calling % a percentage will be super misleading for people without a programming background, because they may believe it's really a percentage and not a modulo division.

I used the built-in function "Time Seconds to String" to print the race time instead of having to do all of this macro.

I did not assign a float track with a value of (999, 999). Too arbitrary! I just increment a float every .01 seconds using a timeline loop, and divide by 100! Thanks for all of the knowledge provided in such a short length of time! There is so much you can glean from the little tidbits, on a video over 5 years old!

@@SoloWing88 late response, but a timeline on loop (didn't need a float track) -> actual race time variable +1 -> set actual race time (this adds 1 every 1 second through update timeline execution) -> divide actual race time by 60 (not 100 whoops) -> use time seconds to string (node available in current UE builds) -> set race text

I think there is a tiny mistake. You don't get "milliseconds" with x100, but "hundredths" (it helps to not be an american maybe :D ). Thanks for your tutorial !

my timer doesnt stop after my race is finished. it also doesnt take my lap times

MxBshr, Hello there, did the timer work for you ? Mine only display 0 all the time and i don't understand why, i follow every step correctly and rewatch this tutoriel over again. Did you do something to TimeToText macro ? Thanks

my timer doesn't actually show for some odd reason even though i followed the tutorial step by step. the timer doesn't actually work. can any help me figure out why?

make sure your text that is outputted by the time converter macro is plugged into the print text node and also make sure your appended string is plugged into the outputs inside of the macro blueprint

For those still looking to add a "racing-style" timer to their project. I have created a custom actor component that will output this format automatically.
