Sorry I spammed you with so many questions. I'm really happy for you :) Your story is really inspiring. For anybody dealing with mental illness recovery (getting to a better place) is the goal, the hope. Recovery wasn't easy for you and it isn't an easy process for anybody so the fact that you were able to do it is something you should be proud of.

I have a related self-help story.......At age 8 I was very unhappy and troubled. One night I woke up and heard snoring that I realized was not real. When I tried to ignore it the snoring got louder and louder. Then I started hearing the music I'd heard earlier on the radio, and that also got louder if I tried to ignore it and go to sleep. Different types of music continued to intrude on my thoughts for about 6 months. I couldn't concentrate at school. Finally I was able to suppress the music by concentrating on a mental image of a fireplace fire. I had peace in my mind again. Then I started thinking witches were reading my thoughts and planning to harm me. I felt that the only way to escape harm was to do as they wished. For example, I would walk with my feet far apart, or with my hands in my pockets, because the witches would harm me if I didn't. Finally I was able to avoid control by the witches by using alternative protection of my own choosing -- If the witches wanted me to whistle I would snap my fingers instead -- things like that. So twice I was able to overcome abnormal thinking without ever telling adults what was wrong with me. That was very empowering, and I no longer feared mental illness.

thats a great story and you are really brave and strong to have faced your fears. I hope you still went to see a specialist though, maybe there was an underlying reason for that. love xx
