Thank you Cathy. I'm not a Nurse or studying to be a Nurse, but rather a 59 yr male who is scheduled to have a TURP soon and your information was very helpful, thank you again.
I had TURP done on 10/02/2023 the best thing I have done. My other doctors were just giving me pills for years. They just about destroyed my bladder. I was having to use catheters sometimes to pee. Just find a good surgeon who knows what they are doing. That is what I did was to find a good doctor, who told me what I needed. I pee so good now, I wonder why they made me suffer for so long. Pills do not work they did nothing for me.
agreed, had this procedure about 4 months ago now. Glad to be off the pills (Flomax and Avodart) and zero major issues. PSA test scheduled for next week will be interesting to see what the reading is; pre-surgery my PSA was 14.5 even with both pills.
It’s great that you are getting more information on your upcoming surgery. It is a very common surgery, but there is definitely a recovery period and things to expect after the procedure. Here is a link to a website that provides reliable, good information about TURP: medlineplus.gov/ency/article/002996.htm. I hope your healthcare team takes excellent care of you and you have a speedy recovery. Take care. ❤️
A great Video here , At 65 I had the TURP 2 weeks ago, I consider it all a Success at this point, I was on Finasteride and Tamsulosin for 3.5 years and did not want to take it anymore, the day after surgery the irrigation catheter was removed and I was told to keep drinking water and walk the halls, a get peeing ! To my pain and Horror I could not Pee ! And I had to go Super Bad ! Could not pee, bladder measure said I had 851 ml in there, could not pee, they put another Catheter in and Bag on my Leg and expected Me to just head on Home, I said no, staying another night, was not Comfortable, went home next and was instructed how to pull catheter 7 days later, pulled catheter on day 6 due to a big Urge to Pee and I Peed !!! It was amazing !! a Bit of Red, but got better and better through the next Couple of days and nights, still 2 - 4 times a night until bladder gets settled I suppose, but peeing and feeling Great ! Morel of the Story, don’t panic after Irrigation catheter is Pulled ! Good Luck !
@@ray-sharp8563 They say it is the best modern medical procedure for BHP, I felt apprehensive also, I almost bailed Out but My Wife said No Your Not ! and She was Right, I am very glad I endured this procedure and I am Dealing with the 4 - 6 weeks recovery as this is tough as I am always doing some kind of fitness regiment, also Yard Work and chasing Our Grandkids, the Prostrate isn’t going to shrink itself, and will continue to grow, I didn’t want this Procedure at 75 - 80 … stay Strong and Stay fit ! You will be fine ! All the best !
Thank you doctor. But I have some questions. 58 years old, have been taking alphalytics for over 5 years. I felt terrible. The pressure was unchanged, but the head was spinning, the strength was lacking. A couple of times, when I tried silodosin, the worst of all molecules, I had to phone my wife to come pick me up, because I didn't recognize the way home!!! The latest generation alphalytics, tamsulosin, alfuzosin, silodosin, do not lower blood pressure, but cause dementia. It's not life, but survival. Miserable survival. For over 5 years, at every moment, I seriously thought I was dying. Furthermore, on a sexual level, tamsulosin and silodosin do not cause retrograde ejaculation but total anaejaculation. Also after a few months, you can't urinate. I do not know why. Maybe the prostate swells and prevents it from coming out? I don't know, but it's terrible. They are counterproductive. Since you urologists say that ejaculating frequently, it reduces the risk of prostate cancer by 30%. Isn't it a contradiction to prescribe something that completely blocks ejaculation? I mean, take silodosin or tamsulosin and you'll have a 30% greater chance of cancer? And in the meantime will you live worse than a stray dog, due to the extreme discomfort they cause? Is this to avoid having a surgery that takes about thirty minutes? Alphalytics are NOT candy! Better the resector, the laser, the steam, whatever you prefer, but not the alphalytics. I err?
I.REALLY LOVEEEEEEE THIS SIMPLE BUT SO AMAZING INFORMATION. ALSO, THE QUESTIONS AFTER THE LECTURE. I ANSWERED IT WITHOU5 LOOKING AT MY NOTES, IT MEANS I CAN UNDERSTAND AND REMEMBER THE LECTURE EASILY ❤❤❤THANK YOUUU
Thank you for the video, can you further explain the purpose/role of the catheter and its balloon? i am not currently studying to be a nurse, but am a high schooler interested in going into the pre-med route soon. these videos always catch my interest
The nurse observes an increased number of blood clots in the drainage tubing of a client with continuous bladder irrigation following a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). What is the best initial nursing action?-good a. Increase the flow of the bladder irrigation b. d. Measure the client's intake and output Administer a PRN dose of an antispasmodic agent Provide additional oral fluid intake
Yes those are in the Nervous System section. There are cards that provide an anatomy and physiology review towards the front end of that section, and eye/ear disorders are towards the back of that section.
