Had this procedure performed 10 days ago. Admissions at 9:45am, then to the surgical center for prep which included a thorough assessment of vitals and questions from nurses. Given three tylenol and another pill that I can't remember the name of; hooked up to the IV and then off to surgery. Given a spinal anesthetic which I think is preferred and sedation prior to the operation at 11:30am; wake up in recovery at 1:00 pm with catheter in place and continuous irrigation in place. Shuttled to the ward at 3 pm. Little discomfort really, no pain killers needed. Discharged two days post-op without a catheter once able to pass the pee test. :)

@@musicbox99 Completely Obstructed. I think TURP is the best way to go, The other ways are less effective. I had a friend who had the eurolift he said it was painful for awhile.

Just had my TURP last week, was able to pee 200 ml normally next day around 10am. The later did 650 ml, dark red. Painful urination. 9 days later, much less pain, but still painful, and I think I have UTI. Went last 2 days and hardly any output, gained 6 pounds, of fluid. After started taking kflex ( 500 mg) every 6 hours, am able to pee. Going to do lab work tomorrow. I still have to pee every 1-2 hours, day and nite, resumed Eliquis, since bleeding has stopped. Just a long slow recovery, the painful urination was unexpected, but per my doctor, normal. Guess she forgot to tell me, but I would have still had the procedure done.

I have never known someone who had a TURP that hasn't had major problems with it a few years down the road. I had Urolift,, that was ba enough, but I met an Urologist who also has the same problems and was coping with Cialis! Flomax wasn't mentioned but I had bad reactions to it. Cialis isn't covered by insurance!

Having done next week. Question for you. You mentioned the problems before surgery with urinating. You didn’t mention NOT being able to urinate at all at some point. I have been self catheter’ing for 6 months due to not being to urinate at all. Is that also one of the pre-surgery issues

I had my turp recently and it's been great...I piss well and a good amount and I can hold it with no discomfort for hours... And when I'm at the gym I don't feel that "I've gotta take a piss every five minutes feeling" is great... But... When I'm trying to shoot one into my girlfriend... Nothing's coming out... What's up with that... Because I don't recall my urologist, who was great, saying anything about not having any schlozz in the Canon... Any help on that? Great vid by they way. 👍

You were looking at PAE, did you get any further with it?
@bobbender5858
@bobbender5858 Год назад
@@stevetop5970 ….I did look into it. My urologist measured my prostate. The doctors who would have performed the PAE said my prostate wasn’t large enough. As a result,I pee a little more often than a younger man, but life goes on. If my prostate continues to grow,I’ll look into it again…Good Luck to you!!
@stevetop5970
@stevetop5970 Год назад
@@bobbender5858 Thanks I have too been looking into PAE. I have been in a bad way since we last spoke. I ended up not being able to pee and my kidneys were not draining down properly. The upshot of that was I have had to have a catheter put into my bladder, and it has to stay in place until I get an operation. I have been for a scan for PAE, but dont know if that will help me now, as my kidneys got damaged, so PAE might not be an option for me. Have to go back shortly when I get the results. For anyone reading this, if your kidneys dont drain down you will get a back flow of urine from your bladder into your kidneys, the pain is like being stabbed with a knife. DO NOT let it get to that stage, a catheter could save your life!
@bobbender5858
@bobbender5858 Год назад
@@stevetop5970 ..Wow !! You have really been through it. Maybe you should just get the turp, and end the issue. Recovery should only be a couple of weeks and you can get your health back. I don’t remember, are you in the UK or in the states ?
@stevetop5970
@stevetop5970 Год назад
@@bobbender5858 I am in the UK. Yes, I think it is probably the most sensible thing to do to get a turp, and be done with it. That said, the doctor said the turp might last 5 to 10 years, so at some point I would have to have it again. With the catheter in place I have to drink at least 2 litres of water a day, which is a lot of liquid for me.

Follow up to my TURP Surgery in June 20. So far it has not gone well. I have had terrible pain and continue bleeding, cannot urinate after 7 weeks, I am on anti-biotics for the next 30 days to try and stop infections that keep coming back. The bladder pain is horrible. I now wished I did not do a TURP surgery and chosen another method. Wearing a catheter for 20 days now. Miserable.

My husband said most embarrassing, humiliating thing he ever had done at the hands of the urologist who did not explain anything. All he said was going to ream you out. The scrub and other female thought they were funny and winked at me as they told him, "Don't worry, WE are going to get to know you real well". He said never again. No more medical procedures where exposed to opposite gender.
@ALKRANTZ
@ALKRANTZ Год назад
I can relate to your husband’s feelings, as I too feel uncomfortable having to be exposed to a female in that situation. When I had to have the catheter removed, I had to see a female nurse and was initially very uncomfortable about it. I said “Where’s the doctor?” and she said she was assigned the duty of removing the catheter. I asked her if she had done it before, and she said she had, and it turned out she was very capable and empathetic. She helped me expertly and professionally without any wisecracks, with little pain and lots of support. It’s a shame you had to have people who acted unprofessional in your situation. Just wanted to share that not all females are unprofessional like that, and they certainly would have deserved a reprimand.

why does it take a nurse to explain this. I wouldn't let a woman near me. Not that I would ever have this done
@robjworkshop5692
@robjworkshop5692 Год назад
Why shouldn't a nurse explain it? If they work / have experience in urology then what's the issue? As to not letting a urology clinician near you, who may just happen to be a woman, well, you need to get over that one... Never have this done? If you can't pee and end up with a constantly full bladder, with urine backing-up in the kidneys leading to bi-lateral hydronephrosis, as happened to me, then you'll end-up with kidney failure and be on dialysis inside 12 months, as the urologist told me - then a TURP will save your life. Just sayin'...
