By popular demand I have remastered my original video of Glasgow Queen Street back in October 1986. It contains classes ,47 and 37 locomotives, the 47/7 locomotives working with the push/pull sets and a MKII DBSO on the Glasgow - Edinburgh via Falkirk route and 47604 on an Inverness departure plus the 37's on the Oban/Ft.William routes.DMU class 101 feature on the local services to and from Falkirk and Dunblane. Much of the video has been improved, quality wise and I have also worked on the original mono audio to give a better stereo effect. I hope this version proves more popular than the original...

Lots of memories of this station from this time. I was always jealous of the trains pulled by the 37s as I was on the Waverley service to Falkirk High or the DMUs (class 101?) to Grahamston. If lucky the DMU driver would have the blinds open and you could see out the front. A fine way to enjoy a can of Lilt; a bag of Frazzles and a Bounty bar from the newsagents just outside. I remember the service as 13:08 but might be wrong. A control panel for the station from around this time is on display at Bo'ness Railway Preservation. Thanks for the nostalgia again. Diesel forever.🙂💛

Mark, still enjoying these videos. Each time I check back I keep hoping you have got your DVD player working again and your film of Waverley! Also interesting to note the Anglo Scottish trains with MK 2 air cons and Mk3s on the Glasgow Central video had battery operated tail lamps. The MK1 had a paraffin one. At Queen Street they were all still paraffin lamps. Again these were all Mk1s though.

By the way Mark the push pull sets weren't 27 powered in the way you decribed them. They were top and tailed with 27s on Pressure Vent mk2s until 47s mk2s and later mk3s and DBSOs came in. a small point. Great video BTW

Great footage, just one little correction though. Your caption at 6.03 states "47 714 "Grampian Region" trailing". It should read propelling from the rear, as a locomotive providing the driving force cannot be trailing. Same goes at 12.08

I needed to know why don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the unused abandoned underground stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock and that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers. A Stock Trains and also having 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it bigger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Train tunnel into a High-Speed train? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Train line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those 4 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 37 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project that is OK for London Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street and also make another brand new tunnel train station in Chingford could they extend the DLR? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo TD102KF, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and they can order Every 17 Octagon and Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique small no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 117MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 117MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 16 Tonnes for all of the 117MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are Told!! And please do something about these very important Professional ideas Please Prime Minister of England, the Prime Minister of Sweden, the Prime Minister of Germany, the Prime Minister of Italy, the Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.

Hello Mark. This is a wonderful video which brings back loads and loads of memories! I need to ask a big favour of you though. I am currently building a 1/76th scale model of Glasgow Queen Street in EM gauge, set in early Autumn 1988. The layout consists of the whole station area, a 12 ft cutaway section of Cowlairs incline and into hidden storage yards. The whole layout is 34ft long, with the last 10ft being hidden by a fascia, where I intend to mount photos of mine from back in the day and other written information. Having talked to the rest of the lads who are helping me build it, we would be honoured if you would give your permission to use your video on a playable loop, shown on a screen at the storage yard end of the layout. It's just that this would be too good an oportunity to show the public just what Queen St was like back in the 1980's. If you provide me with an email address, I can forward you some progress photos of the layout, which is due to be shown at the Macclesfield Model Railway exhibition for the first time in March 2019. Sounds a long way off, but the sheer scale of what we're building means that this will soon come around! If you are happy to let us use this video, we will ensure that you are credited as the filmaker by mentioning this on the front of the layout. BTW, I have absolutely no idea how to download anything from RU-vid, even if you were happy for us to do so, I may have to rely on a wee bit of your help if necessary. Kind regards Andy

I am trying to work out how to on gmail or you tube, do I send a private email so I can give my email address to you securely for more direct contact. It is very straight forward how to download a video from you tube and I will send you instructions once we can contact directly. Sorry for the technical hiccup at the moment. I really appreciate your interest in my video's and am only too pleased to oblige.........best regards for now.....Mark

How did you remaster it? I’d like to do the same with my 80s footage.
@spompey
@spompey 4 года назад
Hi Jake...I remastered the original footage by first transferring it onto a cd-r disc...Then it was transferred onto my PC copying all files and folders from the cd-r.....I used Movie Studio (Sony Vegas) platinum to re create the video into a slightly different resolution (1080 X 720) but rendered the video as widescreen. The quality was improved by correcting aspects such as white balance, audio and contrast. Really it is down to the software you use as to how you can improve on the quality and more importantly how you convert the vhs to digital format.I am still searching for a better way than the time consuming running the original video through a video player connected to a DVD recorder via scart and HDMI leads. I need to be able to directly record straight onto the PC as I believe this will also improve the quality. I have tried ROXIO software but it compresses the video too much, you could try that (It is quite cheap) but it may not be up to the quality you seek......Good luck and do let me know how things turn out....interested in seeing your footage as well....mine is slow coming purely down to the awkward transfer procedure and the wear and tear on my old trusty VCR (20 years old)......best regards.....Mark

Can someone fill me in on the tunnel portal to the right of the main running tunnel?
@ericpickles9616
@ericpickles9616 5 лет назад
Taken from the hidden glasgow forum "The bricked up tunnel had two tracks running into it and where used by freight trains at the goods station at Queen Street that closed on 6th January 1964. At that time there were 9 platforms at the station but when it was modernised in 1965 it was reduced to 7 even although Buchanan Street station was due to close the following year in November and it's services transfered to Queen Street. The blocked off tunnel ran only a hundred yards or so. It's reason was that Queen street was to cramped and as a result freight trains were limited to 14 wagons and the tunnel tracks where used for shunting backwards and forwards. The goods yard is now the station car park and taxi stance. I hope that answers your question."
@allanpeoples7410

Was that other tunnel ever used for trains?
@spompey
@spompey Год назад
Dear Allan There seems to be very little info on this portal. I know the tunnel is 999 yds long and is double track all the way. When I worked trains into this station many years ago (1979-1981) I did ask this question to a very senior Glasgow (Eastfield) Driver, who gave me the simple answer Yes....apart from that , that was all I got . There was a large tunnel collapse back in the 1800's, that may have something to do with it. More research is needed I think as this does seem to be elusive in the railway history archive...many thanks for the intriguing question....Best regards...Mark.

Your potted history of the Mk2F DBSOs is inaccurate - they never worked with Class 27s. The Class 27s (classified 27/1 and 27/2) worked "top-and-tail" with rakes of Mk2As from about 1974 until 1979, when the Class 47/7s took over. With the higher power of Class 47s, the "top-and-tailing" of Class 27s was no longer necessary to maintain the timings between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley: therefore, the Mk2F DBSOs were converted from Mk2F BSOs to work "push-pull" with the Class 47s.
