Hulle is in Wildernis. Mense van die kus verstaan nie so mooi van braai nie. Die hoender wat verbrand is en geen pap of mielies nie laat dit so half lyk ek kan amper huil.
Glad you guys liked it. The extra's (Salads Breads etc) you get with it also varies from area to area so its a fun way for South Africans from difrent areas to get together and share.
Glad you liked the braai, we braai some lambtjops and boerewors and bread with tomato, onion and chease, its realy delicious. You must try it on your next visit. And go up Table Mountain, its beautifull
+Houws Houlinou Yep first time this Capie ever heard about pap with meat was in my twenties when I visited the northern part of South Africa for the first time. Couldn't believe that breakfast food gets eaten with meat!
awwwwww guys that was soooo close to a real braai soooo close thumbs up for trying but a real boere braai has sooo much nore to offer but next time you will own a braai
One small error, the amount of meat that gets cooked is much more than depicted. The average braai will accommodate atleast 4 people who will consume: 1 Kebab 1 200g+ steak 1 200g+ chop 1 100g+ wors 1 toasted cheese and tomato sandwhich 1 serving of 'krimmel pap' and tomato and onion relish 1 serving of potatoe salad 1 serving of garden salad, but its not important. Food is almost always accompanied with beer/brandy or wine. That is the difference between a Barberque and a Braai.
I'm south african and I think these folks are more from the cape region and braai slightly different from like where I'm from up north we use pap in our Braais and never marinade our wors lol lol
Well guys ill invite you to my guesthouse soon in Hartenbos near Mosselbay, im opening one there next year so just mail me if you guys want to come stay there, plus ill show you guys some real nice food true South African style
My eye twitched every time they said "sausage" instead of Boerewors. And with a "normal" braai your plate must be 95% full of meat and 5% whatever else you want.
Braai is braai and not bbq. They look very close but not the same. I enjoy both. Its like I gave some people boerewors and you could tell they did not even like it at all but some of us had a ball. The rest go figure or keep on believing what the rest of you believe. You more than likely might not learn that anywhere. I told some people you cant keep cooking pap the same way. They thought I was loosing it and the rest is history.
Samuel & Audrey no I think the reason baierandom is laughing is because braaing is the actual verb. When you braai meat it means you are cooking it. So basically you said "cook some braai" .. that means cooking cooking. The appropriate thing to say in this case would be "braai some meat". Not that it really matters :). Glad you enjoyed it.
Actually, BARBECUE is many things, a piece of equipment, an event, various cooking techniques, but not a sauce,,hence barbecue SAUCE,,,,sauce FOR barbecue, but we do tend to rely on charcoal in the U.S. The original BARBECUE as we think of it was a pit of glowing wood embers with large cuts of meat over it (burning fat flavored the meat) and high enough so large chunks and even whole hogs could cook over direct heat. There is nothing like real wood and smoke on meat cooked by a man who knows his business.
+Kenneth shaheen jr. Yes, that is all true. I think it is just a joke in South Africa not to say that word ;) I'm lucky that my father-in-law is an expert at it. I'm hoping to learn from the best :)
