I have the same problem and my dentist said he will have to go with the teeth extraction method but I'm worried that my face would look small after the treatment because my lower jaw is small, or it would affect my smile like it would make my smile less wide, so I want you to tell me how was your experience do you feel like do youu think you should've gone for the jaw surgery or something or does your face look attractive after the treatment??
I’m literally crying because I have an overbite and I was told I needed jaw surgery, there is no way I can afford it and i’m desperate I need braces but also was told they wouldn’t help , this gave me hope , thank you!
Unfortunately, jaw be your best option. Getting extractions and pushing your maxilla back might “fix” the issue aesthetically but it doesn’t fix it functionally.
@@GenkiStarLeaf I cannot afford the jaw surgery, but I know what you mean, I just being completely honest, I’m not going to be able to afford jaw surgery, is so expensive and just for consultation they were going to charge me $450 I have many bills to pay and with everything going up this just seems impossible to me.
Man so happy for her i can imagine the confidence she got after her overbite correction because i have one too. I have braces for about a year now i had anterior spacing in my upper teeth, that has been closed but i still have overbite. Can't wait for that to be corrected so i can smile widely in photos ;)
Me too :) Today i started my orthodontics treatment. I should get my extraction next week. Fingers crossed... Glad i bumped into this video, gives me hope.
I have a very similar overbite like hers. I actually got those two top teeth removed today and I am getting braces a little over a month from now. I hope my smile turns out ok.
I’m 29 and have had my braces for about a year and just started using the rubber bands. I went to two consultations to explore options before choosing an office. One recommended the jaw surgery and the ortho I chose advised for me to have 4 of my teeth extracted bc of how invasive the jaw surgery is and the recovery time needed. My overbite was severe and teeth were pretty crooked causing a weird side profile making me super self conscious throughout most of my early adulthood. I’ll admit the extraction procedure wasn’t easy for me, even with the gas and numbing I was really anxious and felt some pain. But it was well worth it and I’m seeing so much improvement and the areas that had space from the teeth removal are almost closed.
@@fayereaganlover You do realize with a severe case their face was already diformed which clearly led to some very unpleasant teen age and young adulthood experiences and trauma. As you see in this video, a correct procedure will drastically improve the facial traits and offer a much needed help in their life. It's a massive problem that parents are ignoring their kids growing up and not taking steps at the right time. And for those that say, not everyone can afford, that is the major problem. Bringing those kids a bad life of poverty or strife is a sign of egoism for the parent and lack of responsibility .
hi am 28 and have the same problem as well. I am looking at various treatment options. one doctor clearly told me that I needed jaw surgery. Another one suggested using Invisalign. If you don't mind, by what mm did you have an overbite. I have an overbite of 6mm. how were the results post-treatment?
@@prathyushad6665 I’m not too sure on the mm, but it was pretty drastic, overbite plus overcrowding, and small jaw size. This was something my parents were informed of by my child dentist in the past but they didn’t care to fix it. I did have trauma and some tough years bc of it, thankfully I wasn’t bullied but I knew what people were thinking, something I’ll always have a lingering grudge about with my parents. However results wise, I still have a teeny tiny overbite but i dont feel self conscious about it. Also my teeth are so much straighter. I think the bad part about having the extractions was having the visible gaps but as long as you stay on top of your appointments and wear the bands it goes by quick.
I am 46 with 12mm overjet and very narrow palate. Never had ortho before. Kids at school used to call me Bucky Beaver and whatnot. My orthodontist prescribed two jaw surgeries (le forte 1 osteotomy on the upper jaw early on, extending the lower jaw like a year or so later). One surgeon said ok and is working on preauthorization for me, but I got a 2nd opinion and 2nd surgeon said jaw surgery not recommended at my age. I may talk to my orthodontist about doing extractions instead, for several reasons: 1) less risk 2) less cost 3) less recovery time in terms of missing work and life events Would hope for a better aesthetic at the end of treatment, but also being able to bite into things like a normal person would be great. 12mm overjet is like having a neon sign advertising your childhood poverty. No kid should go through what I went through
@@stacyannjohnson4219 I think when people see my buckteeth they assume I'm poor and stupid. It probably doesn't help that Hollywood portrays every person with buckteeth as poor and stupid. I have a college degree and I am well paid. I just prioritized other things in life up until now. My kids have both had braces. We went on some nice vacations. My kids are grown now and this is for me. I hope you can make it happen for yourself too It seems most places offer payment plans for braces and it comes out to $150/month or something. I asked if any discount to pay cash and there isn't. There also isn't any interest. So I am doing the payments since they offer no incentive to pay now.
I was called long mouth for a very long time😞 little did I know it was because of my open bite🥺 , just got mine on can’t wait to see my results. Nice video, posting my journey on my channel ❤️
I just got braces an hour and a half ago! And let me say...i thought it would feel SO different. There were parts that hurt, not pressure, but hurt but it was okay afterwards. (Like when they put on my springs.) I was having trouble even drinking and i just finished relearning it... a word of advice: DONT SWALLOW you get the air thing in your mouth and it helps so you dont need to swallow...well i had a mini panic attack because i felt like i needed to swollow and the little thing they put in my mouth cut up my gums so much...please save yourself trouble, I hope your braces goes well all i know is right now my mouth hurts so bad.
you'll definitely gonna cry on your first adjustment, not gonna scare u but u have ur braces already so u know how cute and at the same time painful it is😉
Thank u so much for this video. I just had braces put in and the same two teeth extracted. Ive always been self conscious about my upper teeth and top lip/mouth area as it protrudes as well. I was seeing all kinds of scary videos of people saying it will give u sunken face/eyes/cheeks and cause other facial structure problems. Im so happy to see that thats not the case and it was the right treatment in my case. Thanks doc.
I have got extracted my first pre molars today. And the exact same case. Hope it doesn't affect my breathing. Do share your experience. And try to breathe from nose as much possible.
@@भारतवासी-प6प same got 2 upper premolars extracted, I already have difficulty in breathing because of my deviated Nasal septum, so at night I can't help it but breathe through my mouth. I wonder how that is going to affect me in the long run cause teeth extractions, braces on top of that a deviated Nasal septum
How is it going for you now??? Can u give some updates ? I’m late 20s and been wearing brace for 4 months now. Initially I just want my teeth to be straightened so extraction wasn’t recommended. But then I raised my concern about my overbite. Thereforec My orthodontist and I decided to remove 2 upper teeth to fix overbite 0.6mm next month. I’m a bit scared cos I’ve read too much things online about tooth extraction 😅. I’m worried I’ll be older and face shape will be changed in worse way 😂x. My orthodontist tried to reassure me it won’t happen that way but I’m still scared haha.
Very happy to see this video as I also have the same problem.. straight teeth with a large overbite.. l had my braces 2 months back... Waiting for the good positive result... After watching this I'm now 100 % sure that definitely I will get good positive result.
I am pretty much in the same position. I’ve had my braces for 2 years now and my teeth are pretty straight just my front teeth are pushed out from sucking my thumb as a child. My orthodontist hasn’t said anything about the elastic or the springs he only said jaw surgery. Which, I keep trying to tell him isn’t really ideal for me being that my husband is military and gone a lot and I’m a stay at home mom of two babies under two. And pretty far away from family. I’m going to ask him next appointment if maybe pulling some teeth or if doing anything else would work instead of surgery. Thank you for this!
Great video, I have a Class 1 on my left and a Class 2 on my right, with my front deep in a deepbite. I wondered if anyone had every had such a thing fixed without extractions. I'm told I'd either need 2 premolars removing or to live with a 4-6mm overjet.
I have class 2 deepbite 6mm, I am going with Invisalign ( 11monts) without any extractions. With braces they told me I need extractions and 2 years of treatment and only braces can help me.
A real full faced orthodontist would beg to differ with treatment options this video delivered. Extracting healthy teeth for braces is barbaric and not necessary. Retracting them backwards and further shrinking your palate (also same bone as nasal floor btw) is not much better. This 'tooth beautician' does not even mention expansion which is possible, even in adults-without surgery. There are thousands suffering from the effects of bad orthodontia. Do you research please. There are other options than shrinking your skull
ohh that makes sense. that is what my dentist told me too, i am now in braces but he refuses to extract my tooth because as he said it is a perfectly healthy teeth. i use metal bands and according to him, it can fix my teeth without extraction. i have a long way to go but i trust the process and my dentist’s judgement
I hope I can afford braces. I have a severe overbite. Having braces are really expensive here in our country. And it's so hard to find the best doctor 😥😭
I have the same overbite teeth like her & I am undergoing braces treatment now, hope my Dr would fix it right on time... they also suggested me the same way to extract my teeth & do the treatment. Hope the results would come out good. Thank you Dr for the nice explanation 🙂🫰
after watching Dr. Ty's explanation on overbite treatment, I asked Kriss AI about the Herbst appliance and learned it's key for correcting jaw growth in young patients and operates around the clock, which is pretty impressive for orthodontic treatment.
hi doc. i have an over bite teeth and i just did 2 extraction of my teeth same with what you do to that girl. i hope ill get the pretty smile i ever wanted. 5urs of braces without anything moving or any changes. i sacrifice 2 healthy teeth im praying its worth it. thx doc.
I have a pronounced underbite. After almost a year of elastics not too much progress. I switched offices and got 2 lower bicuspids extracted. Hope it's works for me as well. I didn't want jaw surgery either.
@@ifeellikeiwasborntoloveya6547 I did the right thing by switching offices. Its been 2 months since I had my extractions. I have elastic and powerchains on. My upper and lower teeth finally level. There is still obvious gaps so I can already tell my underbite will be corrected once the extraction gaps are closed. My crossbite is also mostly corrected now as well. Can't wait for the results after another year.😁
Omg! This video is for me. I was about to ask a question when you said "She has this braces for 3years" because my case is I have crowded teeth and now on its correct places but my teeth pushes forward so its overbite now😭 I wonder how my dentist will fix it and I didn't ask her because I'm shy.
Hello, thanks for sharing the process of fixing an overbite with braces and extractions. Your video was enlightening. I am in my late twenties. I have been on braces for two years now. I had an overbite with very protrusive front teeth and some spaces in the upper teeth. Four wisdom teeth (lower and upper jaw) were extracted before putting on the braces. I have seen good improvements with the overbite correction (also with the help of rubbers). However, there is a need for the front teeth to move back a bit to improve the face better. My orthodontist has recommended I extract additional four teeth (two teeth on the upper arch and two teeth on the lower arch). If I choose to proceed with the extractions, this would be a total of 8 teeth extraction during my treatment of which I am worried and have shared my concerns with my orthodontist. Also, in your video, you stated that taking teeth out doesn’t have a negative side effect on the face. But, I discovered that my jaw or chin became smaller (V shape) after extracting my wisdom teeth. What are your thoughts on my concerns? What would you advise I do?
Why your orthodontist didn't first apply braces for overbite? & btw V shape jawline is number 1 feminine trait that is it looks good on females😊 but not on male 😔
I also did took out 4 teeth 2 on top and 2 on bottom. They checked the xray and instantly made the decision. I just started wearing braces so I can’t say much about it. Hopefully yours went well.
Found out yesterday that I could of had to have jaw surgery but lucky I didn’t need it and I’m gonna have the same thing this girl had and have two teeth taken out and braces put on
I have a 4mm overbite and severe overcrowding and I’m scared to get my extractions because my orthodontist never discussed any of these other options or thought about my side profile and how that might affect my face since I don’t have the best side profile and I don’t wanna make it worse :( I’m not sure but I hope it goes well for me!
I have an overbite and my orthodontist suggested to remove my 2 teeth. I'm scared to remove 2 perfectly healty teeth but i think it will be for the better because I hate my smile right now
As you can see from the video, removing teeth is not a big deal and by the time you’re finished it’s braces the space is closed, bite is corrected, and no one will be able to tell you had teeth extracted 👍
I can't wait to have my braces and whatever treatment is required. My teeth looks fine but lately I've been having jaw problems because of it and my bite feels weird.
In my case, I have a over bite and my teeth are 60° from both sides. Which i wanted to fix. So, my orthodontist suggested me to extract two upper teeth and its been only a month but lets wait for the result more 8 to 10 months to go. I hope the wide gap which i have after extraction will be replaced with better positioned teeth.
She reached the results in 12 months ? Vs the years that they just would not move. Why isn’t this the 1st option to those with overbites. It sure it’s quicker and almost guaranteed overbite correction then just braces for 2 to 3 years hoping that it works
Hello doc, I believe you could answer this question. I had braces a long time ago and the previous doctor already extracted two premolars in my upper jaw due to overbite. Recently I just got second braces because my teeth become overbite again. The new doctor told me that he has to extract two teeth (he believes it has to be the molars). I am scared to have this procedure done because as of now, I am in my 30s, and having my teeth removed is the last option. Do you have any suggestions besides the treatments explained in this video? thank you very much
Hi! may I ask how did it go? I'm in a similar situation except I went into an orthodontist (not premier) and assured me braces will fix my overbite and it didn't fix anything it made my upper and lower teeth leaned forward and still have overbite :( did you get braces and was the issue solved?
great result, Dr. Herbst documented cases of his appliance on non-growing patients as an option to orthognatic surgery, but it takes longer time and it really works. keep sharibg, thanks.
Every patient is different and without seeing your case it's hard to say. If you are located in Arizona and Interested in learning more about your specific treatment plan check out the link in the description to schedule a free consultation. Hope this helps!
Hello Doc! I have almost the same case with your patient and Im scheduled to undergo the same procedure next week. Only thing different is I was advised to have a biteplane to avoid my teeth hitting the brackets? Is there an alternative for that?
I just got braces on Friday it’s Sunday I haven’t got the bottom put on until 6 weeks and I’m scheduled for my extractions for two teeth up top in about 2 weeks to pull back my overbite I’m happy she got hers done and her smile is beautiful. I know it said she got hers taken off in 12 months my question is how long was it until she started seeing progress I hate my side profile it’s ugly and my teeth hang out sheesh it’s not good at all
Every case is a little different especially with children their teeth like to move a little faster than adults so it just depends on your exact case. We can't give you an exact timeline without seeing your exact case but possibly asking your Orthodontist at your next appointment would be helpful to get a more accurate timeline, Hope this helped!
My four front teeth having gap main two front teeth is bunny with overjet and two others side teeth are very small which cause huge gaps. Its been 1 month iam wearing braces and i have no idea how many months it will take more. I just can't wait to have beautiful and confident smile
Treatment time/ length with braces and invisalign is usually equal depending on how severe the case is Invisalign may take longer than other cases. Hope this helps!
Great question! Without seeing your teeth or bite it would be hard for us to say. Your best option is to talk with your local orthodontist and see what they say about it. :)
Hi thank you for this video, same case with my son. They need to extract 2 upper teeth. I have a question Doc, how long it will take to move or align the teeth?
How long it take the gap to be filled after extraction and after how many days or month start to fill up the gap. I already extracted two upper teeth and been two month not yet any movement to filled up the gap.. please answer
In overbite treatment, our orthodontist removed two premolars, after that only little bit space is covered from front tooth, and back tooth (jaws) are covered almost entire space. It is not possible to move my front tooth to back? Or it's enough? My upper tooth are more in front.
I have a problem that i have bridges done . So the dentist said extraction can’t be possible. No changes happened after one year of treatment. Please ans me what can i do? 😢
One ortho told me he refused to put braces on my teeth cause I needed corrective he surgery.. I went to one of the top cosmetic surgeons and he refused the surgery saying I’m not a candidate for that and my insurance wouldn’t even accept it because that’s not what I needed .. and that I have beautiful teeth I just need braces bad so now I’m going somewhere else next week for a consultation I’m so ready for my braces and I’m 23
Doctor am tying to correct an overjet with elastics, however on the mandibular jaw I have some missing teeth, so those molar we are using to pull the maxillary jaw are "shaking". How do I go over the shaking and how to prevent it.
My teen developed a small gap between two top front teeth during braces treatment to correct overbite and bottom crooked teeth. Ortho said it was normal but asked me if I wanted him to fix it. If I say yes, he said the two teeth will be slightly angled towards each other. Is that normal?
An overbite happened 7 months in my braces journey. Will that be fixed later on? No extractions we’re needed my ortho said. I didn’t have a bad over jet prior to having braves but my bottom teeth were crowded
been extracted 4 days ago, bec I have overbite teeth and has braces for almost 8 years now. Its just that I just have the courage to get extracted last 4 days 😅 until when it will be fixed Doc? when do you think? How many months? I will be back in clinic every 2 weeks As my dentist told me
