It would appear that a more humane means of cancer treatment is desparately needed. As an Endometrial Cancer patient who had a total hysterectomy three weeks ago, I am scheduled to have vaginal vault brachytherapy, and experience that sounds less than appealing on many levels. Patients report: Fear, emotional and physical distress, and humiliation increased by numbers of staff in the room gaping at them when they are placed in a very vulnerable position. Whilst the need to mop up any remaining cancer cells after surgery is the goal, I doubt any woman wishes to be subjected to such brutal treatment. One went so far as to say she would rather have died than go through this. Most reported screaming in pain as cylinders were inserted and removed, and praying to God that it would be over, but it was not! How can this possibly be acceptable? Especially when none of this is discussed at the initial consultation with the Radiology Oncologist. A failure to be honest and upfront with patients, seems to be common behaviour amongst the medical profession, transparency is often non-existent, take having a uterine biopsy at a Gyn's office for example. There is nothing more excruciating! And, it is often described as minor cramping, such lies at best, fuel patient distrust. And, in the UK such treatment has actually begun to be considered as abuse! Not a gram of compassion was wasted towards any patient in this video. Apparently, patients are just incidental in relation to an interlectual persuits!
