With all the technique videos out there now THIS IS THE BEST explanation I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched many of your videos over the past few years. This is repeatable. As an amateur, I especially like your thoughts on just throwing a standstill or shortening my x step to fit my stride length and flexibility. Thank you for your years of effort and the outstanding content over the years.

After an entire summer of trying to improve my form, posting form check videos online, and relearning my form for the 4th time....this is everything that I've been missing. The lightbulb moment. I can't I somehow missed learning how important the brace is. I practically don't brace at all when I throw and I'm excited to begin implementing this into my drives.

Your videos have helped me more than all the other disc golf videos combined.

Thank you for the great information! I love to play DG but am still struggling with distance and I am convinced it's technique. Your video lessons are outstanding. You are very relatable. Keep it up! You are helping folks like me enjoy this awesome sport more through your efforts.

Excellent video!! Most instructional videos miss this point which is critical for power.

Second video of yours I’ve seen, and again, really helpful. So many instructional form videos out there, and these are some of the best, if not the best I’ve seen. Good stuff!

6 years later and this helped me out. Waaaay to big of a last stride trying to get power that my front leg was dead weight.

Gidday Jason, I'm just finishing up an article on bracing and thought I'd revisit this old video of yours. One thing the top few golfers now do is to straighten the plant leg during the elbow smash. This moves the right hip slightly upwards and slightly backwards along the LOP which slightly increases hip rotation speed. It also offers a much higher level of traction as the extension pressures the ground more. Then once the knee and hip extension is complete, it instantly deweights the plant foot which disengages the forefoot to pivot on the heel. Drew Gibson is the player who is demonstrating this technique most strongly, and given he's throwing 600 feet while finishing in balance on his plant foot, he's arguably got the finest backhand power form of any player. Eagle does the same thing, but not quite as powerfully as Drew.

Yes, I've been thinking about this a lot. The rotation has to come from somewhere. Ultimately the faster you rotate, the faster you throw, but the means of getting that rotation and "using" your hips is not that obvious. What I've come up with so far: The rotation of the hips starts from the body swinging around the back foot/leg, and is further accelerated has the right leg planting and pushing the right hip back and up (the reason that the plant foot is ~perpendicular to the line). By then extending the plant leg as the arm swings out, the arm get accelerated just like a pendulum accelerates from gravity, same concept as a hammer thrower. So far the only role of muscle is to be able to keep the frame and catch the weight (+the right leg push). I'm thinking though that you further increase the rotation by actively opening the torso (?), the elbow, (even the wrist perhaps) and shoulder. You can't create rotation out of nowhere, and at this point your back foot is deweighted, so whatever small rotation you can create with the toes and heel of your right foot is negligable and probably would destroy your knee since there is so much weight on the foot already. Actively opening each body part like this therefore has to slow the previous body part down. This is the same reason why twisting your hips does not work. You do get a little bit of rotation from pushing the ground, but mostly your torso has to rotate counterclockwise as rapidly and no power is gained, only backpain. Anyway, slowing the previous body segment down is not a problem as long as it has already transferred it's momentum to the next body segment. This part of the throw is probably near impossible to teach, and people trying to open body parts before the previous body part has transferred is what causes muscling/early pull. But I think it's still important to think about because eventually you can't get more juice from simply your left and right "foot". There is some power in the beto drill portion of the throw.

Great video! I'm a newer player (2 years) and just came across your videos, the Beto video and Walker videos. Combined they have been a tremendous help in adding distance and have provided me with better tips than most of the pro videos. Thank you so much for making the videos, now it just needs to warm up so I can get some field practice!

Sorry for the double post but I went out today to practice this specifically. Using your advice I was throwing my mids from a standstill further than I was throwing my drivers with a run up a couple weeks ago. Amazing stuff!

I have read every article and watched every vid with great hunger to be better. At 51 and playing for 6 years relearning proper form will keep me in the game for the long haul. Poeple say i have good tempo but at 300-325 i have topped out. have worked on my putting this off season 90 minutes a day with improved results.Hope your teaching drive will continue to disciple the masses coming to our great sport!

Thanks so much for your videos! Like most disc golfers I try to improve my game as I go out and play each time. I appeciate your tips and insights, especially on balance and footwork. I've had a tendency to hurt my knees at times because my balance gets out of control. I'm sure your tips on bracing and balance will help me stay more under control, and avoid unnecessary knee-tweeking!

It scares me how close your hand gets to the basket on those follow throughs....It's too important to the world of disc golf don;t break it ;) Is that one of the pacific ones by the way, is it any good? Looking at maybe picking a few up for a tour series playing at prospective courses.

+Richard Hatton I'd say it's an acceptable practice basket, or temp basket in a pinch... they're gonna spit out substantially more than any permanent quality basket. I've been abusing it for 2 years straight and it hasn't failed in any way yet - so I'd give it a "good for the price" rating.
