2002 X5 towed to me for transmission problems, had gear monitoring codes present as well as stall monitoring(means slipping on pullaway) found problem in A Clutch circuit as the skinny o-ring was torn creating a leak. I go through the teardown and show some parts that i use for rebuilding. Thanks for watching, off to the shop still very busy and trying to keep up.

Just as a FYI, this transmission was out of a 2002 BMW X5 4.6i with 117,000 miles (seems to be the norm mileage for trans failure for the ZF5HP24). Gary was great. Very communicative with me. I wouldn't use anyone else after my experience, he definitely knows his stuff which is obvious in his videos. Car is driving great after the rebuild and look forward to another 100K+ of driving. :) Even had a transmission from Chicago IIRC on a pallet ready to be rebuilt. History of the car. I bought the car with it already having trouble shifting into gears which was random but frequent. Couldn't pin it down to if the transmission was hot/cold or a specific gear. I knew the trans needed replacement/rebuilt when purchased. X5 sat for a while and when I decided to do something about it, the clutches started slipping. That's when I towed it to AAA-1. Thanks for putting the video up and the work on the transmission Gary!!

I'm french and unfortunatly i don't understand all what you say in the video 😁 I would like to know wich part was responsable of the failure, the bearing, the drum A or the seal ? My trans has the same problem and think i'll dare to open it thanks to your great video.

Great video. I have a ZF5HP24 out of an 03 Jag, drove perfectly today but made a noise after pulling in the garage and going into park. After hearing it, tried selecting gears and found no reverse or forward gears, until its revved and it will jump into gear. Let it cool for a little bit and found its now engaging all gears until it warmed back up, then did the same thing. Have been daily driving it and have not had any shift issues prior. A quick look didn't show signs of excessive fluid loss. Any ideas?

Nice video! Don't know why I find it more than one year after upload! I have as well the same gearbox in my E39 540i. First time in the day when I put it into Reverse, its really kicking in the reverse gear. Not so for D mode. As well, it does that really only when cold and done the first time after cooldown. If you try to do it again, Reverse will be engaged very lightly, no problem anymore. Any idea? It has about 200k miles on it and oil and filters have been changed 10k miles ago, not better...

It is an expensive SUV and I hope she did not make a mistake purchasing it. Please advise and many thanks, sir.

Hello Gary. How much does that rebuild costs? I have an '03 Range Rover (BMW) with that exact tranny, and what is most likely the torn seal/o-ring. Starts up, drives normally for two miles then slips into fourth gear with trans fail safe warning. Seems like when it warms up, there is leakage past the broken ring. Folks here in Texas are hesitant to rebuild these. I would consider shipping it to you because the suv has been fully restored minus the tranny issue now.

@@GaryFerraro hi Gary, thanks for the reply.. no codes as of yet simply because there is no specialists where I am just indies.. but why i say this is because I'm told the e-clutch or aka e-brake (nothing to do with emergency brake) is used for second gear only which is my culprit slipper.
