OMG Bradley please call Pete now to inspire him and we'll give you the keys to the city of Ljubljana or something symbolic like that.

Primoz will have more opportunities to win a GT in the future, I think. The short amount of time in which he ascended the power rankings of GC riders is amazing. To think of the fact he finished 1st in every stage race (3×) he rode this year up untill the Giro is remarkable. So glad he rides for a Dutch team and I hope he stays there. I don't think the incident where the teamcar was behind for a sanitary stop is representative for the quality the team offers to its riders.

Wiggins should be on the radio for Roglic for the rest of the Giro.

How can he say such "honest" words right in front of Roglic... It's obvious for everyone in Giro not to give up fighting, but he is still in the position that he can win!! Those guys have to be motivated to win...
@balloe3466
@balloe3466 5 лет назад
It's in Dutch culture to speak your mind about stuff. The teammanager is telling things as how they are. Wether it's good motivation or not I'll let aside, but to me as a Dutch person his remarks weren't that noteworthy.
@johnbouttell5827

Primož Roglič is a strong character; he might not want Addy shouting in his ear. As Brad said in a previous podcast, some cyclists just want information; they can motivate themselves.

True
@taka8108
@taka8108 5 лет назад
Yes, this is also true. But still he has to stay positive in front of his own rider, not like ah what can we do. And looking at this interview, I doubt if he was providing information in a motivating way. The sad think is that I don't see the love and trust in his own riders...

I am no GC contender, but if there's something I absolutely hate when it comes to road cycling, it's people constantly shouting at riders to "encourage them". If I am suffering and giving it all on a tough mountain climb, the last thing I want to hear is some dude shouting at me to go faster or even telling me I'm doing great. I'd probably get off the bike and slap them silly with the pointy end of a cassette lockring removal tool.

Engels should be fired, no doubt about it. To let your rider down one day and give up on him the next is just too much.

And where exactly did he let him down? You guys are so full of it.
@TheBroervan
@TheBroervan 5 лет назад
Oh oh, Bradley, relax. That's just Dutch realism for you. Primož is a pretty down-to-earth guy himself and he seems like the guy that would appreciate this. Regardless, it's a first reaction - from the heart - and my guess is that everyone in the team is feeling disappointed and seeing as Addy Engels is a human being he expresses that disappointment. That doesn't mean they are not going to have a motivating speech and work on a new plan of attack in the team bus.
@BrettFyfield
@BrettFyfield 5 лет назад
Add even laughed at one point, what utter contempt for his own rider. And after not being there for the mechanical before the rest day. Where is the love? Where are the other riders getting around Roglic?

In my opinion, Mr. Engels was clearly in a moment of mental weakness, frustration, disappointment, even desperation. I think the interview says more about the DS' frame of mind than it does about anything else. We've all been there: everything seems bleak, you don't see the solution, the way forwards. If there was a DS broom wagon, Mr. Engels was in danger of being swept up by it. I agree with Sir Bradley Wiggins that the DS' job is to provide the positivity and motivation for your riders, but we all get swept up in our emotions and forget our jobs sometimes. That's why post-race interviews are so valuable - had Mr. Engels been interviewed the next morning, having had a chance to mentally recover, I suspect that his outlook on the race situation would have contained more positivity and less despair.

Brad is right tho he needs positive affrimation."Bloody hell mate you had a broken bike bad bike exchange,crashed and lost ONLY 40 sec to the Best climbers in the world."There are lots of things that you can say that are true and can find in any race that you did well and were stronger than all the other riders in one moment or aspect.

Easy comments from someone who had a whole team and a bunch of money backing him to win. Riders riding in other teams don't have that. Was someone yelling that at Wiggins as well when froome was dropping him as his team-mate?

This analysis is so spot on! Jumbo Visma(and all its predecessors, going back to Rabobank) is managed by a group of total morons. They got no idea of how to work with real talent and potential winners. Whether it’s Van Aert being sent off with wrong tires in a Flanders classic, Roglic in this Giro or even Steven Kruiswijk a couple of years ago in this very same stage race, where he should have been advised not to risk anything in that descent where he crashed, team leaders showed the tactical skills of my grandmother, and she’s already dead for at least a decade!

His one TdF win was only because Team Sky told Froome to help. Froome was actually the better cyclist even then. Watch the tapes, Froome zoomed up the hills pulling Wiggins on all the important stages. Froome could easily have gone off the front and taken the time for himself. But then he was just considered an African domestique, a short-term slave to Wiggins.

"The Brits will never ever understand this sport." 8 Grand Tours in 7 years says otherwise. And before you say it, it isn't just the money. Kathusa, Bahrain, Astana and BMC (used to) have almost the same budget yet they win far less combined than Sky alone. Because they don't have the knowhow and Sky does.
