Awesome…. You’re the first person that I’ve seen put the level on the bottom. As a new shooter, this stuff is so valuable. Thank you for the techniques. The bottom makes way more sense than putting a level on the turret cap.

@Lexidezi225 5 месяцев назад
Yes sir. I changed up the scopes on all my rifles and put a new one on my magnum. They were all different. The turret caps are waaay off on some scopes. My old Nikon pro staff 5 was the closest. Bottom of scope and then use the corner of a wall or hang a string to double check it. Also having a rifle that you can get the level in the action. Leveling the pic rail isn’t always accurate

Do you lose the function of unloading while on safe when switching to the aftermarket trigger? The bolt release button is one of my favorite things about the X Bolt. I've only used aftermarket springs so far to lighten the pull.

Good stuff man. I’m in the same boat with a lot of my stuff. Tinkering is fun. Factory triggers are typically garbage compared to. I’m getting into the process of getting my ARCA and pic rails installed. Luckily none of my rifles have sticks like that so it’ll be a little bit easier.

@brady_j_miller are you using the long (11.5") or short (10.6") SRS rail on that browning stock? looks like a perfect fit and I'm hoping to replicate. Thanks a ton for sharing these build details.

Hey @Brady Miller, what "fastner option" did you go with when you bought the hunter rail from SRS? Are the bolts that they (SRS) offer not compatable with what the x bolt already has in its stock, so you are having to drill out and install the claw nuts anyways? And if so, what claw nuts did you use?
@brady_j_miller
@brady_j_miller 8 месяцев назад
Happy to help! So if you use a Browning rifle stock, you will have to drill out and install claw nuts to put the SRS rail on. Browning's stocks have some cross bracing material in them, and that is what you need to work around (you can use some of the original holes Browing has in their stocks, but sometimes I just remove them and install claw nuts in those areas). I use the supplied claw nuts from SRS. It's honestly not that hard of a process. So what I do is mock where I need to drill, and then I take a soldering iron (or sometimes different bits) to cut/melt out the area where I want to put the claw nuts. I've found that the soldering iron works really well to remove the braces inside the stock. Then I will continue to cut away material and test the fit. You might find a drill bit can be handy sometimes as well. When I know I have the placement perfect, I will use JB Weld around the base of the claw nut and sort of make a home for the nut inside the stock. I use a release agent on the screws, and then I will tighten down the screws to the claw nut through the stock and let it dry for 48 hours at least. If I'm using a McMillan stock, I do the same process, but I use a Forester bit and still JB Weld the claw nuts down. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

I'd like to know what that rifle weighs and also would like to see you group that rifle to see the precision. What ammo are you using for hunting?

Awesome build Brady! I haven’t taken a build to that extreme but I think I’m going to on the next! When you leveled the rifle right to left did you just use your rings? Not the action? Also in part 1 was there any particular reason you used JB weld for pic rail and JB Kwik for the rings other than cure time?
@brady_j_miller
@brady_j_miller Год назад
Glad you saw some value in it. I level off the top rings, then I also double check the level off the top of the picatinny rail as well to get the left to right dialed. I do have another level that I use from time to time in my action that will help with the left and right, but I'm not 100% confident in that level, so I've found using the rings and the picatinny rail to be best. Really no particular reason for the difference in JB weld besides for the cure time. I do believe the tensile strength is stronger with the original JB weld and in my head, it seems that area might benefit more from the original. I haven't tested using JB kwik on the picatinny rail, but I believe it would definitely work.

I have a new browning X-bolt and I just took the action out of the stock to install a picatinny rail on it. Is there a need to redo the glass bedding, or is the factory one good? I am wondering if I would gain accuracy by re-doing the bedding job since it has been taken apart.

When did the Arca rail get installed??? Video starts with the Arca rail already installed
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 6 месяцев назад
Happy to help you out with this. The video starts with a picatinny rail on the rifle, but Brady changes that up and does install an arca rail and has to do some modifications to his stock which we show later in the video. At 20:04 you'll see Brady talking about adding his combo pic/arca rail. And then if you keep watching, we show a clip where Brady is in his garage adding that rail onto this rifle stock. Let us know if you have any questions. Always willing to help! Have a great day.

Where's the cutoff where just buying a better setup rifle is worth it? $1300 rifle, add a $200 trigger, drill out and epoxy a stock to make an arca rail fit, then do a full bedding job, add pillars....Can you get all of that off the shelf for under $2,000?
@jonbibb4208
@jonbibb4208 11 месяцев назад
No not of the shelf, but you can get for about 3k by building it yourself. Action with pic rail made into action. Good rings and you don't have to bed scope rings. Prefit barrel, buy a trigger , stock of your choice. Better than anything you can buy in a traditional store
