Just know that while looking steezy, it'll wreck every trail you're doing it on. So if you're not digging/maintaining trails yourself, maybe don't. ;) Skandinavian flick before a corner, or for loosing speed in the steep. Here's a brief introduction: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NEXu-WOwB_M.html

I happened on an impromptu front brake learning session. I rode up my usual hill… and found out my back brake was glassed after a previous day of ridiculous brake intensive riding. Had to ride the entire thing on my front brake only. A learning experience for sure😂

Thank you so much for this video. I did a full superman OTB while on a trail I had no business being on (I'm very new to mtb), going too fast and panic squeeze the breaks. Hearing, "ya just need to practice" but no guidance on how to practice was frustrating. This is super helpful.
@2dcutout
@2dcutout Год назад
OTB's happen from grabbing brakes, this is what happens instinctively when you're scared. It's quite normal and a habit that is very quickly broken with braking practise (Ben's talk on Modulation). You can squeeze (not grab) the brakes VERY hard, and if your body is in the right position you'll slow down fast without going OTB.

I think one key thing that wasn't on the script is: pump the ground while heavy braking in the brake zone. It increases grip, but you have to time the brake with the pump.

How to brake. Pull levers. Why brake? To slow down. When to brake? Preferably before you crash. Too early and you're a noob. Too late and you're a sender. Just right and you have a seat with the 3 bears, just sippin' on some porridge.
@paulalbe4587
@paulalbe4587 Год назад
You should talk more about using the brakes independently of each other. Entering the braking zone I actually apply my front brake fractionally before my rear brake, and then depending on the exit, I smoothly release each brake separately as the respective wheel gets to the apex. You could call it trail braking but I like to think of it as... "release each brake sequentially to give the tire the grip necessary to hold the turn". 1. Enter braking zone, Front brake comes on VERY strong first, then the rear modulating to maintain the rear from sliding 2. As you get to the apex and decide it's time to come off the brakes, you will begin to lean the bike 3. As you lean the bike the front tire will require you to release the front brake to "give" more of the total available traction to turning and less to braking 4. Completely off the front brake now as it has passed the corner of the apex, you begin to let off the rear, maintaining grip and juuuuust barely dragging the rear depending on if you want to rotate the rear tire or not through the corner 5. Off the rear brake now you are though the corner!

I was just wondering why is it at other countries and places tend to put their brakes on the opposite sides that we do here in the US I'm also a motorcycle rider so I agree that when you're comparing it to a motorcycle it makes more sense to have the brakes in the same side but is there any reason other than that I also hear a lot of writers from the UK say that it just makes sense or that it's the right way I was just wondering the reasoning to me it seems for the consistency between other types of vehicles and bikes

come on bubba where you live they do it messed up and right rear but where you live if ride a motorbike whats the right break lever activate.... oh yeah the front..... I rode motorcross before I ever rode a pedalbike, first time on pedalbike I needed breaks thinking "obvious right front" so I pulled my left ended in a end overheels endo! all of Uk and Urope do it right, I wish Canada did it proper my bike techs have to be reminded I have my levers on the right way not the wrong way... the looks I get here in Canada.... priceless.

@@antlerr That's a good point, but I don't ride Motocross and most people who mountain bike do not either. But it does matter less on a motorcycle which is front, since it's so heavy it doesn't endo really much. The USA just likes to do things their own way, just like with no metric here.
@antlerr
@antlerr 12 дней назад
@@byronswogger you want the reason in physics why the front on right just makes more sense, fine 9 outa 10 people are right handed, equals stronger right side over left, you favour it more. what happens to the weight when you start to break..? the weight is shifted forward from car, to bike to pedal bike all same physics, cars to help them stop use 60 percent front break power compared to 40 percent rear why weight shift forward my friend... pro moto riders use one finger on there break lever, pro pedal bikers with both breaks use front break more then there rear why physics my friend can't exscape it. If everywhere whent back to original front on right like since day one of bikes would force more people to use it more after all most important break you got, give this a try some time coast downhill and try stoping just back brake only without a skid mark star and stop point then try again at same start point try just front brake see how much less just front stops you! and enjoy todays leason in physics.
