VW T4 2.5tdi caravelle rear brake load compensator started to leak, so I figured I'd take you along and show you how I swapped it out for a new bosch one. The bias valve that I removed was also bosch. I bleed the brakes using a sealey brake pressure system along with using comma dot 4 brake fluid.
You can purchase the sealey brake pressure kit from clicking this link amzn.to/3JiHG1Y
5 litres of dot 4 can be purchased here amzn.to/3ZLx6G4
Alternatively you can buy 1 litre at a time here amzn.to/3YoLR0y

Quick tip from when I did mine: I'd bought a couple of brake caliper seal kits and each came with a little silicon end stops for the brake pipes. With a tiny bit of red rubber grease they popped onto the ends of the brake lines leading from the master cylinder when I'd undone them. Saved the fluid dripping out everywhere and emptying the reservoir!

Yeah I got a lot of different size rubber caps to go over nipples and brake lines, it didn’t even cross my mind about using them as in my head I was going to flush the whole system anyway. Good tip tho 👍

Top job Tip for you matt mix atf and acetone (mail varnish remover) And apply to rusty fittings with a brush When there all cracked loose press the brake pedal to the floor or as far as you can and block it to the seat that will stop you loosing all the fluid

Top tips right here, wish I knew that before I done the job, I’ll remember that atf and acetone, I got some of them as well 👍

Pretty sure mine isn’t working right. Doesn’t seem to make any difference to braking when adjusted to either extreme

Hi i have watch your video and it is informative as to how with issues and compensating valve regulator that controls at what height van is, most and all videos be it whoever are related to needing to adjust to compensate if lower your van as to not have them locking up on rear. I understand the T4 with the cradle with the springs both sides and the adjustment in the center and the valve in center with locking nut but understanding what way needed, as most seem all wish to lower there vans i don't but i have fitted heavy duty springs that don't allow my van to compress much at all, even with a load and if so even with 700 kilo's in the back, is i had standard springs the van mechanics may compensate, having said all that if it be controlled by a computer and its not as all know manically the van is riding much higher than standard, hence manically, this is not lowing the correct pressure to the brakes even with load very heavy suspension springs, so the adjustment needed to increase the breaking do the cradle springs both sides need to be increased in pressure more and the center adjustment with locking nut expect need to be turned in and expect not outwards, at the end of the day what way does all the adjustment need to go to increase breaking pressure. your understanding on operation may be able to help as solve my issues, many thanks

There’s 2 bolts on the side of it which you can loosen and that will give movement in the hardware allowing you to make small adjustments. The actual set up procedure is very complex and needing specific testing equipment. If you loosen those two bolts, make an adjustment either way, tighten it up then go for a drive and slam the brakes on, then you can adjust from there

If you attempt it yourself be prepared for the worst, it’s easy to round a brake line connection or even snap a pipe. As it’s the braking system and a vital component I would always recommend getting a garage to do the job, if you do this job yourself I would definitely recommend taking it to an mot station and get the brakes tested. Which ever way you choose to go, good luck with your van 👍

Hi bud i did mine 2 months ago and still failed the tester did something with the computer and i got a pass He said i did every thing on the back brakes so he did me a favour and next time put some extra weight in the back it should do it [ 3 bags of cement } are you going to do a video on how to adjust the valve PLEASE thanks

Hello buddy, sounds like a decent MOT guy, not many testers like that 👍 I didn’t want to show how to adjust because of safety reasons behind doing this job for people who aren’t confident or competent and being the brakes it’s quite vital not to get it wrong. However there is an Allen key hidden under a rubber grommet which can adjust, however you can also make adjustments by loosening the load valve unit from the chassis and it will swivel on the bottom bolt which should be enough movement to make adjustments. There is in fact a lot more to it to reset and adjust, and if you want it set correctly I would recommend either finding a specialist or take it to main dealers. Sorry I can’t be much help on this at the moment, however if I get a chance to find someone willing to show how to set it up then I will.

When you reversed out I thought mind your mirror … then aww if you can’t find it grind it 😂 you didn’t end the video, do the brakes work ok💁‍♂️

That’s why I need a gearbox, it jumps out of gear even when trying to hold it in gear. Yeah the brakes work but the only real test will be on its mot when they check brake pressures
@mcjjordan

How do you set it correctly then? There must be a specific measurement?
