I have a theory that the failure of the electric brake on EZ-GO RXV golf carts is related to the "Run Plug". I show you the location of the plug and detail why I feel it is the source of the brake overheating and eventual failure.
Hi Conrad. I have actually been through at least 5 brake motors in the past 2-3 years. My newest one was installed 2 weeks ago and I am frozen up again. Will this allow the cart to free up once I make the modification?
I can’t believe how long I searched for a fix to this today. After watching this video I fixed the cart in 2 mins. Thank you so very much for posting this!! You saved me a few hundred dollars on service calls.
Thank you Matt. I searched myself and found one other video that seemed to indicate this problem but it was such a short video and had so few details. It didn't come with any solution. I'm glad this one worked for you!
Is this still working today? My cart runs for about 50 ft and then stops. I release pedal and then push it and it goes another 10 ft and then I start smelling a burning smell. Do you think I should replace with new brake or just do the jumper. Will by passing the jumper now fix what I am currently experiencing or could the brake now be fried and must be replaced.
So if the brake is bad/ failing it will just start locking up? I hate to wire it directly and remove the ability to remove the run plug to prevent moving it just needs a new brake. Would a new run plug do anything?
Thanks so much for this info. I was lax in my battery maintenance and had some corrosion issues that fried a couple of wires. Long story short, fixed all my battery issues, had power to everything but the brake would not disengage. You Tube search looking for a way to manually disengage the brake so I could push it onto a trailer to take it to the shop for what I was anticipating being a several hundred dollar shop bill led me to this video. Had no idea about the plug under the cup holder. Unplugged it and plugged it back in and BAM, brake disengages and the cart works perfectly. Thanks for saving me several days without my cart and a large shop bill!!!
Any updates? Cart still running? I did this a few months ago when I was replacing the brake for the 2nd or 3rd time. Now I'm having brake issues again.
hey guys. Anyone here know a guy that has one of the Danaher handsets that would be willing to shoot me the wiring diagram at the serial port plug at the base of the handset? My girls yanked my wires out...
Dude, you rock!!! This solved my problem in about 3 minutes. 2013 RXV. I didn't cut the wires. I just took two 3" pieces of 14 gauge (white) romex white wire and created my own makeshift jumper to get it going. Totally awesome. Thanks for the research and video!
Reprogamming the control fixes this issue. A lot of times you can reuse the old brake, if you haven't trashed the brake out. Once you start having brake issues, get it to a dealer quick. Its a cheap reprogram, and you can continue to use your old brake. (You can remove the brake, then also make a simple tow rig for the front of the cart, for your vehicle, to get it to a dealer)
Thanks for your post! I am having one hell of a time figuring out what the problem is with my 2009 rxv. Mine just wouldn't move one day. I replaced the brake with a new HD one. Not it. Took it to a dealer and they said the controller needed remanned and did that. Then said the motor was burned out and replaced that. Still same problem. I have power and solenoid clicks at key turn, lights and gauge light up. Gauge does not move or work but did briefly the 3 months I have had it. Brake lights stay on after key turn on. Kinda leads me to think about a brake switch.? Did yours act similar?
@@billcarabine6406 I sold the POS and got an older Club Car without all the electronic crap! It was in the controller I believe. That year model was 2009 I believe and was one of the first with their new electric brakes and all the sensors. They haven't worked out all the bugs yet before putting it out on the market. EZGO won't even talk to you about it if you are not a service tech.
I would think you can do the by pass with out soldering, if you get the wires twisted together really good, and use a liquid tape to seal and protect. At least this could be a good short term fix until a permanent fix can happen.
Keith Tulloch - thank you. I did manage to get this done. As well as change the brake, and the solenoid. Now she’s running well. Let’s hope It stays that way. 😁
