Prince Vlad (Gary Oldman) restrains himself from sucking the blood of Mina (Winona Ryder) and then saves her from an escaped wolf in the cinematheque.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel, this film from Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter James Victor Hart offers a full-blooded portrait of the immortal Transylvanian vampire. The major departure from Stoker is one of motivation as Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) is motivated more by romance than by bloodlust. He punctures the necks as a means of avenging the death of his wife in the 15th century, and when he comes to London, it is specifically to meet heroine Mina Harker (Winona Ryder), the living image of his late wife (Ryder plays a dual role, as do several of her costars). Anthony Hopkins is obsessed vampire hunter Van Helsing, while Keanu Reeves takes on the role of Jonathan Harker, and Tom Waits plays bug-eating Renfield. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the winner of three Academy Awards.

Dracula and Mina have the best scenes of this movie, and this one is one of my favorites! Aside from the classic "I've crossed oceans of time to find you", i just love when he's petting the wolf and says "There is much to learn with the beasts", because it looks like a metaphor for himself. He became a dangerous beast feed by blood, but there was still humanity and love inside of him, he wanted Mina to learn and understand it.

Absolutely. By taming the wolf he's showing that he control his feral side, that he's not to be feared. And when Mina pets the wolf in awe, it's another metaphor for her accepting him (the predator Dracula) as he is.

It is as if he wants her to know that she can have every aspect of him. And the way he looks at her so tenderly as their fingers tentatively brush each others in the wolf's beautiful white fur reflective of a moment of pure long searched for love and connection. That was a beautiful scene indeed.

I love this scene, not just for the line, but also the pause before he decides not to bite her. Mina looks too much like his wife for him to bite. Too perfect and alive to curse her the way he’s been cursed. It’s beautiful in the most devastating and terrifying way.

Even if he had been nominated it would've been almost impossible for a relatively unknown British actor to beat Al Pacino. The Academy really wanted to give the American icon a "sorry, overdue" Oscar that year. It would take another 25 years of incredible body of work and one blatant Oscar-bait role for Oldman to finally win one... He did an amazing job as Churchill tho

The point is that in this scene they are in a Victorian cinema/picture house of sorts. Hence the strange clip they see earlier that Dracula terms as "science". The 'stick men' are likely some kind of reenactment of a battle. Bit of trivia: they are taken from the same battle as the opening credits. So basically it's a reference to Dracula's past. Also Francis Ford Cappola didn't want to use special effects, and tried to achieve most things 'naturally'.

There's something incredibly sensual and erotic about this scene and they're still fully clothed. He's a dangerous predator that is top of the food chain and can rip your throat out in a second but with Mina he's just a tormented pining lover. There's this obsession and intensity in this scene between them. He's madly in love with her and at this moment she isn't quite aware that she's his reincarnated wife but yet she's still drawn to him, he frightens yet entices her. This is the first intimate moment alone between them and he has her in his arms after centuries of longing and then that killer line "I have crossed oceans of time to find you".

The thing about vampire movies from the 80s and 90s they made more sense with better dialogue more realistic with the technology they had then , storyline is much better than most dracula story concepts now in movies, i also like the fashion sense in this movie ,gary oldman's top hat to his shades and suit , plus the casting in this film , keanu reeves is even in this one if I'm not mistaken

*He couldn’t bring himself to do it. His thirst for his wife’s presence transcends time. He loved her more than anything. Sad he became a literal shape shifting monstrosity to be with her again.* ugh this score 😩🫠🗿 I don’t like the ENTIRE movie but some parts are literal art.
