Yep. I am at that age were prison would be a nice vacation. Had a couple of punks try shit with me one day. I told them to give me one second before we danced...I took my teeth out of my mouth, placed them on the hood of the car, then asked them what they wanted me to tell their mamas when I'm asked why I put them in the hospital. They took the hint and left.
My maternal grandparents' names were Walter and Dorothy. Grandpa was a WWII vet, and absolute hardass who was shot in the neck, taken prisoner by the Germans, escaped, hid out in France for a few months, and made it back home to his wife. This movie makes me think of him a lot. He died pretty young (63 years old), but he was still the toughest man I've ever met.
My dad fought in WWII and The Korean War. In 1969 he had to use his Colt 1911 to defend himself from a guy that was going to rob him at a Red Light in The Barrio. He was hauling Hot Asphalt at night. Drivers were getting robbed at Red Lights, so my Dad started carrying his Colt on him. One night it was Foggy, and Dad stopped at a light. He saw this guy cross over his trailer draw bar and he was sneaking up on the drivers side of the truck. Dad pulled out his gun and when the dude popped up next to the window Dads Colt was pointed right at the dudes Forehead. Dad asked him if he needed anything? The guy said he was wondering what time it was. Dad told him it was time for him to get off his truck before he Blew his Fucking head off. The guy didnt say a word. He jumped off the truck and started running the other way. True Story.
Clint Eastwood was a swim instructor at Fort Ord during the Korean War. He never saw combat and certainly didn't kill anyone with the Colt. This is a goddamn movie, and Eastwood is a career actor. He's no hero. Come back to reality numbskulls.
Clinty was 56 years old when he had him. He was cheating on his wife and broke up the family for someone who was 34 and I think he had two kids with her, one of them when he was 58. I think he cheated on her too and kept cheating. Then when Clinty was 65, he had another kid. He was always cheating and stuff a real mans man. I like how they made him seem like a honorable person with a code in the movies, I guess thats why they call it acting.
@@Kraaayn He was a great actor and in real life too? Like in real life he was good at acting and manipulating people for gain? Or he was just acting in real life for funzies?
No words to describe the legacy of Clint Eastwood. Made his debut in the 1950s classical period of Hollywood and continues making films well into the 21st century - the age of mobile phones, broadband internet and social media all of which he did not see till 60 years of his life. Many of his contemporaries have passed away especially the music director Ennio Morricone whose bgm made him the legend.
I didn't think I'd see another comment talking about Josey Wales, that's a somewhat obscure one. But you're right, that was definitely up there as one of his best in my opinion too 👌
@@marshalljimduncan The story is that The Actor JOHN WAYNE absolutely detested that movie. I don't know why. HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER was an outstanding movie, yet another Eastwood Masterpiece! 😍
Sure it would. There are plenty of movies being made that reflect American reality, they just don't get advertised hard like the stereotypical Hollywood garbage.
This came out in 2008. I remember 2008. Seems like yesterday. But the character arc of this protagonist is that he's a cranky, unhappy old man. He says racist things to everyone, including the Asian woman in this scene, but has the kind of fundamental moral code also displayed in this scene. It's a similar story arc to Matt Dillion's character's in the 2004 movie Crash. It's too bad the political center has disappeared, and so many Americans like this Eastwood character were swayed to the right, to support extremist white supremacist politicians, instead of moving left, to progressive, anti-racist positions
And the, “You don’t f**king listen…”, channeled Harry Callahan’s, “You don’t listen, do ya a**hole…”, from Dirty Harry when he’s delivering the ransom money (with an open stiletto taped to his leg) to a waiting Scorpio with his Swedish Type-K (or S&W M76) SMG.
When that movie first came out everyone said Clint was imitating my dad !! He looked just like Clint at that age . He fought in Okinawa then again in Korea .One Saturday (1973),I was 8 ,we went to a gun store . In a flash he pushed me out of the way and pulled his 45 on two guys that came in the rob the shop . He and the store owner disarmed them & pistol wiped them before the police came .. I mean they tripped ! He said that he did it in case the judge did not dispense justice . Never had to repeat himself & spanked me when I deserved it …kept me on the straight and narrow . Thanks dad!
They aren’t “stereotypes” if they apply to and are just facts pertaining to at least 51% of that race! But you’re right about what she’s pointing out… they perpetuate ALL the “stereotypes” they say we have of them! (Again) that kinda proves that they AREN’T STEREOTYPES!!! It’s about their attitude and just plain ungrateful nature…do they really think they’d be better off staying in Africa? That civilization created slavery!!! They had more of a chance being enslaved…had they all been left there! White men died by the thousands to END SLAVERY yet they still are ungrateful for that sacrifice and their freedom… they wake up “offended” and live in the perpetual pity party…and will guilt trip their way into every situation they can! It’s in their nature to be unhappy and miserable!!!
My old school Carstens Elementary can be seen in the background , I was a student there in the 60s and lived across the street. This scene was filmed around the corner from where I lived ..
@@GreenRiver72 I had both black and white friends, the school was probably over a thousand students and never any mention of bigotry or color , of course it was a different world back then we got along with each other unlike today . Kids are taught to hate each other, sad country today ...
@@dkizxpt-su3zeI mean... I remember something about him being in a plane crash and swimming a few miles back to shore... that's interesting, but I struggle to call it 'bad ass'... I also recall he was a lifeguard at an army swimming pool at the time and was also the guy who loaded training films into projectors, all this while a major war was going on, which is the literal opposite of being a badass... let me know if you heard of any badass thing he did that I'm missing 'cause so far he's coming off as seriously lame
They talk inappropriately to her and put their hands on her friend and then have the audacity to act offended when she gives them a dose of their own medicine. Always carry a pocket knife.
Maybe knives and pepper spray is good for people who can’t legally carry guns. But there’s a reason Clint’s character pulled out a gun and not a knife.
Legend has it, all three enlisted in the Marine Corp, got a GI Bill funded college degree and today are Republican venture capitalists rebuilding the community.
Republicans only destroy communities. Venture capitalists are working in hedge funds, buying up properties in Detroit, creating scarcity, causing gentrification, causing my property taxes to go up and making it impossibly for you to afford a house and afford rent. Never mention the word Republican in Detroit. Not ever.
Yes, that came to my attention as well. I understand that they also did significant outreach in educating on non-binary issues, Latinx spelling concerns, and pre and post Vegan sustainability challenges both in terms of local identity issues and broader, non-binding stress fracture arbitrage opportunities.
In real life, the three thugs on the corner would be considered victims of poverty, capitalism and systemic racism and the old man would have gone to jail.
Only one of the two candidates running would have that opinion. And that candidate raised bail for rioters whose charges were dropped because of that candidate’s pressure. I won’t vote for that candidate that perpetuates this condition in real life.
@@Mightiflier She is just a reflection of the general platform of her party. Over in the very state and I believe even the county she was DA in, they are now fining business owners for their businesses being unsafe due to being damaged by thugs during those little "street takeovers" instead of those thugs who did the damage. Coddle/reward the perpetrator, punish the victim. That's what would happen here if this were real life. "Can you believe that racist yt man pulled a GUN on three blk teens???" That's exactly what they did to Kyle Rittenhouse too.
At Clint's age he knows how to play cool, tough old guys, like in "Unforgiven","Cry Macho", and this movie. He's still the same Clint Eastwood from the Dollars Trilogy spaghetti westerns of the 60s all the way up to the more recent cinemas, just older.
He’s too old to try and be tough like that. In the real world those three thugs would have overpowered him when he turned his back on them when he was getting back into his truck.
Really great message in this movie. Everyone was hating on the Asians, but they ended up being friends with the old man, and other characters in the story.
The whole message of the movie is that the old guy realized his whole life was a mistake….and the only people that accepted him were people that had no history or knowledge of him being a total asshole.
If this was a real life scenario, those three guys are probably dead or incarcerated. Boredom, no direction, no purpose, ignorance, and of course no father or father figure creates terrible and dangerous people like that. I love the way the Asian girl stands her ground with those cruel POS’!
The best, just the best. I'm writing this in September 2024, and this is what America urgently needs more of right now: moral clarity, plain truth, and actual justice. Notice in this clip how real strength and genuine courage *prevented* violence.
I tried the, " What are you spooks up to" When I was on the West side of Chicago going North on Cicero at gladys street. There was 4 of them congregating on the corner, It didn't work out too well for me because they pulled out a gun and I just got out of there.
Hero Clint Eastwood fixed so many social ills in the movies giving people a sense of satisfaction and release producing the illusion that someone was fixing the problems in real life
The scene is all wrong. Clint Eastwood wasn't even there when Scott was saying "bro"... Clint Eastwood arrived to the intersection AFTER the bro scene happened. Movie mistake.
The thing here is this is truth. If a white man is in a black neighborhood, this is the kind of stuff that happens. If a black man comes to a white neighborhood we say hello we smile and we have a conversation with them! So, who's the racist?
How common is this in this day and age? I'm sure vast majority of young black people are just chilling, doing normal stuff. Like sure, I believe places like LA, Boston, etc can have these, but in general?
@@Vario69Boston and L.A. are not even close to the same level of seediness. Boston's barely more dangerous than most major Canadian cities, and actually safer than a couple.
In real life they would have surely been strapped, and as old and slow as he was in this scene it wouldn't have taken much to overpower him before he was able to pull his weapon. He was just way to close. If he was another 50 feet away then sure. He probably could have pulled this off ONLY IF they didn't have guns too.. it was just unrealistic honestly
@Spiritof_76 right but you see my point right? I see that if they are softies that would have been possible but in reality this guy wouldn't have stood a chance as close as he was to them
@@zebduffey5698 That's film. Do you realize how bad the shots would look if he stood a safe distance back? They wanted close ups and angles with all the characters in view. Do you watch all movies like they are documentaries? You should see how bad ass this guy named John Wick is.
@@zebduffey5698 It's all about who was willing to escalate the situation first. Once he pulled the gun out you did have the drop on them. If they're instincts were to rush them from the get going it would have been screwed.
It was a common thing back in the early 2000s, every white boy was sagging his pants and trying to pretend to be black in my school. 'Bro' was popularized by blacks, probably why I never said or say it. The integration of rap culture into pop culture has been complete for a decade now. But back then, it was common for whites to try to act very black.
The three young guys were met with someone who would not hesitate to pull the trigger, yet he showed self control, thereby controlling the situation with that .45 auto. Hopefully they took a valuable lesson from this incident (even though it was just a movie).
At today's time, he could've shot any of them and he might even get away with it. Dudes' definitely won't run to the police and tell them what really happened, considering what they were really doing prior to what happened.
