Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained, and as voted for by everyone in the latest poll, today we’ll be exploring Bram Stoker's Dracula.
The 1992 Gothic horror directed by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the 1897 novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, which is arranged in epistolary format; told through diaries, letters and telegrams written between the main characters.
Dracula is one of the most famous pieces of literature, with many of the characters simultaneously entering popular culture and remaining there as archetypal versions of their characters; from the infamous Count Dracula who is the quintessential vampire, to Abraham Van Helsing, the quintessential vampire hunter.
Starring Gary Oldman as Count Dracula in a captivating performance that is matched by the gravitas of Anthony Hopkins as Professor Abraham Van Helsing, and including a supporting cast of Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker, Winona Ryder as Mina Murray, Richard E. Grant as Dr Jack Seward, Cary Elwes as Lord Arthur Holmwood, Tom Waits as R. M. Renfield and Monica Belluci as one of Count Dracula's brides - it follows a group of friends connected by tragedy that team up to halt Dracula’s plan of taking over the world.

My favorite high school teacher loved this film so much, I had to watch it twice. Once in English class, and the other in Creative Writing. The class periods were only three apart, so that was a VERY redundant week. Good movie, though. He let me borrow the soundtrack CD in apology for making me watch it repeatedly, which I burned several copies of before returning it. :3 Awesome cast, aside from Keanu's weird accent. It's so strange to see Tom Waits in an acting role, but he does really well.

This was my first Gary Oldman film. He was absolutely captivating. He doesn’t get enough recognition period. He is incredibly talented. Fun fact Gary Oldman has used a different voice for every character. You can get lost in the character and only stop and realize afterwards it was him. That is acting at its purest. You bring the character to life.

There was a lot of flaws in this. Particularly when Mina comes to see Lucy when she really fell sick, when Val Helsing is already there, If you look to the left of the shot when Mina is coming up the steps, you literally see Anthony Hopkins and the other actor just standing there until she got to the top, and they proceed with their lines, walking into the shot. Still…. It’s still a fantastic film.

I'm going to admit this is a personal favourite version of Dracula. With the immortal Bela Legosi (pun INTENDED) he is a monster in the guise of a mortal man. Gary Oldmans depiction is the man behind the Monster, so full of fire, passion, cunning, charm, some sympathetic background but equally terrifying in his fury, intent & darkness! The tragedy of Dracula's lost love sent him over the edge into horrendous paths & damning actions.

Just saw a 30th anniversary, 4k restoration of this in the cinema, first time I've seen it on the big screen since the original release. Works so much better on the big screen as it has so much visual style - Coppola packed it with homages to so many other films, clever use of colour schemes in lighting and costume, amazing score, it rewards a revisit. Some elements could almost be cheesy, but Oldman and Hopkins carry it.

In the novel, the way I see it, Dracula is basically the intersection of a bunch of powers and bloodlines. Implied to be a student of the Scholomance, the Romanian school of Black Magic presided over by the Devil. Also coming from the bloodline of the Szekely's (whom Dracula claims come from the blood of Wodan and Thor themselves), he also claims relation to the mighty Norse Berserkers (men who could allegedly wear the skin of wolves into battle, which ties into Dracula's control over wolves). All that, plus his vampirism, the origin of which is never specifically stated (whether he is the first vampire created by Satan himself or just the definitive apex of the species). AND let's not forget the very real-life historical figure of Vlad the Impaler, adding in Stoker's historical fiction element. So yes, he's a bunch of old powers and bloodlines mixed. Very similar I think to Dune's Paul Atreides, how he is the heir to House Atreides, a skilled Mentat, and the Bene Gesserit-trained fulfillment of their Fremen prophecy (Kwizatz Haderach/Lisan al-Gaib/The Mahdi)

Dynamite!!! What a fantastic review of one of my all time favorite movies. I remember seeing this one in the movies while living in NYC on the upper east side. What a great experience. Not too many Dracula adaptations are even entertaining. In my opinion this one is the best

Never watched this or intend to watch it thanks to you explaining it. After seeing how close Dracula Dead and Loving It followed this movie..I'll just rewatch it and it's comedic gold.

The bit the story leaves out about Vladimir Tapesh is that he was actually betrayed by his own king because he was starting to become popular so the king handed him over to the enemy with them promising that after they had the dragon/devil they would totally not invade, and after they had Vladimir they of course betrayed the king and invaded the lands that Dracula had been protecting then they proceeded to say whatever they wanted about him because back then there was no world news to report on what really happened.
