Ive never took a sip of starbucks coffee...infact i dont even like coffee...but still i wanna try it atleast once...and its clearly cuz of its social media marketing.but i think what he wanna say is sales are not completely dependent on just advertising and brand building...loyal consumers are more important with it and it happens with the quality of product.i agree
Absolutely i disagree with his point building a brand is the biggest element or a crucial element of marketing people build brand so that general public can buy their products blindly still that product is not worth of the price but they have made their brand name so strong people will still buy it
Brand building is different for all businesses. Imagine a company without any marketers and excellent sales team. The. Haines reach will be very limited.
The problem is that thinking marketing is all about just changing brand elements and colors and symbols. Its much more than that, its about how frontline workers behave, how the overall culture of a company is, and how, it infiltrates every part of a brand. You should read the 6 Ps of marketing which it the absolute basic of any marketing course.
He tried to sound cool! Like in those podcasts but really chose the wrong example! People literally go to Starbucks for it’s branding. Most of them go there to click a snap of their mug (Part of branding design), with logo visible, your name written. People buy their expensive mugs, you know why? Not cuz the staff called their named and asked them to buy lol! They buy it, cuz they “LOOK” good, because of all the branding on those mugs. So stupid. And blud is an investor LMAO
But the employee have been told to greet and serve coffee by calling the consumers by their names. To build the connect with the consumers therefore it is a marketing strategy. The starbucks employee world wide did not call each other to say " hey i tried this and the consumer liked it so u also start following". Ofcse it was well thought marketing strategy to stand out and to build the connect. Where as branding is part of marketing and not complete marketing. and indeed an integral part of marketing.
All he himself does is mass marketing! They keep sending you texts about these offers but actually they are just offering you average products. He doesn’t have a brand, it’s just a marketing play to keep people buying more and more.

Completely wrong here. Much before people knew that starbucks writes name on cups, they wanted to walk in due to its prestigious brand value, built by solid marketing. Infact writing names is part of marketing strategy. After that, it would be product, that gets the consumer back again. U could have a cold coffee anywhere, but you spend that extra money, that too for a self service coffee shop, due to its brand image, (built by marketing).
Brand building is a marketing endeavor. Open a marketing book. read the index and you'd know what marketing is about. Its about creating the company culture, its about creating a front end culture, its about moderating and adapting every touch point a customer can interact with the brand. That includes their stores, their social media, their company work culture, and everything the customer knows about the company. So, how is brand building different from marketing? God forbid if he has 2 different departments, one for brand building and other for marketing in his company. He's true that starbucks is showcased through its front end employees. Yes. they have a 'code of conduct' book for that, and guess what, that's made by marketing dept.
They call you by your name because you go to Starbucks very often while most Indians can't afford Starbucks everyday. So very few people are regular customers. People go to Starbucks only for Instagram post.
But we can definitely say that marketing plays a really important role ! As suppose Starbucks is new so very few people know that they call your name and right your name on the glass This thing we know only through marketing ! So marketing plays an essential role . Starbucks is a social climbing brand. You go there, not because the coffee is fantastic or your cup has your name, you go there to show people around you that you belong to a certain class- with your MAC laptop on a Sunday when you have absolutely no work to do apart from posting it on social media. It's a brilliant yet pretentious branding strategy and it is definitely brewed by a bunch of brand marketing people.

Yes and all of this is part of the brand and service experience. Branding and “brand building” spans far beyond recognition of a logo and trade name. It is the core and personality of your brand and everything Starbucks does builds that personality and brand loyalty. I think too many people think of a brand as its visual identity, and that could not be further from reality. This video doesn’t have a ton of direction or sound logic to it haha.
