I would say Apple did the best in customer retention from all perspectives of social identification(people tend to think better of themselves or the others if they use Apple electronics), Premium qualities /service, and they smartly built up a barrier to create their own IOS ecosystem including all the auxiliary products, which firmly secured the customers.
