I idolize Ralph Lauren not for the classy clothes he makes but for the caliber of gentleman that he is. Even after coming into his own and creating his own brand he is still a very humble individual that enjoys what he does which is very admirable.
When someone has $8 billion to play with, throwing a few million at a charity to have their name put on it (and getting the tax write-off in the bargain) isn't so impressive. Mark Zuckerberg did that here in San Francisco. 🤷♂
This was a phenomenal interview. I have always loved his clothing. It doesn’t matter if your dressing up or down…his collection’s had something for both. He took care of everyone. ♥️
“But remember it’s how the clothes make you feel” This is why Ralph is my favorite designer.. I’ve watched this interview a million times and every time I get more and more inspired.. I went from if it wasn’t polo I didn’t want it now I can go to Walmart buy a shirt throw a polo hat on and find some 20 dollar jeans and have more drip than someone with a Gucci fit on 🤷🏽♀️
He's not a designer; he's a decorator. Designers actually _design_ clothing. He has assistants who actually design things, and then he approves (or disapproves) their designs.
I LOVED getting hand-me-downs from my older sister. She was such a trend setter in her own way, so whatever she passed down to me, I thought it was better than something brand new. It had her seal of approval. She only passed it down because it didn’t fit her anymore.
LOVE Ralph Lauren. He has exquisite taste. I have been wearing his clothes ever since I was in my teens. My son was raised in Ralph Lauren clothes and still wears them. This man is the Einstein of tasteful fashion. Forget Armani, Channel, PRada and all those clown clothes that no one can wear in public. Ralph Lauren is the real deal!!!
Wonderful man with no pretense. I’ve always loved his clothing, furniture etc but only recently had my own epiphany - he’s a great man with a great wife and family and he wants what we all want. How I missed that for so long, I don’t know.
In 1982 I chose a Ralph Lauren, beautiful jacket and suit pattern. My mother made it for me in a deep blue velvet and I wore it for my quinceanera party. I was given the choice of a big party or a two week trip to Costa Rica and chose the trip. I have since the continued to appreciate craftmanship and elegant design. I love to embroider, aman amateur callligrapher and quilter. Next I want to learn to make lace in the traditional manner from Galicia, Spain. Thank you Mr. Lauren I like you even more now that I know your from the Bronx - generations of hard working, no nonsese, good folks. :) God bless you.
Ralph Lauren is among my top 3 most admired people. I love his beautiful wife, Ricky, and what they have created in relationship. I returned to college at 48 and did a presentation about Ralph Lauren. I drove from Texas to the Double R Ranch gate(s) near Telluride CO to get photos. I’ll never forget that road trip and how I felt standing there in awe of the beauty. BTW, I was wearing my favorite Ralph Lauren red thin-wale corduroy pants with vintage cowboy boots. 😉
I adore Ralph Lauren not only for the greatness of fashion, it's timless and we both have roots in Belarus and almost the same last name. I'm so in love .
Wow, quite surprised that she seems to be so incredibly comfortable being rude and critical to someone who she seems to not have a relationship with at all.
Wonderful interview. I’m always annoyed when pretentious people out there pronounce “Lauren” with a French inflection. He’s one of our iconic American designers, people!
Seems like a really down to Earth type of guy. The type I believe that I could really sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and a bit of conversation with.
@@steelstreet3765 Funny you should ask this question now because just a few days ago my wife bought me a flannel shirt that I wore yesterday but it was purchased from Amazon........still
I bought the giant RL coffee table book (ISBN 0847837432) a few years back. I never tire of flipping through the pages. Not only great fashion but a great structure to the book.
Ralph is always so down to earth. Classy and caring...he’d be just as happy without tons of money. He’s about lifestyle and living your life with a vision. I’ve always enjoyed that. You can call it advertising, yes, but he lives it as well. Hemingway Fishing in Key West...he did two Sportsman collections focused on this lifestyle among many many others....all fun stuff. He’s a family Man with great American Style. Truly successful people do things because they are passionate about... and make money as a result...it’s not always their primary focus. I’ve always enjoyed the photo of him when he was a young boy wearing the Military Jacket with a Moose sweater....he had that vision for his own style...then created the Polo lifestyle after. I’ve been collecting Polo since 1993 and I enjoy it as much as Ralph did creating it.
In Brazil, we have a big problem with fabrics and colors. During the summer is really hot and we cannot find suitable clothes for really hot wheather. We need to use white and blues colors (cool colors) and cotton.
Well would you look at that, a KMart flannel shirt that lasted for so many years. It kind of shows you that quality and long-lasting clothes are not confined to ones that costs an arm and a leg
Well, “Ralph Lauren” does convey aspiration much better than “Ralph Lifshitz.” His fashion empire has suffered of late and I was truly saddened to see the Polo/Ralph Lauren store in Cherry Creek Mall close. And there was that extremely unfortunate and ill-advised collaboration with Melania Trump. Still, the brand survives, barely, and I buy many of his offerings albeit at some far-from-posh retailers like Macy’s and Dillard’s. And, for the true aficionado, a visit to the flagship stores in NYC or Beverly Hills is a treat. Ralph deserves his success and I only wish him the very best.
Becky Armady 😂😂😂. He oversaturated the market himself. RL is a shell of what it once was in its early 90’s heyday. The company is now known for cheap fabrics and lazy designs.
Dear ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for the typographical errors in my comment below. I hurt my hand and was trying to type with only one hand. Practice makes perfect.
Polo Ralph Lauren as a company has been in a steep decline the past 2 decades. It all started when the company went public in 1997. The quality(or lack thereof) is comically bad nowadays. Its sad seeing what has become of a brand that at one point had such an allure. RL went from being a trendsetter to chasing trends. Smh.
