My grandfather had a ranch south of town. I couldn't wait till I got old enough to start helping out. But when I was around 7 my grandfather sold his ranch. To some degree I felt cheated. Then in my mid-40s when the economy collapsed I moved back home and we had a small piece of land that nobody was using. So I asked if I could build something on it. I built a small cow calf operation and I built a small horse training operation. For whatever reason around 2012 my aunt realized that I had increased the value of her property and so she sold it from under me. I had 2 weeks to sell everything. Wrenching was the best life ever lived. I was the boss so I can work at whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Nobody was going to complain if I was too slow. I self taught myself most of the stuff I did. Even taught myself to weld. I built all my shelters and my corrals. Well of course I built on my fences. So yeah when that life got taken from me what a shame. Anyways I've enjoyed watching your program and even more so now that you're on RU-vid. In a way it's almost like I'm back there again when I watch your videos and other ranch videos that I watch. Thank you.
Maybe try getting your own land and resources. Its nice to inherit, but someone somewhere has to build the life. You come across as a whiner, who all the failure in life is because of someone else. I don't even have you know you personally to visualize you as the user loser type.
Otto, I've been watching you since the days of Discovery. Took me a while to find the Kilcher family on RU-vid. So happy to see y'all doing well. Much love to you and your family. ❤️🙏
I just love the way everyone up there works together when there's a job to do. If that was August behind the camera, you need to get him in front of the camera more. We like to see how your whole family is doing up there.
Cougars are fun too..... just not when work needs done...So opt for the Bobcat....you made the correct choice today.... lols....You have an awesome Cougar so your living the life of Riley. Whomever Riley is...
So great seeing you again! We have seen ever episode several times of Alaska the last frontier. Sure wish there could be another series. Again thanks for sharing your stories! Keep them coming
Hey Otto!!! My husband and I are country folks and self made folks like you and Charlotte. My husband 82 years old still building motorcycles and chopping wood. We have watched your whole family since first discovery episode so glad you are on the tube it's pretty much all we watch we hate mainstream and at least we can tell ya how we feel bout you whether you read it or not. We are still big fans
Nice to see Polar Bear. I was the ship fitter super when she was built in Tacoma. Still have a set of corrected blueprints for her. The guy the owner hired to redraw the prints so the USCG would accept them had no clue. The friend I hired to run the fitters and I redrew the bow and tank drawings so they could actually be built. I drug up just before the house was fitted to the hull due to conflict with the owner.
Just got lucky the YT algorithms popped the channel. You probably hear it alot, but been a fan since the early discovery days. I'll be sure to click the button on Atz's channel. God Bless.
Yes, Otto I'll bet you have been in and out of the harbor a time or two! I remember you docking the Mary M once-your Dad was beside you on the bridge coaching. I'm thinking it was in the late 60's or early 70's. I too remember when the harbor was just a pothole at the end of the spit. The harbor wasn't much and as I recall we used to offload crab to a DKW.
Those new skid steers can be super finicky. I've been in some where you need to slam that glass so hard you worry you're going to break it a roughly $1400 windshield. Adjustments fix this but with all the stupid safety sensors for the door, the bar, the seat, they can be a pain. We used to bypass all that junk, but I've been told some of the newer tractors need to see a reset signal from safety switches to operate. I am not a fan but, when parts run out, there's only so much a person can reasonably do to keep things running. Anyway good work. Cool to see a boat like that working. We use a smaller 24 ft version for recovering sunken and derelict vessels off the Washington coast.
Otto, you could have lift the gate up on the boat enough to raise the front of the bobcat up, then put some cribbing under the front of the tracks, lower the gate, back the boat out, then drive the bobcat off the cribbing, what have only taken a couple minutes, so you wouldn't have had to worry about the tide
If its anything like the model in the uk the door has to be closed on the sneck and then u press the gate button on the control panel before it will allow u to move the bucket it's to save u smashing the door .... u might find if u unplug the door harness it will then work as we used to take the door on and off depending on who was hiring the machine to save them breaking the glass ..... the rubber seal on the door is to tough and is a fight
@rockkhound943 I just can't remember think there was a patch plug for when u undo the door but in reality if the slacking the shaft for the sneck and move it towards the bucket more it should latch and work anyway
Great video Otto, watched all your videos several times on discover and subscribe to your u tube now to see the latest and greatest, from Texas where its warm.
So why didn't the bucket go up? If it was said I didn't hear it. Those are great farm machines and with forks on you can lift stuff way up there. Great video. Still got that ol' slobberin' Detroit runnin'. Thanks Otto!
Just being good neighbors. That what we used to call it. Like a good old fashion barn raising. Where did those days go. Now everyone will only charge you. I still step in to help. Even if they charge me.
Otto try using some plywood sheeting underneath of that Bobcat if it's still stuck with 2x4.,or 2x6 boards underneath of the plywood to build up stability structure to lay down the plywood on for strength and road way.
Try wearing the seatbelt in the bobcat next time. Looked like it was in limp mode. Either way the job got done. Just my opinion. These fuckn vlogs are amazing! 👏 I just came from your sons channel. Keep using this platform and show us how it really happens. Thess new vlogs are so much better than the tv show.
Facing the challenges of a brand new Bobcat stuck with the tides coming in Alaska’s Kachemak Bay showcases your incredible resilience and resourcefulness. The way you navigate such tough situations on the Last Frontier with calm determination is truly remarkable and inspiring. And I am Floating Village Life, Hit follow and let's explore together!
No question at all, the good and praktikal top solution under pressure, but what good is a bobcat that can't lift it's bucket? Or didn't I get the memo, why not? 😶
