Aloha , I have been to Hawaii three times, but I have never made it to this restaurant. Looks like , I will have to put it on my bucket list for Las Vegas . The dessert looked delicious. You looked so happy eating one 🥰
I’ve been to Zippy’s in Honolulu and like their Zip Pac combo. I will be sure to try the LV location next time I’m there. Thanks for the tasty video, wish I had some Zippy’s for breakfast right now!
I don’t believe you’re supposed to eat each item separately. Spam and the other related Hawaiian food can be a bit salty so it’s best to take a small amount of the protein portion and then at the same time eat some macaroni and rice. Same for the chili. The experience is eating the chili with rice.
The portions are big in at the Las Vegas Zippy's probably because that's the tradition of a typical Hawaii plate lunch. Plus, ingredients are probably a lot cheaper than in Hawaii. That same dish would be a littlle smaller at Hawaii Zippy's.
Glad you enjoyed Zippy's. It's not standard for the continental U.S. but for the locals in Honolulu, it is a local chain that everyone goes there during some part of their lives. The menu has changed over the years and has increased they started, but if one thinks about teenagers grabbing a bite to eat after a movie and such, grabbing a teri burger and bowl of saimin as a meal was something plenty of people did. The Chili is one thing, try their Chili Spaghetti with garlic bread. Simple but filling. They usually have saimin and won ton min, Portuguese Bean Soup and Jook, plus Ox Tail Soup. Naples and Malasadas are good, but they have other desserts as well.
You should also try the Chili -Fried Chicken Mix with rice and mac salad. We usually eat the chili on a bowl of rice. I don't think anyone eats chili by itself. My favorite is the Korean fried chicken, but a little healthier dish is the Korean fried chicken with salad. The haupia or dobash cake (if they have it) are also good desserts, but I usually go for the Apple Napples!
You gonna need to explain what "jook" is to them. Jook is the Cantonese word. Zhou (Joe) is the Mandarin word. Folks not familiar with Chinese culture not gonna have a clue. 😉
@@jonh.7661: It's not common outside of China/Hawaii cultures that it might be familiar with. Zippy's does a Turkey Jook with char siu and Chinese Parsley, but some of the best Jook (Rice Soup) had Chinese Roast Duck/Chicken, which the roasted flavor of the Roasted Duck/Chicken just made it spectacular. Other places had slice char siu, green onions, Chinese parsley, pickled daikon diced up. It can be a filling meal as when think of a soup as being watery, but best Jook that I've had was thick enough for a spoon to stand by itself, along with my mom making it with guava smoked turkey from thanksgiving. The smokey flavor of the turkey flavoring the base made from Smoked Turkey carcass, meat until it fell off the bones and then boiled with cooked rice, until it starts to dissolve and absorbed into the rice and smoked turkey is something else.
Great review~ I lived in Honolulu for 6 years in the 90s & really loved it & can't believe I can finally get malasadas outside of Hawaii!!! I also love their chili ~ it's just basic chili, but it was Hawaii's first taste of chili so the basic recipe just stuck. The chili makes me fart ferociously, but to me it's worth it even though it makes my co workers suffer.
If you both ever make it back here and they have it, get a slice of their Haupia cake (coconut cake, basically). I mean WOW!!! It was incredible. Light and fluffy (I'm referencing from when I lived on Oahu and went to a certain location). Their pumpkin pie is no joke, either. Oh, and the beef stew...mmm mmm goodness. Thanks, you two.
@@UpUpOurWay And also when they start adding more menu options that resemble the island menus... whoooo eeeeyyyy. I'd have smiled at having to wait 35-40 minutes, like "congrats, Zippy's, you made it".
Superb you tried Zippys LV! Good to have another Hawaii flavor in LV. I watched this while having Korean Fried Chicken and Chili combo plate from Zippys McCully, yum!
LOVED THE VIDEO GUYS. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ZIPPY’S AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TRIP TO THE ISLANDS. NOT A TON OF HEALTHY FOODS IN HAWAIIAN COOKING BUT SOME OF THE BEST FOODS EVER. I ALWAYS ADD A COUPLE OF FRIED EGGS ON MY CHICKEN TERIYAKI WITH SPAM AND RICE.. NOTHING BETTER. DID N-REEKY GET A BUNCH OF MODELOS THIS TRIP?
*IVE❤️ BEEN TO KAUAI MANY TIMES AND HAD THEIR FOOD THERE AND HERE EITHER THE FOOD IS UNDERCOOKED SUCH AS POKE,SUSHI,SASHIMI **anything uncooked Has to be really fresh or don’t touch it ‼️unhealthy foods such as WHITE RICE ,MACARONI SALAD , POTATO SALAD ,SPAM ECT. Are consumed largely on the islands + their are interesting facts & stories why & how they eat so much of those staples*** please check it out ! THE BEST FOOD IN HAWAII IS DEFINITELY THE COOKED BBQ PORK (KALUA) BBQ grilled baked seafood as long as it’s cooked to kill the parasites anything BBQ‼️is O.K. !🤙❤️
Food is awesome went there a few weeks ago, unfortunately someone had a seizure while we was waiting for our order, we tried helping because the security company they hired " uce protection group" didn't know what to do, very disappointed and sad on that part. But for the food experience was better. Anyways-I'm Happy they finally made it to Vegas, Hawaii locals hype it up so much because we miss the familiar taste of our childhood, but people who never had it expects so much, so the experience may get mixed reviews, this is our late night place to go especially after-hours because everything closes early in Hawaii. Its definitely not our 5 star restaurant but its our local brand with memorable dishes back home.
Every time I return from Vegas I would stop by Zippy's and pick up a Zip-Pak to eat when I get home. Who wants to cook a fresh meal when returning from a trip? Not me. However, I do add some kimchee to the tray.
Hawaiian style Eating , loads of Carbs Lots of Flavors Get you on to your Next Adventure , In the days Evenings , Ramien Noodles and Soups Asian Fusion Style foods , and The Napoleons. Bakery Sweets
Just stumbled on your video. Love the content. However, constructive feedback would be to not order 2 chicken dishes. It would have been nice if one of you tried the loco moco or some other non-chicken dish. With that said, I’m excited to try Zippy’s next time in Vegas. Good luck with the channel!
I've lived in Hawaii my whole life and never had a fascination with Zippys LOL! It was the go to place when I grew up only because it was 24 hours and in Hawaii there weren't to many 24 hour restaurants. But Zippy's now has become an L&L excpt L&L has different specials depending on which one you go to. Not saying there bad but if you wa to taste real authentic local food find a mom and pop restaurant that is still around. There are some that still exist but are GEMS and hard to find. Most local food trucks serve authentic local foods the kind you won't find in Zippys made with family recipes.
The idea behind the Korean chicken is to Submerge the chicken pieces in Korean sauce. Some locals like their Korean sauce w/little bit gochujang pepper sauce, similar to low-grade Tapatio/Cholula. Dunno what you meant, when tasting chili bowl, what you were expecting, taste-wise, when you said you were more "Hawaiian flavor/flair." Could you elaborate? Keep in mind, Zippy's only represents a Tiny slice of local Hawaiian cuisine. To Really, Truly experience cuisines of Hawaii, must, Must, MUST take a trip to the 808....A-L-O-H-A from Hawaii!
Aloha! I guess I just didn’t know what to expect from the chili 🤣. We should have tried with rice though. We have been to the islands 4-5 times and we love the food, so I totally get what you mean about this being just a small sampling. I think we need a trip back. Mahalo!
@@UpUpOurWay ...YES! You can plan 7-day food itinerary from different cuisines in Hawaii & you'll end up visiting different parts of Oahu, & the outer islands. You'll also come away few lbs Heavier, deeper understanding of local interwoven cuisine influence but still not have made a dent, historically and/or food-wise!-lol... A-L-O-H-A from Hawaii
I'll want to keep an open mind when eventually trying Zippy's, but TBH, based on what I see here, it seems to carry a bit of a Hawaii-meets-Denny's vibe to it. Definitely happy tho that they offer malassadas, a tasty little treat I've enjoyed every time I've visited the islands.
Personally as a local here in hawaii, my go-to hangover buster is an order of zippy's chili spaghetti lol. Dunno why but that always hits the right spot after a night of drinking. Actually had that in vegas last year when we were staying at the Cal, they use zippys chili at the cafe there so it hit just as good and effective as home 😂
They didn’t have chili spaghetti yet, but I’m intrigued! I like chili and I like spaghetti. Why not mix them? 😂 Yes, Aloha Specialties at the Cal is great!
Gonna wait until the hype die down before I pay a visit to Zippy's. No need to be fighting with baby screaming while I'm trying to enjoy my food. Great vid tho!
That’s good to know. It was way too much food for me. Enrique… he was fine eating all that food! 😂 He ate the rest of mine later too. I guess he really liked it!
