The one reaction channel where someone gets what they're listening to...pretty much every time. Super glad to see you reacted to this one. Brand New is outstanding, with a lot of contemplative songs; Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't, Millstone, and a lot more
I've just gone through all of their albums in order for the first time since I was a teenager. Science Fiction got me back into them and I'm so happy for this. They may be my favourite band. Each album is unique, with the last three being more or less their own genre, imo. First album is as emo as it gets, second album is a mix between emo and alternative rock, and the remainder is simply solid Brand New at their finest.
Brand new has been my favorite band since I was 12 (I'm 30 now lol) and they have had a strong fanbase but smaller and more niche than similar bands in the same genre so when I find content related to them it makes my whole heart sing. Thanks for this.
You nailed it. Listening to TDAGARIM is meant to be done in one sitting. Yeah, the album has certain songs that are highlights, but there are no weak moments on it. There are themes musically and thematically that are tied together or are recalled throughout the album, and the overall production of the album is INCREDIBLE. It’s mixed so well, and the instruments all sound just right for each song. I can’t gush over this album enough in that regard.
It is my favorite album of all time! Start to finish like you said. I never get tired of it. Growing up extremely religious it hits me so deeply. What an amazing lyricist and group. People always say Deja Entendu is their favorite but Devil and God is by far a masterpiece. Second on that list for me would be Science Fiction.
can confirm this was one of the best emo bands of this era... want to impress your cute emo crush? take them to a brand new show 😎 they are a fine example of how not every emo band needs a super whiney voice
The song is about the struggle the singer (Jesse) has with his inner self worth and the nature of his morality. Does he deserve redemption or condemnation. He uses the parallels of good and evil in religion and applies it to himself and his worth. I mean you could really do a deep dive line by line and dissect the whole thing. The author is full of doubt and darkness and like the album title is aware of the devil and god, good and evil, darkness and light that he wrestles with.
So, I randomly was looking for reactions to Brand New's "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows", and that led me to this video, which is weird because 20 minutes ago, I was looking to see if anyone has reacted to Mac Dre and also found your video. So at this point, you've covered two very different parts of my musical taste which are more cult following type scenes than mainstream. Well done, really exploring music in a broad range of genres, beyond the mainstream. Subscribed.
You really analyze some of these lyrics and I appreciate that. A lot of people tend to react to a music video instead of the song. This was very satisfying.
Awesome review. This song is very powerful and is up for so many different interpretations. I’m glad I stumbled across your channel, I subscribed and look forward to more reviews.
Damn right...comment regarding different interpretations! I was going to mention this to the OP as I think with a little guidance can become more than just a casual BN fan. I think you'd agree that many of their songs can take on personal meaning depending on the person. What makes it worth mentioning is that the depth of the lyrics and Jesse Laceys gift of turning deep verbiage with allusions to Shakespeare, owning the past, spiritual enlightenment and tramp ass ex girlfriends and best friends who sing like shit and talk shit after sleeping with his friends girl and complains lyrically that his friends wished him dead... Whether the last one is true or not (after all these years and getting a glimpse in JL head, I think it damn well could have happened) Back on task, Devil and God holds special meaning to me and a time period in my life where every ounce I weigh out to was tested and unfortunately the deep trauma and emotional investment that was too painful to address is something that hung around and concerned enough people that this year, 13 years later or so, I got diagnosis attached to that weight around my neck... embarrassed that I 'failed again', I've been able to make the first progress that didn't involve burying it (damn I sound emo). That album was released what seemed to be in conjunction with what I was experiencing. Start to finish the words seemed to tell my story and even limousine was no longer the story of a tragic end to a young life and instead described a specific event and relationship that was at the very center of the hell I was experiencing. These songs become part of our individual experiences and can create the soundtrack to the events that shape us. I am very aware and appreciative that this true for me. (shit... Good thing this isn't Twitter, y'all would missed how smart I'm feeling this morning xo)
Good stuff as always. Love this song and I'm glad you... tolerated it? Brand New is a special type of pick and I'm glad you got into it at least. I saw that head nodding, lol.
Just found your channel. So obviously a little late. But this song, and another called "Bother" by Stone Sour really...really...got me through the worst times in my life.
I absolutely love brand new. This song in particular which is totally a different vibe then thier first album which I also love. I've listened to this song countless times and still can't make it through without tearing up.
@@RudeLifeX I suffered really bad from fear and anxiety when i was a kid especially when it came to my fear of death and being brought up in a religious house i associated everything with God and spirituality so this song just really hits home for me. I hear the pain and emotional in Jesse's voice and i just feel it in my core especially in the end. "We all got wood and nails and turn out hate in factories". Its like hes saying we nail Jesus to the cross over and over at the rate of a factories production level. And even the last line "we sleep inside of this machine" I have had a repetitive nightmare my entire life about being stuck in this huge weird machine. This song just speaks to my emotions.
Just discovered this video it's so awesome to see the racial lines broken down between the music and how we can understand everything if we just put our minds to it : )
Big respect for anyone who got Brand New content up. 1 the illest shits that i realized fully this year, while goin to mad spots wit 2000s band music..never heard a single Brand New song so out in Long Island at an emo nite event i asked "yo why no Brand New? "They got cancelled man"...shit is trash 😔🤘🏻
