Dude the different outro and intro is like the best part. I love when Brand New plays with different feedback noises and effects like that (Vices, Bought a Bride, Missing You etc)
Greg Goat dude like i know its like totally radical its almost like its a completely different song maybe even like a brand new version of the older brand new like alright cowabunga dude
I am the only person on the planet who has ever thought this, I'm sure, but the intro to this version reminds me of the intro to Invisible Sun by The Police.
I used to be such a burning example, I used to be so original. I used to care, I was being cared for. Made sure I showed it to those that I love. I used to sleep without a single stir, 'Cause I was about my father's work. Well take me out tonight, This ship of fools I'm on will sink. I'm my own stone around my neck, Be my breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give. I used to pray like God was listening. I used to make my parents proud. I was the glue that kept my friends together, Now they don't talk and we don't go out. I used to know the name of every person I'd kissed. Now I've made this bed and I can't fall asleep in it. Well take me out tonight, This ship of fools I'm on will sink. I'm my own stone around my neck, Be my breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give. Throw me that lifeline, This ship of fools I'm on will sink. I'm my own stone around my neck Be my breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give. Never hit the brakes there's no time to save him, He just ran out in the street anybody know his name? I think I recognize him Sure as hell paid for that mistake Whoa. So take me out tonight. This ship of fools I'm on will sink. I'm my own stone around my neck. Be my breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give. To save my life tonight. This ship of fools I'm on will sink I'm my own stone around my neck Be my breath, there's nothing I wouldn't give.
Do you have the lyric books they released on their final tour too? These are the lyrics from my copy. I got the one for TDAGARIM & Deja Entendu. I wish I’d gotten the others.
I could have swore the lyric was "a millstone around my neck". It really works either way with a different locus of control. I like this version better regardless of if it is right or not. Is this the "alternative version" or have I been singing it wrong since the CD's release date?
i've always been a little bothered by the vocal delivery on this cut. sounds entirely too clean and really unlike anything they've ever released. especially around the lines "i'm my own stone around my neck / be my breath / there's nothing i wouldn't give", it just sounds so off and almost not even like jesse. either way, still a great alternate version. still prefer the album version, but given that this is a b-side version i'm sure the band does too.
That's because it's entirely clean. There's no reverb or eq or anything applied to the vocal track. It's completely free of distortion and it sounds weird because were used to this raw reverby type sound from him.
