@@mcrb1776 I didn't check that, but after I read your comment I checked. If you hold it as if it were laying flat, and give it a little wiggle, all the pieces will line up and center themselves.

@@DocP91B thanks for confirming. I was assuming that there would be a little weight on the compass that would always level it, no matter how un level you are holding it. That little wiggle you did seems to confirm that. It works like a, what is it again, ah, a gyroscope 🙂

The only problem is it will have to wait to wait just a bit because right now I only have two here with me - an XM-24 and a Project X. The rest are in a storage unit with my overall collection. Sadly. I used to have about four or five times as many as I have in my collection now. When I was still active duty I spent quite a lot of reenlistment bonus, deployment, and flight pay on them. About five years ago someone really close to me had a family emergency and really needed money in a hurry and a sold most of them to help her out.
