Does an engine overheat instantly, or is it a gradual thing? Just asking .... If an engine's temperature is climbing, can it be eased down a notch or two? If a yacht (ship, really) is bouncing over waves, can it be turned to run in troughs (as opposed to over crests)? Just asking .....
@jeffstock7819

@@davesmith5656 I'm far from an expert too, but If you turn perpendicular to the direction the waves are moving (waves hitting your sides), you're more likely to get swamped. I think you want to attack the waves either head on, or maybe a few degrees off from head on. Stern facing the waves I think also leads to bad things. Obviously...

Strange how they kept going at 60% power although the engines were overheating. What were the engineers doing in the engine room? Sleeping? And when the first engine quit due to sustained overheating, the logical thing to do was to throttle back the remaining engine to prevent that one from overheating. Especially in severe weather conditions you don't want to be without working engines, because that is a virtual death sentence for your ship. Yet they kept the second engine at a high power setting until also quit due to overheating. It doesn't compute.
@majortwit

Even with both engines usable but with overheating issues, seems they could have run one engine until it got too hot, then shut it down and restart the other one that had been off and cooling.

Signed off by four technicians, there's four men i wouldn't let near my bath tub no mind a vessel.

Interesting enough, why was chief engineer Laurent Clement, who had very little experience aboard Yogi (one and a half months at most prior to the sinking), why was he offered a Captain's job in the charter industry so soon after said accident? With hugely deep pockets and many reputations at stake (the shipyard, insurers, the owner, et al.) this stinks of a coverup and payoffs. Somebody got away with something.

90% of the energy and thought on this type of boat goes into the luxury amenities. The crew becomes not the best you can hire, but the best looking. The French Navy has lost battles sitting in port, so maybe investing in a vineyard is a better proposition.

I had to attend several safety trainings at work and what I remember is that a disaster seldom happens from one reason alone. Usually, multiple factors contribute to an accident or disaster if equipment failures and human errors happen in a certain sequence. When inspected in isolation, individual vulnerabilities may not be easily detectable, which may lead to a total failure if the conditions are right. After all, everybody thought that Titanic was unsinkable too. If it was deliberate, then it must have been planned well, to meet all the conditions to sink the boat and make it look like plausible to satisfy the inspectors. Putting lives at risk, of both the crew and rescue personnel would be also very sinister. It’s a curious event indeed.

When I was a commercial diver we had a "rule of three" - when three problems happened there was a significant chance of a complete system failure, whatever it was. That is why whenever a problem occurred we tried to fix it straight away and not wait for the other things to happen.

Hold on, this was a 48m boat, built to the latest spec. Plus, the sea state was only 7 in the Med. If he had pulled in to a weather harbour, I would question his ability (as it turns out, it needs questioning anyway). The staff clearly had no training, The French MV Flag Certs are about as good a Liberia or Panama. The Turks usually put together good ships and this was the second in its class, not the first. Therefore the shipyard would have ironed the kinks out on the first ship. As for this ship, the loss of power will make you feel like you are on a bobbing cork, yet the 1st Officer said he still had his trusters to put her Bow to the waves, his bow thrusters we're working, the ship was built with stablisers and a bow plane. You only have to look at the issues in the world where the upper was Greek or Turkish. Both are fond of abandoning ship at a whim.
@ForestGirlTeresa
@ForestGirlTeresa 4 года назад
Not every storm is correctly forecast for its severity. And if you are in open ocean there may be no time or opportunity to run for shelter. Weather can blow up pretty quick. If wave and wind action is very heavy it's best to point the bow into the wind. I don't understand how this vessel ended up stern into the wave direction. Usually if you lose power the boat drifts broadside to the wind.

I heard in a report that many modifications were carried out on the ship without the designers knowing about it, so that the ship did not have stability and then capsized in the rough sea.

If this was a brand new yacht and one needed to turn it back into money quickly, wouldn't it make more sense just to sell it? My understanding is that available "now" yachts are worth more than order for manufacture. This is based on another video by this RU-vidr.

🤔I believe it was ordered to be sank. It was sad to see such a beautiful vessel go down.😔😢 🙋🏻‍♀️🗣Here’s what I believe.... The girlfriend of the guy who was married to the lady who was having an affair with the other guy who was dating the woman who is best friends with the other woman who was married to the other guy but was seeking a divorce was seeing the guy who was best friends with a guy who was the brother of a another guy who went out twice with a lady who sometimes dated one of the guys who hung out with another guy who sold jewelry to one of the owner’s business associates who wore a beautiful watch that the captain liked was told by another person who had a crush on the owner and was soon to attend one the famous fabulous invitation only cocktail parties where you had to know someone who knew someone was dating one of the caterers of the party said they heard people talking and speculating that perhaps possibly it was actually the owner who mistakenly wanted it downed and washed clean with an awful lot of sea water to one day become a reef for the best polish for sea life, so the captain mistook that to mistakenly mean that the vessel should be drenched with water at high max speeds and strong winds in a storm so he suggested that the crew should have their passports and other important papers at the ready at all times in waterproof containers tied around their necks at all times so they could have them ready for their next assignments after this assignment, while they wore their orange anti-drowning uniforms just in case the vessel were to have it’s stern at the wind because those items including their lives are irreplaceable and they shouldn’t worry about any records because music is mostly digitally downloaded these days anyway and are easily replaced as long as you have your proof of purchase from Apple, alarm reports and written logs disintegrate in water over time any way, so they aren’t worth saving or necessary to save their lives or receive their pay and bonuses so the owner called his lawyers to call their lawyers and the insurer’s lawyers because that isn’t what he meant at all, he wasn’t even there because he was tending to other important business including how he could move things around on the chessboard so he would return the €143 euros to the L’Oreal heiress who was having problems with Alzheimer’s and because he realized he only bought it for his ego as a business, so he figured it was just as well that the eight (not to be confused with the hateful eight) took the final voyage of Yogi even though Boo Boo didn’t get to say bye because they were accustomed to using landline phones and couldn’t operate defective ship communication devices which resulted in them not being able to reach each others during the tragic emergency, but they were in great shape and could run really fast from the engine room to reach the captain at the bridge not only that, they didn’t really know how fast they were going. All they knew was they wanted to reach 500 meters below as quickly as possible while being rescued as quickly as possible before all of that happened because they were awful tired and wanted to bunker on land with their loved ones. That’s what I believe. 🤨

The sea there is max averages 100m. I have drived on the RMS Britannic (Sister ship of Titanic) sunk by a German submarine in WWI while it was being used as a Hospital ship, it was fully painted white with the Green Cross. The bottom there would allow a ship of that value to be successfully raised.

well-known shipyard...well-known design office... well-known equipment... certified by every possible institution that exists... some hard weather but it's curtainly not an apocalypse situation... an invester who doesn't have good reputation and needs quick & large cash at the time... isn't that so obvious?? I wonder if the insurance companies are that stupid to cover this amount of losses...

This was a charter boat ... with Zero Charters on the horizon it does not surprise me more of these "events" can start happening with Charter boats, specially those payed with huge leveraged bank loans. If the ship sinks .... Insurance money pays the bills ... there are no more liabilities ... no more problems ... the leveraged payments due will be passed to the Insurance and Bank.

While I am not sure about what happened, not that much of us can I do think something took place on purpose, maybe not intended to cause the sinking of the yacht though? Either it a) happened on purpose so that someone like maybe Stephan Corbi could tack advantage of the insurance money to help pay back his loan b) One of the crew needed help financially because they were sending money back home and so they are taking advantage of their own insurance money because of the shock of having to walk through waist-high water with the danger of the boat sinking at any moment and them having to choke underwater c) Although being chartered out, Yogi was a liability to Corbi and so instead of selling it, which might have looked bad on his side since there was a scandal about him paying back a loan and people might be beginning to wonder if he could afford to pay it back, he dumped it d) It was the fault of one of the crew members but Corbi doesn't want anybody to know. Whatever happened though I am pretty sure it was on purpose and not by accident.

The Titanic was not poorly designed, it was just damaged so badly modern, welded ships would probably also sink. They had no radar back then, today they would act different, because they could see an obstacle long before.

I have 2 ideas one, the caption was doing something illegal which caused malfunctions or caused him to 'mix up' the truth. the 2nd would be the caption was not paying attention, in his cabin or some were else on deck instead of the bridge which caused him to lie about the incident because he did not want to look bad and get fired. I do not think this was insurance scam because it would be to elaborate to orchestrate then look like an accident because they will investigate the sunken shipwreck for insurance and to see what went wrong. It would be much easer to pull off arson and make it look like an accident then sink a modern ship and make it look like an accident
