This is so impossibly good it is hard to believe. She channels the emotion of the songs she covers like no other. Brandi is ridiculous. She is the boss.
An album would not be enough for all her amazing covers. With several albums we could get great songs with so much better sound quality without the whistling and screaming.
This is the best female version of the song. Other covers are too sweet, they remove the raw emotion and desperation that the original singer put into it. I love that Brandi preserves that feeling of desolation and sadness.
I think this is the best version ever. Her facial expressions and ths emotions just makes it the best. I love this song and i think she has the best cover of it
This single performance is what I've always hoped every rendition of this song would be. It's numb, angry, frustrated, self-loathing, yearning, and despondent in the perfect way. Somehow it is never overwrought or untrue, and yet also feels like I'm intruding on something personal (much in the same way as her best performances of Hallelujah are).
Brandi is the real deal. If she wanted to she could do punk and make it work as great as her kind of alt-rock-country. I hope to god she has a long, long career and doesn't succumb to drugs or waco personality issues because if she does she'll break millions of hearts, which is, of course the reason why we all have them in the first place. Thanks Brandi keep playing and speaking to us.
Best female version?? Best any version you cant beat this chick and never will, look at the deep passion and remember this is live with actually pretty bad sound backup, and she still nails it, only she can do a better version.She's BEAUTIFUL.
Brandi Carlile What a miraculous singer. She must take a break ----she has worked and done more music than anyone I know, writing all her own songs and using a voice that is just extraordinary with its overtones. I so enjoy her voice and the way she creates beautiful inspirational music!!
Well apparently Yorke doesn't actually like the song so much; he called it "childish" and begrudges that that's the band's most famous song. Brandi doesn't seem to have such a sentiment,
You know, this is one of the few love-related songs that leaves the genders involved unspecified; personally, the song actually works better if listened to through the scope of a girl in love with another, heterosexual girl ... not the "creep" aspect per se, but the social separation becomes more substantial than if it's just an asocial guy (the unearned melodrama of the 2nd, I imagine is part of why Radiohead don't like the song themselves). Girl singing to girl actually solves the issue of the melodrama feeling un-earned. For context, I'm Christian Conservative, so it's kind of a weird suggestion / interpretation for me, but I think it elevates the song.
