Wow! I’ve never heard anyone attempt this masterpiece of Elton and Bernie’s, much less by a female voice! Brandi nails this and her arrangement of it is quite clever! Nice! Very, very nice!!
I had my Elton John CD collection, complete thru "Here and There", stolen... I'm still sick over it! Punks probably didn't even know a single song from that era, which was amazing! Tumbleweed Connection probably my favorite. Some of those are out of print, the replacements are cheap, no liner notes. Thankfully, I still have a bunch in Vinyl for that content.
A Taupin and Elton masterpiece which no-one should ever attempt without severe caution. Brandi and her band nail it with their arrangement and delivery. Capturing the original energy, it delivers the passion and chaos of both the lyric and music....... it takes me back to 1971 and my first listening of this classic and now 51 years later......... another glimpse of the Madman across the water.
Yes, Brandi and her band nail it. Almost shocking: she demonstrates she's a better singer than Elton... in a way, he is dethroned... not really, though. EACH of their versions ascend to the heavens.
There are no words to describe how great this song is covered. Vocals, band, strings nail it. One of Elton and Bernies greatest songs and this doesn't disappoint!
It is easy, if the band is good, just throw in a string section and your song or cover will pretty much be a definite two thumbs up. NOW, before you blast me, please reread what I wrote and "think" about it. I am NOT saying any cover or original song can be made great by the simple addition of strings. The band has to be GOOD for those strings sound amazing... BAD= BAD...
This is not an easy song to cover....very few have attempted it. Brandi (and the band) kills it and reminds us of what a great song/gift this was from EJ.
my lead player and myself have been doing this tune for many years and quite well but when we both heard brandi do it I felt like an amature compared to this girl . very powerful voice and stage presence. love her
A very tight band that really jams well together, unreal cover version of a great song. At least to me it will be tough going back to the original because of how effin good this was.
@@jimrauh3584 honestly tonight is a quirky kinda song. I don’t like the version for blue moves, but the live version from the “live in Australia” recordings, I like.
Killer rendition of a Elton John classic. Brandi executes another flawless homage to her hero, while her band delivers the goods like no other. The twins were immaculate and POW POW was right on time. The orchestration was just the cherry on the top! Thank you guys.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I love Elton John and am usually very critical of covers - so many are so bad. But this is brilliant. Spectacular vocals, and amazing arrangement that manages to be faithful to the original while being totally fresh and new at the same time. Just, friggin' WOW!
I agree 100%! Elton John is one person that not too many can do his songs any justice. She’s hands down one of my favorite singers. Has been for years.
I like it that she walks over in front of the string section and the camera follows her and she moves out of the way to put them in the spotligt. She does this a couple times. Then she lets the twins take center stage. A truly great performer lets all the stars in the band shine.
Echoing nearly every other comment, this is an outstanding performance of a challenging song that captures the essence of the original and takes it into the stratosphere. Brandi and band deserve accolades.
My adopted dad passed away on May 5th, from COVID-19. He was 92, but lived a great life. He loved Elton John, and CSN. While he and I never got to an EJ concert, he took me to see CSN three times during the 1970’s. I have him to thank, for the wide range of music that I like!
As a musician myself I have no words to describe how awesome her performance of this song is. This is my favorite Elton John song and I've never tried to cover it in all of my 56 years. THAT ought to tell you something and I've been a drummer playing a double bass kit for most of those years.
The drummer here is pretty top notch, and he beats them like they stole his money. Overall a great song that many will not touch. Fucking awesome, no reason this is not played more, does anyone have taste anymore.
First time I have ever heard this woman sing...chills on my back. She takes this song seriously. WOW. WOW. WOW. Who even attempts to sing like this? Mother of Gaaawd.
ej b oh you’re gonna get addicted like the rest of us..lol..she can sing and cover so many different genres..and can harmonize w anybody...Search duets or covers for more
WOW, what a performance by Brandi Carlile a classic rock song by one of the greatest classic rock singers ever, Elton John!!!!!!! I bet this makes Elton very proud!! Brandi Carlile doesn’t get the credit she is due for her fantastic talents as a musician!! Beautiful song all the way around!!
Janis Joplin said that you've got to "lean into the music" . In this performance, she leans in and shoves it with both hands. Great performance all around. Let's not forget the outro guitar solo that draws blood.
no doubt about it . brandi nailed this song like no one can . this girl is without a doubt one of the best of the best female artists of our time period !
Is that all? Just a 100, now you have me worried due to I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched it. You’ve got me asking myself, do I need therapy...lol Stay safe my music friend, greetings from Orange Beach Alabama
I never even thought I'd live to see someone attempt this song ...let alone CRUSH it!!! ....& I've seen Elton play it live 2ce ....awesome work lady!!!
Awesomely tight band, killer vocals, stellar arrangement and all on a song most people don't have the balls to even play let alone make it sound like it's their own original composition. This is how covering a song is supposed to be. If you can't reinvent the piece and, yet, still pay homage to it then don't touch it. Bravo!
@@samcrawford5665 I certainly don't disagree that Sara knocked it out of the park in Atlanta! Let's just say Brandi *and* Sara epitomize what it means to give very powerful meaning to a cover as they make a song their own. . #Cheers
I've also been a fan of Elton's since I was 10 and Brandi redition gave the goosies. So does this one by Bruce Hornsby ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MAo5tAjumsA.html
Discovered this piece of absolute brilliance today. I've loved her music and especially her live creations (credit to her stellar band, too) before, but this is on a whole other level. This is a creation of the Divine Goddess dancing on stardust floating across a rainbow licked underneath by the flames of Hell.
Well that was unexpected. Been an Elton John fan since 1972, and as commented earlier this may be as good as the original or even better. Strings were better than the original and give it that ominous, haunted, "I'm sitting by a moonlit lagoon at night all alone" feel. Very, very, very good.
Never thought I’d hear a cover of this song. You gotta have guts to try it; and you gotta have the chops to pull it off. Lady, you and your band did it marvelously. Now I have to wonder why I have never heard of you and start listening to more of you. Wow… I’m impressed.
Yes. One of Taupin's best. And Elton complemented the lyrics perfectly with this masterpiece. Together, along with the vocals, you have what's needed for one unforgettable stroke of genius.
I am 62 and can't believe I just "discovered" Brandi. I have been having a Zeppathon all day and somehow ended up here after listening to Neil Young. She really brought something to the table. (Always been a Bonnie Raitt fan,) They all blew my face off.
She is a genius singer. Period. So wish today's supposedly great crop of singers had a tenth of the emotion she puts into every song / performance. Again, pure genius.
Seattle Girl with strong band taking on one of the greatest songs in the last 50 years know to common folk.... Brandi Brings the Heat and the Twins deliver the goods... I am Impressed!!!
I don't really care for most Elton John songs, just not kind of music. But "Madman Across the Water" is an unbelievably great song. Brandi Carlile and her group's cover is nothing short of superb. Wow!
One of my favorite EJ songs...and she is absolutely top knotch! Love how she bends notes with her voice - gives the song a different feel. Would love to see her live...
Andrew Neidich I’ve seen her 10 times and I can tell you first hand you will NOT be disappointed!! So so so good!! I’d go back and see her a million times!! She’s a frikkin Rock star!!!
This woman has such amazing vocals and passion in her music. She doesn't go through the motions and simply sings out of the building every time. I have been following Brandi for over 10 years now and she is absolutely amazing and inspiring.
She has amazing vocal skills and range. And people who write and sing&play an instrument Don't usually have to go through the motions like a young pop star singing something that lends no life experience. young people invest in an instrument. Singer-songwriter people are the smartest people in the bizz. And there's 3 in this band. And the brothers are the main songwriters. But they are what's called an happy accident.I don't prefer her covers. But Brandi Carlisle is an amazing human being period.I did reserch on her. Dug and dug. After I found out the story was written b4 she met the brothers. And I was really bothered by the fact that I had put her on a pedestal. In reality I learned thing's about her, that I had and had done as well.Shes a solid soul&That gets me out of bed when I don't feel like it. Because she over came the odds.
She reminds me of another very great lady of music, not because their vocals are similar though both had and have great range, but because of the depth of feeling and their complete and total love for music which makes borh past and the present performances great.. I love and admire Brandi Carlile's music as much as I ever did Janis Joplin's and that is saying a lot of folks!!
I have been an Elton John fan for literally 50+ years since he erupted - This cover is OUT F----ING STANDING! Elton gave Brandi his props in his autobio "Me", not just for her music but what she did for Joni Mitchell when Joni needed the help.
I generally hate cover versions, but for some reason RU-vid's algorithm made this pop up for me, and boy, am I glad it did! Holy cow, I didn't even know who Brandi Carlile was, and now I have a new artist to explore. I think the term "nailed it" was invented JUST for this! Perfect vocals, band on top of their game. Truly amazing:)
@@dublinjazz1, if you get a chance to see them live, GO! I travelled all over to see them live. I have a lot of videos on my channel from the shows that I attended. 😊✌️
Well, you just don't know what talent is, Ed. Real talent is being able to perform choreographed dance moves on stage while lip-syncing your previously auto-tuned vocals.
Oh Brandi, madly humble and in love with her craft. This band is incredible, the best live performance you'll ever see, and if you're like me, you'll return to be blessed by their talent over and over.
I caught her Austin City Limits show by accident a little while ago and they did this, one of my favourite Elton John songs, and I was completely blown away. The entire concert was amazing and I became a fan.
Every once in awhile a brilliant performance catches your attention on the web! There just isn’t that much by way of good music being made today.......boy this was a breath of fresh air! Bravo!
I'm just now hitting this video and amazing stunning performance. Dude! you hit the mark! Wow. Awesome energy. Including those strings. They truly captured the original and made their own. Very good performance.
A great musical performance enabled by a sound crew who were equally proficient. I was able to hear the subtleties of each instrument and Brandi’s vocals in exquisite detail. Bravo to all involved!,
Absolutely awesome! I grew up listening to Elton John (and still have ALL my Elton John albums), ALWAYS grooved on this song. Brandi & her band definitely do this song justice! Absolutely awesome version! This is actually what turned me onto listening to Brandi Carlile for the first time! Here we are in 2021, and I'm still groovin' on Brandi (and her band), and her music, and MOST DEFINITELY her version of Elton John & Bernie Taupin's Madman Across the Water!!!! Everyone, please stay safe!!!! PEACE & LOVE
I've seen Brandi perform this live a couple of times now, and it just keeps getting better and better. I can't think of one other person who can perform this song so incredibly well and turn around and sing Joni Mitchell too. This band and Brandi's vocals are incredible.
Amazing! I'm a long time Elton fan and had never heard of this cover. I'm now a new Brandi Carlile fan. Great vocals and such awesome energy from the band.
