Can’t agree more! I remember having an issues with BM when they first came out. I was a teenager back then. I think it’s arrogant to only sell one size for girls and creating body anxiety. Interestingly, I seem to be numbed by this now, because despite everyone has been talking about fashion inclusivity, sustainability and how bad fast fashion is to the planet, it hasn’t change that much since then. Tbh, I think the situation is even worst on all those three topics.

I highly recommend checking out the documentary The True Cost. It goes much more in depth into the unbelievable harm the fast fashion industry is causing to the environment and people. The amount of physical, psychological, and environmental damage caused by fast fashion is truly staggering. We NEED to raise more awareness about this issue!
@regisnyder
@regisnyder 2 месяца назад
The reason why this story is so repetitive (per a lot of comments posted) is because we don’t demand with our dollar for better quality, sustainable garments. The fashion industry as a whole is “fast” - even the top luxury brands move trendy items out. It’s a business built on capitalism, not sustainability.
@johnnyfive9815

Some of us do demand it and have stopped buying corporate brand clothing unless used. I'm actually surprised so many people still want this stuff when there are better options out there, easily ordered online. Corporate clothing brand quality across the board has plunged while prices have continued to climb.
@HannahKayW
@HannahKayW 5 часов назад
@@jhart1979 Even easier and more sustainable is thrifting. I haven't bought a new item in ages unless I have a specific need I can't find at the thrift shop. There's so many thrift stores, so much vintage clothes, and a lot of it is really cute and affordable. There shouldn't be a stigma against used clothing, and I think that if brands want people to buy new they need to up the quality and the longevity of items. I know a lot of people switching to only thrifting but it needs to be wider scale in order for the companies to realize they need to change to a sustainable path.

This is such a weird topic and tone for this discussion like...Brandy Melville is not the first to be size exclusive and push a body image "ideal" within their brand. They are not special for being part of fast fashion or for taking advantage of employees. Out of every exploitative brand I just feel like it's weird to focus on Brandy as some evil cult company when you have Shein, Temu, old Abercrombie, and hosts of other brands doing the same thing.

well it is fast fashion but at least some of their clothes are made in Italy 100% cotton can we say the same about shein, zara , abercrombie , HnM and other fast fashion brands '???

Despite being made in Italy, they still used unethical practices. A lot of the workers who worked in those factories were underpaid Chinese immigrants. Location doesn't mean quality.

@shetalkstorainbows3 2 месяца назад
@@heidikessler6832 I am Italian, as far as I know the Italian part of the Brandy production is made by the company Liberty Tec srl which is not a company known for exploiting workers also because in Italy there is something called CCNL which protects the rights of workers in the textile and establishes minimum working hours and wages and therefore if they were not respected they would have to close m. The part of Brandy production in China is different, the one that is obviously less regulated but because it is China and they obviously resort to it to reduce prices otherwise. I'm not justifying them I'm just saying that they are not the worst in fast fashion there is much worse in terms of quality and production also because those who produce them in Bangladesh etc are even worse than the Chinese ones

@@shetalkstorainbows3 I think they went over how it happened in the documentary. I totally agree with you though, I don't know much about the Italian laws since I'm american. They might have worked with another factory in the past that was shut down due the exploitation and work with the one you mentioned now.

This is just a bizarre failed hit piece. There are all types of stores that target specific demographics of people. Imagine the horror when these people realize the were surrounded by stores that target people by age and race. If this offends you got to a place that doesn't. You'll find Wall Mart rather welcoming.

The only big issue I see are the racist messaging between leadership. However, a business needs to make smart decisions. If skinny blondes sell their brand, then that's what sells their brand. Why should they have someone who is less marketable (statistically) model their clothing? Business is about making money, not about massaging people's feelings. And yes, exploitation of poorer nations is horrible...it's also the way of the world ever since the dawn of recorded history. More powerful nations subjugate and exploit less powerful ones. It's the same as in the animal kingdom where stronger creatures usually have bigger territories, better access to resources (food, roaming area, etc) than weaker ones. This is how the world works and trying to say it isn't is denying a fundamental, foundational part of human nature.
