I wanted to show you how I easily separate and dry my brass in one step. This is much easier, to me, than having to have multiple steps of separating, and then drying the brass...this does it all in one step and only takes another 10-15 minutes. Everything extra that I needed only cost a few dollars from the hardware store. You'll need a 4" diameter PVC pipe cut to fit in your tumbler, an end cap, and a screw on fitting for the other end.

You just added 5 extra steps to a 3 step process. Get a large, mesh strainer that fits in your sink. Dump the contents of the tumbler into the strainer. Wash the brass, while dumping out the pins. Brass goes onto cookie sheet, 150-200 degree oven for 30 minutes. Done.

I have found that if you use the media separator basket suspended in a bucket of water and agitate it by gently rocking it back and forth with an occasional roll over it will remove ALL pins and you will have well rinsed brass ready for drying and processing.

Good video, and necessity is the mother of invention. I do admire a man with the patience to drill that many holes. I also had a pin dilemma and gave up using them, didn't seem to make much difference in the finished product.

Great Video with good solution to getting those little pesky pins out of the brass. Thanks for sharing this information.

Nice job well thought out. I have the Frankford tumbler & it has a filtering screen to separate the pins from the brass works well except for .380s. But your idea does the job & thats great, thanks

Do yourself a favor buy a tumbler. I did and it works flawlessly. And the time saved is amazing.

Man, I got exhausted from just watching you go through all that tedium, not to mention the time and effort it took to drill all those holes. I think what makes matters worse is the majority of the guys showing the world the best thing in cleaning brass since Lemmie Shine, are trying to do a bazillion cases at once. I only fill my FA tumbler halfway with cases irrespective of the cartridge caliber. At most that usually amounts to a couple hundred or so cases; which is more than enough for me per load session. I then add the media, tumble, strain and rinse them in a five gallon bucket through a mesh paint strainer, empty the strainer into my media separator tumbler, a few turns later pick the brass out of the tumbler, repackage the pins, and move on with the drying and case processing. Nothing else required, no specially fabricated tool or apparatus necessary, the brass is reconditioned and it didn't take the better part of my Saturday morning.

You need some 6 in pvc. If your local home depot/lowe's doesn't have it, try you local water utility they may have a short piece they will give you.

That seems kind of laborious. I just ordered a Lyman tumbler and it came with two separators...one has holes small enough so it holds the brass, the next is basically a screen and the pins stay in that one and the water drains out. I think a screen is your best bet...almost like panning for gold...something like that.

I picked up a cheap food dehydrator from Amazon. It works great for drying cleaned brass.

im new to reloading.....but it appears this type of media is a pain in the butt to deal with. as i write this, ive got my 1st batch running right now with the pins.

why not use a door screen to catch the pins?

Why not just put the brass back in the tumbler with clean water and tumble it ?

Use an Isonic jewlery cleaner with dawn dish soap and Lemi shine, I think you will throw out your tumblers when you see the difference in time and effort IMHO

I have one too and it's pathetic compared to SS wet tumbling. Nothing cleans like SS media in a rock tumbler.

Get a proper media separator that comes in an enclosed case. Works like a hot damn.

7:35 This video would have been much better and more convincing had you emptied the cookie sheet prior to tumbling this batch, so we could see how many pins were separated from this batch of brass. Otherwise, very good idea and execution.

Poor design, time consuming, just buy the new Frankford separator comes with a outer box which concealed the separator inside so the pins will drop out without flying everywhere
