Otis was a very underrated leadoff hitter

Only to those that know nothing about baseball... besides, everything that's ever been done is either _"underrated"_ or _"criminally underrated"_ on RU-vid 🙄🙄

Terry Pendleton coming over to cool down Nixon just shows what type of leader he was.

Yes, Terry was a guy that was usually the most respected player on the field. Awesome teammate

Love the line across the picture! The irony of this is that Roger became the Braves pitching coach years later!

Could always, throughout my childhood, always count on Otis Nixon for a hit, usually right into no-man's land/left-center field... Then, stealin a shitload of bases....... baby.

I honestly believe Otis was 40 years old his rookie year.

I played against Otis and his brother Donnell way back in Dixie Youth baseball and Otis looked middle-aged even then 😂😂

This led Tom Glavine to “hit” Dale Murphy

Lol you can call that hitting dale Murphy probably the only time I saw a pitcher throw at some one with 3 straight change ups you could tell he did not want to hit him

You've got to remember....Terry Pendleton isn't a coach at this time--he's the 3rd baseman. That's leadership.

I remember being so upset when Nixon was suspended 2 n half months later for a failed drug test (cocaine) and missed the world series. If he would have been playing I'm certain the braves would have won, but then again maybe he wouldn't have been stealing so many bases if he wasn't jacked up on coke.
@wesleyantrim6648
@wesleyantrim6648 3 года назад
As close as that series was, I don’t think there’s much doubt that Otis would’ve been the difference maker for the Braves.

I stayed at Otis Nixon's "halfway house" for non violent offenders and boy I tell ya... He's got the right idea trying to help folks but man does he need help with his anger.

I was at the game in Atlanta when Nixon charged the mound. It was Dale Murphy night. This was retribution, obviously. So the Braves had to retalitate. Next half inning, first batter up...Dale Murphy. Tom Glavine threw four of the slowest pitches ever behind his back. If you have that clip, would you post it?
@labalt44

Glavine couldn't bring himself to do it. Not Murph.
@jonlate4581

Michael Amberson not exactly behind his back. He just lobbed four pitches that were very intentionally inside. There's a great clip of Murphy explaining the whole thing at a youth baseball camp.

Blake Hibberts I read somewhere that Murph called Glavine to yell at him for not hitting him

Hey, I was at that game as well. Wally Richey had his rib caged opened up when Nixon came running out and kicked him with his cleats. Funny how many forget that part.

Very smart! Intentionally hit one of the fastest base runners in the league, so he can steal more bases off you!
@danger170388

JJPTV this all started because Nixon was stealing bases when the Braves were winning big in order to pad his stats

It was 15 days ago when Otis Nixon charged Wally Ritchie to take a decision in Atlanta on June 4, 1991 before I started the 3-year Academic Run in both schools beginning with my sophomore season at East St. John also my pep rally began in 1991 after my Freshman Special Education Year and became an All-Purpose Student at ESJHS and WSJHS.
