This was match that made me support Italy for the last 27 years. I was 10 at the time and felt sorry for R.Baggio and Italians. And I just thought...if Italy would have won then, they would be considered the strongest team in the world with 5 WC wins and Brazil and Germany with 4 wins. Damn! Sometimes such small margins can change everything!
My first world cup. I remember how i was jumping after the Baggio shot. My friend, who supported Italy, doesn't talked to me for a week after the match.
Without Baggio Italy didn't make it past the round of 16 if they even made if out of groups , he took his team to the final. Even if he scored the Brazil player would then have to miss, it was already over before his kick.
You nor anyone can predict if the 5th Brazilian penslty shooter would have made or missed his penalty. How presumptious and idiotic of you to assume an outcone that did not happen.
@@biagioborriello4200 Your facts are wrong. Italians really did NOT like Arrigo Sacchi the CT (coach/manager) nor did we really like the 1994 TEAM. However, over time Italians began to appreciate Baggio's heroics by literally CARRYING the team to the 1994 World Cup final. Now, Baggio is adored and beloved.
I remember running around my house screaming at the top of my lungs "We are the champions!" after Baggio's penalty. My neighbours looked at me and just smiled. Given the fact that my house was the only one in the street who backed Brazil to win, I guess they understood.
Even if Baggio scores that, Brazil can still win it with their 5th shot. It's disappointing, but the result most likely would have been the same. We will never know.
@@dongmingzhu666 we don't blame him. Actually we love him even more when we recall that penalty, because italians (and I think the rest of the world) always perceived Baggio as an unlucky incredibly talented artist. That penalty bring him into our loving memories the same as he would have scored and win the championship for us.
@@zifnow Nice! In my opinion blaiming a player for missing a penalty is stupid, especially in a world cup final, when you can't fully control your emotions and calm yourself. It is very hard to focus in that moment.
@@mickeyguide3112 Lots of people claimed that Zidane aimed for the bar in the 2006 final lol. So I guess lots of people also believe Romario went for the pole
@@bojandolinar1535 fanboyism at it's best. Funny though Baggio made exactly same kind of penalty against Nigeria in the same cup and said they were lucky... so go figure. But if Romario or Zidane said they were aiming at the pole or bar it's gotta be so right 😂. Problem is that statement should come before the penalty shot not after lol
@@mickeyguide3112it’s all luck.. but this one worked out perfectly. Yes hitting the ball 1mm to the side he would have missed (post and out). So lucky. It’s all lucky, but he pushed it to the limit of the luck. It curved away in a way that must have been frightening.
No one remembers Baresi putting it over the bar everyone remembers Baggio dude had 5 goals in that tourney. Hes still Italys #1 world cup scorer of all time. What most is he was a career 85% in penalties.
After the Massaro saved penalty, I knew Brazil would win the Cup. We really needed our 1st penalty shooter to have been a midfielder or foward and to have scored.
@@callumhughes6448 I was talking about this match,in fact I said was. And what does England do with all of this? Italy and Brazil are the best team in history, alongside Germany. England can cry in a dark corner.
@@anthonyfoco6396 now you're resorting to insults meaning you ain't got an argument my friend. And England did beat Germany 2-0 in a very convincing victory in the Euro. And in the 1990 World Cup 1996 euro Germany won on penalties. 2010 Germany won in no small part to very bad decision by the referee. And since Germany's wining the World Cup in 2014. Germany has not set the world on fire. Losing to Mexico and South Korea in the 2018 and finishing dead bottom of the group the 2018. And Germany just barely got through their group in the euro.
@@callumhughes6448Bro why are we talking about England at all? Weren't we talking about Italy and Brazil in the 1994 world cup final or what? If you shift the argument like that then you have no arguments as well.
I remember seeing this live with all my uncle's and cousins. We were so pissed. I've never seen grown men cry the way my uncle's did lol. It's ok, we just secured the Eurocup. All is well.
I remember this too like yesterday but hey Michel Platini made almost an identical miss to Baggio's on World Cup 86' in Mexico on semi's. I was 10 yrs old when I saw that.
@@mickeyguide3112 I am not as old as u guys but I've seen CR7 miss a penalty vs Chelsea in 2008 UCL and I've seen Messi miss penalty in copa america final against Chile... but I came here cuz when I was young, my dad used to always tell me about this world cup that the star players were Romario and Baggio. Romario had a duo with Bebeto. He told me about Baggio's miss and I watched a documentary of this world cup 10 years ago (I was born in 2001, my baptism was on the day Brazil won 2-0 against Germany in 2002 world cup. I graduated pre-school in 2006 on the day Italy beat France in final) the 1st world cup I watched was 2010 world cup in south Africa. I was Brazil fan at that time and still am. They play one of the most beautiful football styles. However, Brazil in last few years has lost its magical touch.
baggio was not 100%, and brazil really deserved this title, literally the Brazilian team almost did not qualify for the 94 cup and they were 24 years without winning ANYTHING
@@callumhughes6448 The lucky ones were Brazil my man. Couldn't even score against tired,injured,half-assed Italy. This title is so overrated;Italy should've won it but that day luck wasn't on their side.
@@callumhughes6448 I know that. I saw it as a child. It SHOULD have been played at night and things would have been different. They played at +40 celcius degrees for 120 minutes. Devastating.
@@tomascastillo4676 I do agree with you it was brutal but tennis players also play in that kind of brutal heat but football teams have to play when FIFA tells them to play
Mannnnnn TILL this day even though i KNOW the out come...i still get nervous watching it. After allll these decades. What a botch LOL. And what a WIN. And btw i just farted.
Romário’s penalty here is one of the best of all time I feel. The pressure must have been huge.. and he just clips it in off the post so it’s un-saveable. If he hits the ball one millimetre to the side he hits the post and misses. Such small margins!
Yes it is, like I said before it was lucky and it was that. But it doesn't take anything away from Romario's shot. Only if it would have been the final and decisive shot of the tournament it would have been truly epic. Instead we got Baggio's epic miss. Nevertheless epic and drama filled for decades ⚽
Dai dai forza ❤
I remember there was a rumour that Baggio’s Buddhist mentor told him before the first match that he’d have a great tournament that would end in disappointment… can’t help but feel that may have been on his mind at the end there…
it's obvious, the runners up, in this appointment, found themselves in the laed after the first ball been lost by both tiers. it's clear, the world had neglected the importance of the 4th ball being saved. Also, the runners up keeper could easily save no.4' penalty !!
@@CatyeBia That it was over before Baggio took his penalty shot, he got his team that far, the media hammered him over missing that goal instead of glorifying how far he and his team got with his bad leg, to keep brazil to 0-0 in overtime when your leg injury played up in the semi final was amazing team effort .
@@mariusevander2214 Brazil ripped out Italy's heart because thats 2x now that the brazilians beat em in the world cup final. Unfortunately thats why Baggio got shitted on.
